Former Albion boss leaves Celtic
Thursday 25th March 2010, 12:00PM GMT.
Celtic have parted company with former Albion manager Tony Mowbray after just nine months in charge.
The Scottish Premier League club confirmed his departure this afternoon, along with his coaching team of Mark Venus and Peter Grant, in the wake of yesterday’s shock 4-0 defeat at St Mirren.
Mowbray left the Hawthorns with his staff last June to take the job at his former club, where he spent four years as a player, bringing to an end a memorable two-and-a-half year reign.
The now 46-year-old oversaw the play-off final defeat to Derby County in 2007, the Championship title and FA Cup semi-final run a year later along with relegation from the Premier League last season.
Do you think Mowbray has got his just desserts?

what comes around goes around. Bye Bye Mowbray

It seemed he’d signed his death wish after game by questioning his own idealisms, beliefs and principles, suggesting Rangers’ ‘negative’ football was a more effective way of gaining success.
I don’t wish ill on TM, he seemed a thoroughly decent bloke. However I couldn’t help feel more than disappointed with the lack of acknowledgement he gave to the Albion supporters who had stood by him, when he walked out the door.
The strength of feeling towards him, in some way I believe, has contributed to the apathy many supporters have shown this season to RDM and his team, when in many ways, some of this season’s efforts have probably been more deserving of our support and praise.

Mowbray did a good job at the albion, but i always thought he was tactically weak at setting his defenders up to defend considering he was a defender himself. This as now shown to be his downfall at Celtic too. I was gutted at the time he quit after he came out with that speech to his players and then deserting us himself. So yes i will have a little smile on my face tonight but good luck Mowbray you will not be out of work for long.

I have just herd the news as a Albion Surporter Tony Mowbrey sacked it just proves you could see us going no where in the premiership under his guidance. However he had the backroom staff but you would question his buys over the time he has been in charge.
its a shame he could have done with more time to stamp his mark at Celtic however you have a situation like Chelsea and Man Untd they expect immediate sucess. This is Albions fortune as Jermery Pace received financial compensation. we can only wish him all the best to find another job but i am sure he will not find it easy although he try’s to play attractive football.

So the grass isn’t always greener!!!!
You should have stayed where you were?
We stood by you despite relegation as we admired and shared your believe in good attacking football.
You stabbed us in the back to join a two team mickey mouse league and I for one have no sympathy for you and the rest of your turncoats.
Cmon you baggies.

Serves him right.

I believe that overall Mowbray did a good job for us and spoilt it for many with his departure after his rallying “loyalty” statement.
His biggest failing in my opinion was his stubborn persistence with all out attack and his lack of tactical know how.
He has obviously been found out in a bigger job with greater expectation and has paid the price.
Shame but that is football nowadays.
Hopefully he will learn his lesson about flexible tactics and integrity.
Hope he is back in management soon as his sides are good to watch.

Good old Tony he was good for us when he was at the Baggies but what got on my nerves with him he played 1 way and didnt have a plan B.To top it off he came out with a speech to the players to stay and then he jumped ship. Thanks to Tony ive won £20.00 at the bookies i put a bet he wouldnt last a season at Celtic his good for lower league footie.Well good luck Tony who is going to have you now that you cant make it in the easiest league going in europe cos we dont want you back.

Bottom of a 2-team league. Although Mowbray’s principles are laudable he is too pig-headed to admit when they’re not working. His signings were Championship quality (bar Robbie Keane). Perhaps he should try the Dutch league – and maybe make Luke Moore his first signing.

“got his just deserts” you’d better believe it.This man left Albion after preaching to the player’s and asking them to show some loyalty to WBA when we were relegated. What did he do,sod off at the first oportunity. He was a total enigma, professed open expansive football, which sometimes was a pleasure to watch. At other times when the system needed to change,it didn’t.Result,relegation.If he had heeded the warnings,he might just have kept us up.But he didn’t.So we rewrite Albions history with another manager,RDM.We will see what happens next season IF we get promotion.Hopefully he won’t make the same mistakes as his predecessor.

Achieved Albions first league win since 1920 but should have been promoted with the best squad in the Division the year before.Overall tactically naive resulting in relegation.Transfer dealings reflected tactics – surplus of midfield few defenders but some excellent buys Dorrans etc. Amazing dealing by Jeremy Pearce to obtain £2m compensation for Mowbrays services from Celtic following Albions relegation.

if you do get to read this Tony or if someone can pass this message on? Loyalty is a big word & in the words of my mother “if you spit in the sky it falls back in your face!”

Doesnt deserve one ounce of sympathy from us albion fans, we stuck by him when we we’re relegated, when he jumped ship, did he have one word of thanks for us sticking by him.
Yeah !!! we all know the answer to that one

I seem to remember Albion were already scoring plenty of goals when Mowbray took over, what was needed was to sought out the defence.Despite him being a centre half in his playing days,he couldn’t get it right at the back.He had this dream about being like Arsenal, instead he would have ended up shaping us like Aldershot.Still,he could come back to the midlands if Walsall ever need a new Manager.

Thanks for the 2 million quid celtic, its been well spent aye boing boing

I was also sad when he left but how many of us
would have passed up the chance also a revered
player there but have no sympathy for him his
severance payoff will be useful his big problem there would have been lack of funds to improve on what he inherited. Hopefully RDM
will take us up and keep us there next time.
After all we only lost out to Hull and if only
TM had used GD and Mulumbu we probably would
have stayed up What do our fans think about
buying Reid and Watson we MUST feep Tamas!!
I say again leave JT out at Reading it could
be nasty I doubt there will be 22 at final
whistle.

2 million for 9 months. Well done again Mr Peace, superb business.
I have no doubt Tony will be back at an English club in the summer.

Mowbray had a style that almost put entertainment before results – and we fans brought into this in a big way – the 2 seasons he has with us in the CCC were often compared to the 78/79 team in terms of football style. We enjoyed great matches with great results – particularly against the wolves.
He preached integrity and decency and values – and demanded these from his players…. and thats what made his decision to jump ship to celtic so hard to swallow.
Do I wish him ill…..? NO – he still gave us those great seasons.
Have i got a wry smile today ?….. maybe just a little.

Have no sympathy Tony. As a life long fan have seen many managers given a chance by the Albion, supported to the hilt and then leave to where the grass is Greener. Ossie, Big Ron, John Giles now Mowbray. Non of you ever produced what was the start of something big, non of you ever achieved the loyal support given by baggie fans. Sit back Tony, you will get another job but read all about us with envy what could have been as Robbie takes us to the promised land and beyond. loyalty is “ALBION til I DIE”.

Not sure many albion fans will be able to find any sympathy for him,he stabbed us in the back big time him and his principles, proberly end up at a small club like wolves.aye boing boing

Come to the Banks’s, you don’t need a wage with your pay off and you can lead us to glory!
Albion were mad to get rid, but I guess they got paid well for your Scottish transfer.
There’s no money for players so you can use your skills freely……..!
