Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Tamas touted as a Villa target

Villa are keeping watch on in-form Albion defender Gabriel Tamas – according to his agent in Romania.
The Baggies’ Premier League neighbours are reportedly eyeing the 26-year-old as they weigh up their summer transfer options.
Tamas has recovered from his shaky Albion debut in the home defeat to Nottingham Forest to produce a string of solid performances.
Now agent Florin Manea has claimed the Romanian international’s displays have attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, including Villa.
Albion cannot be beaten to his signature, as they have secured an option to make his loan from Auxerre into a permanent deal for £800,000.
And Manea claims his client has agreed in principle to a three-year contract at the Hawthorns worth up to £1million per season in the Premier League and £500,000 per season in the Championship.
But, should boss Roberto Di Matteo choose to take up the option, other clubs would then be free to make offers to Albion for the player.
Tamas has spoken of his desire to stay in England having settled well with the Baggies and the head coach appears likely to exercise the option in the deal, which is currently a season-long loan from French club Auxerre.
The centre-half has made 13 appearances for the club since arriving at the start of January and impressed again against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, as the Baggies won 1-0 to return to the Championship’s top two.
Villa’s squad is currently well-stocked at centre-back, with Richard Dunne and James Collins established as manager Martin O’Neill’s first-choice pairing.
Carlos Cuellar is also an option, although more often deployed at right-back, while former Hawthorns captain Curtis Davies is also waiting in the wings.
But question marks hang over Davies’ long-term future at Villa Park, with the 25-year-old struggling to force his way back into the team after a shoulder injury.
Having not figured in a Premier League game since surgery before Christmas, any summer exit for the ex-Luton man could lead to O’Neill delving into the transfer market for reinforcements.

I would hate to see Tamas sold, but either way it’s a win-win for Albion as you may be sure he won’t go cheaply. Our scouts are doing a great job overall finding so mant ‘untouchables’ that can perform. It would be difficult to have a bonus scheme for them though…just think Valero, £4.7M…
Who would pay whom?
All this insists on promotion of course, then we get to keep our best. If we can get up, stay up along with The Wulfies and Blues, then in the not too distant future there may well be a levelling out and we could become a force again in the upper echelons. I can dream can’t I?

Agent up to mischief then……bit late now, sign him up!!

Sounds like you are fishing—-whatever happens we will sign him so Villa won’t want to give us the 4-5 mill our JP would ask. Have you got nought better to report?

The photo at the top of this story looks like John Kaye. Who remembers him ? Talbot and Kaye , takes me back a bit. Great pair of centre halves though. On a par with Wile and Robertson maybe?

smethwick,
I remember John Kaye,he was bought as a centre forward and converted to wing half[Got you youngsters conflumoxed now haven't I]same time as
we accquired Jeff”The KING”ASTLE. Always thought of him on the lines of Dave McKaye the Spurs half back.As I’ve said before Ollson and Tamas are going to make a formidable central defensive pair.

Smethwick and JTH.
Johnny Kaye was on something on Sky Sport recently, on a programme that’s called ‘The Golden Years’ I think. Graham Lovett and Graham Williams were also on and all three looked really well.
I remember John Kaye as a hard man in the acceptable sense of the word, tough but not dirty like Tommy Smith Ron Harris and some other so called hard men who were also hatchet men. He just seemed indestructable (some of the modern day ninnies would faint at the sight of him.)
As well as the King, Jimmy Hagan also brought in Dougie Fraser, Terry Simpson and Ray Crawford around the same time all for next to nothing. Together with our youth production line these were the players that won us the Cup in 68.
I must admit that the present scouting system is running Jimmy Hagan close in bringing in bargains.

Spot on smethwick baggie, I do and what a good player he was

Could we swap him for Curtis Davies?
On the subject of Borja Valero, I’ve read a couple of articles saying how he is having an excellent season in Spain. Isn’t he on a season-long loan? I wonder if he could come back when we get promoted – or whether he’s just the wrong sort of player for England?

Its a done deal he is Albion bound.

If I remember rightly, John Kaye actually started as a centre-forward for us. Saying that, I don´t see any resemblence of him in the photo. However, the other guy could be mistaken for Frank Bruno.

Is that cuz he`s got gloves on aye boing boing

I agree with some of the comments – typical agent trying to inflate the value of his client. He’s good enough at this level for us but not sure how he would cope against the likes of Drogba, Rooney and Torres on a weekly basis…

I think its nice for Villa to look at our players, it shows we have class. Better idea why don’t they take Moore back, in exchange for Davis, now that would be somethink. ha ha

We need both TAMAS AND OLSSON for
the Prem next season !!!!!!!!
