Early Bird sales show slight decline

Wolves today announced season ticket sales of 14,226 from their Early Bird scheme as sales fell three per cent on last year.

The slight dip comes despite a price freeze for renewing online, which accounted for almost 90 per cent of renewals.

There are still 240 disabled supporters yet to be processed, leaving a final figure of around 14,500, as opposed to 14,680 last March.

Seventy-one per cent of Wolves’ 20,400 season ticket holders are signed up for next season, and the club were pleased at the response from fans to the scheme, which ran for a ninth successive year.

“We’re delighted so many fans have taken advantage of what we believe is an excellent offer to renew their season tickets,” said chief executive Jez Moxey.

“We’re all hopeful we’ll retain our Premier League status and that would mean those fans who have renewed their season tickets will again enjoy top flight football at Championship prices.

“The loyalty of our supporters, both home and away, has been excellent.”

Villa’s 2-1 win at Wigan last night did Wolves a favour, but Moxey is still urging the fans their support will be vital in the run-in.

“There is more work to do to secure our Premier League status, and Mick and the players will need all that passionate support every step of the way,” he said.

“But yet another impressive response to the Early Bird scheme has again shown how Wolves supporters are in it for the long haul.”

Moxey was also delighted with the online initiative, the first time the club has offered fans a reduction to renew that way.

“We’re always looking to both modernise and improve our practices, and we’ll continue to monitor all feedback, positive or otherwise,” he said.

Supporters can collect their books by calling the ticket office on 0871 222 1877 or email ticketoffice@wolves.co.uk

Others will receive their season tickets by registered post in mid-July.

Meanwhile season ticket holders who didn’t renew under the Early Bird scheme but wish to renew at a later date will have to pay summer prices to be announced after the season has finished.

* Wolves have sold out of their allocation of 2,864 for their first trip to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on Saturday, April 3.

Somewhat surprising that the early-birds have been snapped up so readily considering all the anti-talk about them, still it shows Wolves supporters, the diehards that is, are prepared to pay although not knowing what league we will be in next season.

I know i will get lots of stick for what im going to say, but ive supported Wolves for 48yrs now so yes ive bought my seaon ticket at the ‘Early Bird’ price.yes/no as i saved a few pounds, but mainly because for the obvious reason im a ‘Wolves Supporter’ have been all these years and will be untill i die, even tho there will come a time i cant attend due to illness/age reasons but i will always support them no matter what league they are in. True supporters dont care what league there team are in. Its not about winning the PL or Championship, Div 1.2 its about watching the team you support, whether is ManUtd, Wolves, or Aldershot. Yes i get angry at times its only natural because its about the love/passion inside of you, when things are going good yes your on a high, life is great, then the flip side is when the going is tough aand if your a ‘TRUE’ supporter which i like to think i am if we lose it affects my whole weekend/week ahead as it makes me a Miserable B*****D but i would/could ‘NEVER’support any other team. My dad took my two-brothers one after the other then when i was 8yrs old he took me with them, and ive never stopped going since even when we only had the South Bank to stand in. UTW FOREVER.

personally,. I havent renewed. Not because I’m worried that we might go down. No, I didn’t renew because I didn’t want to endorse the management of Mad Mick.

If he goes, I’ll renew, if not, then I wont!

There is no doubt that – early bird apart – our ticket prices are a disgrace! I have not renewed as I cannot afford to renew at this time of year, especially in that I am going to South Africa.
I trust that with Wolves fans once again backing the club, a lot more investment will be going on players. No skimping on wages (Scott Dann) and transfer fees please (Roger Johnson).
I am confident that we will stay up but Morgan and Moxey must show a lot more clout!

I have renewed my season ticket in the Steve Bull at a cost of £435 inc add-min charges but by using my Wolves credit card with 6 months intrest free it works out at £72.50 per month.Which is app £2.58 per day, just about the same as a pint & bag of nuts ?? As i would go no mater which league we are in i think its good value. But i feel pretty confident that i will be watching Premership football next season But while we are talking about being ripped of just look at the cost of beer at the ground Now thats been ripped off??

I’m furious how MM inherited a relegation-threatened shamble, built a side of young, exciting, players, won the Championship with 90 points playing attacking football and competed well in the Prem (far better than last time) to give us a really good chance of staying up without putting the club in financial trouble..

Sack him now – I’ve had enough!!

4 – yes the mad man who got us promoted for only the 2nd time in 26 years (and managed it with two other teams to boot). The mad man who stands to keep us in the top flight for 2 seasons in a row for the first time in nigh on 30 years.

All I can say is goodbye and good riddance, you won’t be missed.

richwolf64: What a totally pointless stance for both you and the club.

If you’ve got such a big problem with us being promoted a year ahead of Morgan’s schedule, and subsequently having a realistic opportunity to stay up (irrelevant of who’s in charge by the way), then you should not support Wolves at all.

It’s about the club, not the current manager, the club is the most important thing, not your angst about who is in charge at the time.

When we stay up this season I have no doubt there’ll be someone absolutely chuffed to have snapped up your vacant seat with Man Utd Chelsea, and the possibilty of four local derbys on the cards next season.

Why do people who come on here without rose tinted glasses about our club get slagged off?

Yes MM got us promoted, yes we may even survive this season (still some debate about that yet) but at the same time this manager has messed up in so many other ways.

He spent the best part of £3m (including add onns) on a striker that scored 31 goals in 49 games for Rapid Vienna only to give him a couple of games! Add that to his crazy ideas of playing players all over the park apart from their specialised position and countless other tactical gaffs!

Im with richwolf, i cant speak for him but im guessing his feelings are of those of mine, we love our club dearly i have attended every home n away game for atleast the last 3 seasons and held a season ticket for all home games for god knows how long but how else can we voice our disapproval of this clown (mick) if its not with our feet? The bloke is complete nuts and is way over his head in this division, we got to this league with a large slice of luck as alot of games we were being outplayed and sneaking wins, this yr his decisions stagger me! Are you telling me that a sain man starts a game playin 4-5-1 with 1 striker then goes 2 nil up then converts to a 4-4-2 with 3 actual strikers on and almost cost us a game? ?

I can think of no other way to voice my opinion other than not to renew!! I cant believe some of the numpties think he is anywhere near good enough to lead us! Around 7 signings he has made (for the prem) Since promotion then uses his championship side, so nxt yr were in for the same old rubbish cos would you give him anymore money if u were morgan??

One more point, yes the early bird is the cheaper option and yes you do save money but its not actually a great deal is it?? Because the early bird is the price we shud b paying in first place, the only reason it seems such a fabulous deal to all the numpties is because the end of season price is such a complete rip off! And if part of that money goes towards forking out 3mill for mierhoffer then there is another reason im happy not to renew! 3mill lol you couldnt write it! Laughable!

I gave up my season ticket (i had it for 23 years) due to finacial reasons in the 07/08 season, and i was never asked the reason why i was not renewing, just letters saying “this is your last chance to save your seat” not “Dear supporter you have backed this club for 23 years, what is your reason for not renewing?”
I know i was only a number but the club do not use the data they have to help them with any kind of customer service! and they have never rewarded any one with loyalty to OUR club. I think we will stay up and i really hope so, but things have got to change in the club from top to bottom.Look after your most loyal supporters, they are your life blood! Get them to bring the future fans/supporters ” there children” and then there childrens children. With out them Our ground will become empty no matter what division we are in!!! Just think of all that lovely interest we will earn off our early bird tickets if everyone stumps up now. Mick will be able to buy more quality players for next season ready to give our rivals a run for their money. Just hope Mr Moxey comes up with a better offer than a pie & a pint for our seats though when we play them at home next time.

We have renewed our season tickets at senior rates. As a Wulfrunian I am keen to continue my link with the club (begun in 1951) as long as possible. Those we sit with have renewed and we enjoy their company. Our seat positions are excellent – if we give them up I doubt we would be lucky enough to get any as good in the future. The atmosphere is great. I know it is going to come to an end for us probably sooner rather than later. The price of petrol frightens us for our 300 miles round trip – that adds to the bill. I have glaucoma and may have to give up driving in the next year or two – but we will enjoy it while we can, numpties or not. Proud to be a Wolves supporter – and always will be, whatever the league and whoever the manager.

I have renewed ,but it is clear that there has been a bit of a backlash with a number of people perhaps feeling let down by the relatively poor transfer dealings. The reduction is quite significant given there are a lot more existing season ticket holders who were eligible to take up the offer this year compared to last year, and yet they managed to sell about 200 less season tickets overall.

This is no surprise at all, in fact I’m amazed it’s not worse. There is a world wide recession on, jobs are scarce then add to that the fact that we have had a very poor season so far and are saddled with a manager that does not inspire confidence then low early bird sales are guaranteed. Simple.

Has any manager split the Wolves fans as much as MM has? As some point out He took over a struggling Championship club with no players and certainties for relegation and then, after spending little or no money, he gets them promoted. Now he’s in danger of keeping them in the Premiership.
Then on the other side of the coin he has spent £12 million on players who cant get a game,as the Hoff pointed out Keough comes back from injury and walks straight back into the team.
In his last spell in charge of ROI his constant playing of favourites irrespective of form led to his downfall,Will that eventually happen at Wolves.
Should we remain in the premiership then in my opinion unless MM has a remarkable shift in policy and buys prem quality players to fill the weak links (Ward is not a LB) and play players in their correct position then another season of struggle will be on the cards.

MM has done a solid job at Wolves. He has steadily improved the side, taken the knocks and kept to his plan. Every time I look back six months I see a weaker team than the one we have now. Did anyone really expect us to do better than fight for survival in our first season back in the prem? As for players out of position and transfer fees that do not bear fruit, every club has that. Some people are never satisfied. Maybe they should get a life (with another club!). I can accept debate and comments about the team but this mindless “Mick Out” view is getting to be annoying. Unless God becomes available to manage the team I doubt the MM knockers will ever be satisfied.

However when all is said and done I wont buy your comments:-
As for players out of position and transfer fees that do not bear fruit, every club has that.
Although every manager will make mistakes in the transfer market MMs record in the prem leaves a lot to be desired, and as for the continuous playing of players out of position(to ensure his favourites get a game)How many other top flight managers do this?.Yes we are not in the relegation zone but no we are not safe yet.
Hopefully come the end of the season we will still be a premiership side and the debate will still rage on as to the best way forward.
