Furious Deeney blasts team-mates
Monday 15th March 2010, 11:27AM GMT.
Furious Troy Deeney today ripped into his underperforming team-mates branding them “pathetic” and claimed some don’t deserve to earn new deals.
The hitman labelled Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient “embarrassing” in a tirade which is sure to raise eyebrows at the Banks’s Stadium.
Deeney’s honest assessment comes with the Saddlers marooned in 13th and the season set for a premature end and the striker believes the players must take the blame.
“Some people are just happy to let each game roll by, keep picking up their money and to be honest it’s pathetic,” fumed Deeney.
“You should be playing for your shirts week in, week out from August but obviously people have got into a comfort zone and, as for contracts, some will be very lucky.
“If you watched that then you will see who’s doing what and who came in and wringed their shirt out afterwards because of the sweat, there weren’t many.
“I’ve left my son to come and work to earn money. I can’t do my job if people aren’t playing me in. If I’m not doing my job properly then I’ll end up on the football scrapheap.
“I want to be going on to bigger and better things but unfortunately some people aren’t doing enough.”
The 21-year-old issued an apology to the 178 travelling supporters who witnessed the Brisbane Road no show and questioned the Saddlers’ quality.
“If I had enough money I’d pay for every supporter who came today to have their money back, but I don’t earn enough,” said the 11-goal top scorer.
“I feel angrier than after Southampton (a 5-1 defeat). At Southampton there were excuses. They’ve got a bigger budget and better players, they’re just better.
“No disrespect to Leyton Orient they are an average team who made us look even worse so if we get battered, how good are we? It was embarrassing.”
And Deeney revealed the Saddlers held a dressing room inquest immediately after the game.
“There were a few words,” he said.
“It has to be said. It should have been said after Southampton but, as always, we play crap one week and then do well the next week. The cracks get papered over and nobody says anything.”

Well said Troy. Unfortunately i went to the game on Saturday and it was shocking. We did absolutely nothing. Very poor substitutions, no imagination from the manager. Smith needs to come back in aswell as probably byfield and ince. I will not be going again this season after wasting a lot of money to get there on saturday. Julian Gray was just a joke!

Well said Troy!
At Walsall we are familiar with the usual cover up stories, its about time someone within the club came out and spoke openly about the current set up and regime.
Its a joke from top to bottom.

Troy should be sacked for showing such passion and ambition – the job description at Walsall is to be middle of the road well run club. The next statement from the club will be to sell Trosy as he does not fit this model.
Shocking season, shocking performance at least he has the courage to say what he thinks…. although he did miss a sitter !

He’s on his way then!

Good for you Troy. I think there are many people around the country, even the world, who feel like their workplace colleagues are letting them down but they just keep plodding away in order to keep the peace. It’s about time someone stood up for their situation and tried to encourage something to be done about it.
I just hope it doesn’t mean you end up being let go, like it would at most other companies who are afraid of people that rock the boat. If the regime at Walsall have any sense they’ll take this positively and see it as a wake-up call they can’t ignore.
Brentford fan signing off in peace – and if it turns out that Walsall don’t want you, you’re welcome down Griffin Park!

Thank God that someone behind the scenes has the guts to stand up and be counted! As a Saddlers supporter who cares about the way MY club is being allowed to become the laughing stock of the Football League,it needs something like this to shake everyone at the club out of their lethargy. It seems pretty clear to me that Bescot Stadium is full of people who lack interest in the club, and who couldn’t care less what happens to it in the future.
I wander if there’s anyone else brave enough like Troy to speak out.I doubt it!

E & S can you please open up a forum on the story about Hutchings admitting we can’t make the play offs, I think us fans could have a field day.
Does this guy live on cloud 9?

Well said Troy !
“Our” club is an absolute flippin shambles !!
I don’t have an axe to grind with anyone at Walsall but for gods sake this is one of the worst seasons I can remember (been going since ’66), no guts.. no glory.. no heart.
And YES I will bloody well moan if I want to !!!!
..and you want £300 for next season !!
BITE ME !

I agree with what troy says but has very1 missed the point to this article. He is annoyed that he isnt been given the chance to move on to better things. Also by stating his unhappiness paves the way for a transfer in the summer.

Selection, selection, selection!
I am sorry but to have our number 2 goalie, number 2 right back and number 2 left back in the starting 11 when we have Ince, Hughes & Smith on bench with Vincent playing out of position is just mind blowingly ridiculous!
The rest of the team is balanced but weak. Jones just back and can’t yet be match fit, Taundry & O’Keefe midfield is light (for all Mattis’s faults, we are missing him) and Gray so far has been a one game wonder for me!
Why do we always get to this stage of the season and our manager starts making crazy selection decisions? Is it something in the contracts like apearance bonuses?
I am not surprised Troy has come out and said this. I would be happy with any 2 from 3 of our strikers, but unless they get the service from the midfield, they aint gonna score!
The team seems disjointed at the moment, no one is going back to help out and make up that extra man, then storming into the area whilst the rest of the team carry the ball forward………..I could rant on!
Mid Table? We are lucky to be there. I think there is much in Mr Deeney has said….players only playing when they think someone is watching (shop window and all that!)…….I am afraid that is what football has become in the lower leagues.
Shame but a fact of life!

What do you expect, when we sign a player who was with a club relegated from the football league, a second player who was with a club who just avoided being relegated from the football league and a third player who had not sampled first team football. The club captain and probably the best centre half at the club cannot get a game, and players playing out of position to cover – you get what we are experiencing at the moment a mediocre team who will languish in the lower reaches of league 1, It’s a pity Paul Jewel is out of work, as Hutchings would surely pack his bag and rejoin him as his No 2 !!

troy is spot on… walsall supporters are being short changed by the players and the club…. we are given hope that the club are moving in the right direction when winning the division 2 championship but then we hit the glass ceiling in division 1 that the clubs regime are simply not ambitious enough to break through…. we are left with a club thats losing its support, that puts in embarrasing performances and generally lacks quality…. we stand by and watch the rest of the west midlands clubs enjoying an epoch season with gates we can only envy and budgets beyond our wildest dreams. we are left as the poor relations… a position we are not unused to, but in the past we had some pride and we got effort/performance and a passing game under managers like alan buckley that kept us, the fans with hope and dogged determination to follow the club against the odds….. the trouble is that now the odds really are very much against us.

Its about time something was said, i go every game home and away i love following the mighty saddlers, but at times when they dont perform to their best of ability i sometimes wonder why i bother. I will never stop supporting the saddlers they are my team, it would be nice to get to see more than 1 decent game a month. Fair enough we cant win every game and ive got to admit we do tend to play better away from home on many occassions, if a team gives their all then its understandable that we cant win them am all. I not a bonser fan myself i think he just cares about his own back pocket to be honest and in my oppinion until he is gone theres no hope of getting any higher up in the leagues, but whos going to buy half the ground? Hutchings for me isnt the right man for the job he either doesnt use any subs at all or he uses all 3 and takes off our best players. Fair play deeny right behind you!
