Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Doyle pledges future to Wolves
Thursday 11th March 2010, 2:00PM GMT.
Wolves striker Kevin Doyle has pledged his future to the club and has been promised signings will be coming into Molineux if they stay in the Premier League.
Boss Mick McCarthy believes the club’s £6.5million record signing will be sold if Wolves are relegated from the Premier League.
But Doyle has no plans to leave and has been told the squad will be strengthened in the summer – news which will dash the hopes of Villa, Everton and Sunderland among others.
He said: “As far as I understand, I will be here – there’s absolutely no reason why not. The manager has said to me and a good few of us that if we stay up this season, there will be a lot of strengthening and adding to the squad in the summer and that can only be a bonus.
“That’s what all the players want to hear – if we sign another striker in the summer, that’s competition for me and hopefully that will push me, Sylvan and the others on again and make us try that bit harder to try to stay in the team.
“The aim is to stay in the Premier League with the facilities we have and everything behind us to improve again and push on massively.”

lol i love a laugh after a long shift i always go to bed with a bigger smile i just love the quote ” the manager has said to me and a good few others ( respecting all his players there then lol )that if we stay up there will be strengthening. now i was looking the other day and i thought i was drunk but the ground is looking a little lop sided. ah well you have to give him credit

Your point is? Concentrate on your own problems in that you are just about in a promotion spot and Forest your nearest challengers totally outclassed you a few weeks ago.
We are in a struggle but are still in a far healthier position than all of the Tesco Premiership campaigns – on and off the pitch!
So if he said ‘we WONT be buying any players if we stop’ would that make more sense, you jealous play-off bound tesco loser?
See you are only a small i then. Not too good at grammar are we???
Listen sunshine Wolves are still 5 places ABOVE the TESCO’s and are likely to stay there.
I can remember exactly the same lol comments coming fron your “saviour” at the time Mr Mobray remember him? Together with the lol comment that Kit Carson was Englands No1 keeper. Now theres a damn good lol if ever there was one.
Carson is a damn site better keeper than we got, what are wolves keepers claims to fame.
Give it up pal, I think we’ve all worked out you are an olboin fan…

Yes, I remember Ron Atkinson, Ossie Ardiles and Tony Nobrayne saying the same just before catching their taxi’s from halford Lane lol!

There is a funny, but oh so familiar, smell on this particular post – Oh yeah, it’s that Championship side up the road!
That championship side that battered us in the play offs and fa cup and scored against us for fun.

not the same side 6 fingers !!!!

FAIR PLAY TO DOYLER….BUT THE MANAGER SAID WE WILL STRENGHTEN IN THE SUMMER DIDNT THEY SAY THAT IN JANUARY!!!!!!!!!!!OH I FORGOT WE BROUGHT IN BUNGEE JUMP MIA
Report abuse
KD, We were promised this last summer!
Sorry but dont be fooled by promises, the fans have been fed this line for years.
PLEASE GOD LET US STOP UP !! I WILL BE GOOD AND EVERYTHING !!! LOL
Report abuse
Sort of nice to hear, but it doesn’t say that he won’t leave if we get relegated.
Can’t say I blame him though – a very talented, hard-working player who deserves to be in the Premiership.
Keep everything crossed we stay up.
Well we have to stop up first Kevin mate but if we do stop up then i think we will be really good then. I mean we have done well now so if we do stop up then we can only get better. Up The Wolves!
He’s a formidable striker and with support will get better. We can only hope he keeps thinking this way.
Pity these statements from Doyle wernt published before our great leader went telling the world he would be leaving re-gardless,wether we went down or not.
Thats him going then!
So if we stay up we will get new players and some the current team will lose their places! So would some these players get relegated and see no signings helping them keep place?
Brilliant. Let’s just win on Saturday and see if we can make that if start to turn to a when. 3 claret and blue away wins in a row? UTW
Report abuse
E&S must be really hard up for stories. I take this with a big pinch of salt.
More spin from the wolves camp, thought we said same thing last summer? false promise’s
out of the 18.5mill we have spent, wheres the actual quality
doyle
zubar
milijas
the rest was spent on championship players, if only we bought a 2nd foward to go with doyle, we would be alot higher up the table right now.
That’s it then. He’s on his way.
Up to you to score the goals required to keep us up then.
We cannot do that from the terraces!!
Up The Wolves
Report abuse
I wish Mick talked like you instead of saying you’ll be sold if we get relegated. It’s not hard is it?
I’d love to see Doyle and another striker of the same quality up front next season. We’re only a couple of Doyle type signings away from being a mid table team.
we should have had another quality striker january, its to late now,is fatface and the liverpool lier trying to sell tickets when we go down,of which we allready are, they dont deserve good supporters and i wont be getting another season ticket they can stick them, nothing but con men.
Great news and what an insentive to stay up, i really think if we stay up and splash the cash we could BIG once again, heres to the biggest team in the midlands.
theres only one kevin doyle, one kevin doyle!
I’m afraid Mick is lying to you. He too told us fans last year he’d make some good quality high profile signings if we went up and again in January. As far as we can tell apart from yourself our only decent players are the players we already had.
The only way to make this happen is to SCORE SOME GOALS! And get the goal shy EFiresBlanks to do the same!
GREAT TO HEAR KEV ,WE WILL BE BETTER NEXT SEASON ,HOWEVER LOTS TO DO BEFORE THEN
Report abuse
That’s great news – but – even if we do not stop up we still need to retain our better players if we are going to try and win promotion back to the PL, players should honor their contracts anyway.
We are Wolves……………
Report abuse
WOULD LOVE IT IF HE STAYS BUT EVEN IF WE STAY UP WHICH WE WILL I CANT SEE THE BOARD TURNING A OFFER DOWN OF 10 MILLION PLUS FOR HIM AND IF ITS A SIDE IN EUROPEAN COMPETION NEXT SEASON WE HAVE GOT NO CHANCE

I like Doyle, a quality player who seems very level-headed.
If we did go down, I wouldn’t blame him for wanting to leave.
He is too good for the Championship and has proved he is more than capable of playing well in the Premiership.
He was brought to score goals if he is that good why isent he scoring any, waste of money if you ask me.
I take my hat off to you Mr Doyle, you’ve run your heart out and had a thankless job all season and done it without a moan.
Whatever happens I hope we keep hold of you and I hope its in the prem.
If only we had someone to play alongside you.
all we are saying is give us a goal!!!!!!!!!!!!

DOYLE IS A QUALITY PLAYER WHO WOULD BE SORELY MISSED THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP HIM AT THE WOLVES WOULD BE TO STAY UP SO ANOTHER 12 POINTS AND WE SHOULD BE OK. JUST READ ROBBIE BLAKES COMMENTS ABOUT BURNLEY BEING A BETTER TEAM THAN THE WOLVES HOPE HE GETS A FEW SKID MARKS IN IS LUCKY PANTS THIS WEEKEND

Are these the same signings that we were supposed to be getting this season? Can’t wait to see what Sunderland reserves Mick brings in this time!

the only way we will get any body any good is when the muppet gone;

IF IF IF !!!!
IF Mccarthy had not wasted the money he has actually had we would be in a much stronger position than we are now!!!
IF Mccarthy played his players in there correct positions we would be in a much stronger position than we are now!!!
IF Mccarthy actually tried changing his tactics instead of being a stubbon fool we would be in a much stronger position than we are now !!!
On the other hand doyle has been superb for us this season even though he has limited service from our midfield you can still clearly see he is a cut above every single player we have at the club.
We must go 4-4-2 on sat and not go to draw the game with a 4-5-1 system that has simply failed in the last few games. we have six defenders on the pitch under Mccarthys systm and it simply is not working and we are also failing to score from this system.
For this Muppet Mccarthy to come out and say if we go down he will probably be sold is an absolut discrace, Lets be a little more positive because ur negative attitube will rube off onto your players and the fans.
I want Mccarthy OUT at the end of the season regardless off survival!!!

true true
Report abuse
This article says and means nothing. He is a quality striker but needs someone to take the goalscoring burden off him. Sylvan had an injury at the start of the season and has had a few chances that were sitters, missed and his confidence is shot! Iwelumo and the Hoff have also been injured and may not be up for it. Vokes was sent out on loan, is still learning and looks sharp but then last Saturday! Keogh also been injured but is not a prolific scorer. The player who would have made the difference – especially in the new formation – would have been Kites.
One thing I am fairly certain about is that he will be go if relegated. Saying that due to others run ins and current predicament, we should have just enough to do it!
Apart from the obvious response to “a lot of strengthening” that we heard this promise last summer, what I want to know is:
1. who be be selecting these new players – the same person that selected last summer’s signings?
2. who will be persuading these presumably higher class players to come – the same person who tried to persuade the January targets to come?
1. Hopefully the same person who bought the likes of, Blake, Doyle, Jarvis, Kightly, Foley, Zubar, Milijas and others.
2. The Managaer of a club who will be more established next season and a much more enticing prospect for potential signings. The manager wasnt the problem in enticing players, it was the fact that were a club who are favorites to be relegated for a reason.
Milijas! are you sure about that!
1. We are talking about the Premiership now. The contributions of the players you name have been varied in the Prem. and what about the ones signed last summer who haven’t made the grade!
2. I hope you are right but I am not sure that just escaping relegation one season will make us a “much more enticing prospect” the next.
On his day Milijas could be a key player for us, he has gotten us some key goals this season, and hopefully will improve fittness wise.
Mick didnt buy those players when we were in the prem, and they were all astute signings. I think what hes trying to say is the manager has the ability to bring in some decent players as well as some bad transfers. After all, can you name a manager that hasnt mad a bad signing.
As for surviving, it will without a doubt make us a better proposition than the 3 newly promoted teams, which would hopefully help us, but it wont help us attract every player under the sun obviously.
I agree completely with McCarthy’s tactics, he is a legend!

Great to hear it from the lad himself that he wants to stay at Molineux but on the other hand I didn’t like MM saying that he will be sold in the summer also if Wolves stay up because there are clubs who would like him. By the way among the clubs mentioned there is no one from the Big 4.
Sunderland could be fighting for relegation next season and Everton are far from a trophy winning team.
First let Wolves try and keep their place in the Premiership and and we’ll see. Its true MM is promising to bring players in next summer and that’s also what he did last summer and people were happy that he brought in nine players.
But for one reason or another most of them were flops except for Doyle, Zubar, Hahnemann and Milijas while Surnam is one for the future and Maierhoffer, Castillo and Harford didn;t cut it in the big league although their chances were limited.
There is also Mancienne who after being a regular he is now a bit part of the team coming in only in the latter part of the match.
But I say keep the faith everybody, things will only get better. A win at Burnley will be a massive boost to all concerned. Remember Wolves history at Turf Moor is not that bad.
of course he wil stay and we will strenghten in the summer, after we survive comfortably because of mcarthy and despite the the anti 3ms brigade, and jealous boggies , burnley 0 wwfc 2,
Report abuse
Doyle’s obviously a good lad, and I wouldn’t expect him to say anything else. But if we do go down, I hope the club don’t get involved in any undignified Fire-Selling; or conversely, in trying to deny the player a chance to pursue his career elsewhere, as he owes us nothing on the basis of his performances this season.
As it happens, I suspect the only other player who might attract serious attention would be Jarvis, and if he went, that might well be the only position the club would seek to find a replacement for.
Otherwise, I’d expect the spirit of caution/parsimony to prevail and the club to ‘go again’ with the existing squad. After all, the likes of Halford and Surman might well prove their worth in the Championship.
Sorry to blunt your sword mate but we are staying up! Championship talk at this juncture is a waste of time.
We are wanderers say…
Report abuse
Let’s go with a few more games before we start speculating. The here and now is far more important.
No 5, i agree with you , its uncanny as i only wrote on here late last night saying why doesn’t Kevin Doyle just come out and say Yes im staying or No im going ?. Rather than MM saying if we go down he will be off/sold. Then here we are tonight KD saying he’s staying if we ‘stay up’ ? but why’s he not saying he wont be going if we are relegated, or perhaps that decision isn’t his to make?, knowing how JM works, as a huge profit on the £6.5m we spent on him, will always comes before us loyal supporters.
Nice one Kev But don’t believe this board on spending big if we stay up.
Lets hope that a decent striker to partner Doyle will be top of the list. A left back should also be up there along with some old heads- David Dunn would be my choice.
Would like to see McCarthy departing if we stay up and a decent premier league manager take over.
I WOULD GO 4-4-2 ON SATURDAY WITH DOYLE AND GOUDIERA UP FRONT, AND PLAY 2 WINGERS WITH JONES AND HENRY IN THE CENTRE, THEN IF IT DOESNT WORK THROW MILIJAS IN FRONT OF THEM AND GO 3 AT THE BACK…

That’s it then… Job Done!
Dream on baby.

Greetings to you worshipers of the foot and ball. You all seem to criticise Mad Mick when he is on a losing streak and on the other hand when you winning your all on cloud 9.
Wake and smell the coffee and taste the sticky toffee! The Premiership is a festival of 38 games which all will contribute to the fate of wolves survival. Lets all support the Wolves in times of good and bad as we need to send positive vibes to the Wolves squad.
I think the fate of Wolves will depend on the last 4-5 games and if regulated the richer clubs will come in for the Wolve’s talent. As money talks we will have no say in which player wishes to stay or move on. Lets face it if someone offered £10-12 M for Doyle then I am afraid in this world of rich man/poor man we are the poor man.
Lets hope Mad Mick (we’ve made him mad with our unwarranted gossip)can kick the team into winning ways and we gain those golden points to sail away from the relagation boat to the Championship.
Come my wolves, come your Wolves, come our Wolves

Here we go again.
The club spent £18mn in one of the most incredibly tight pre seasons for years. Yes, there was a lot of “chaff”, but, as so many “happy clappers” have pointed out time and time and time again, the “wheat” wont come until you’re established.
So, come the January transfer window, the club ramp it up, and go after the established signings that we all want to see. Johnson and Keane being the bigger guns, along side Hunt (who I admit we may have spent too much effort on). What comes back from the fans ? “We would never have got Keane or Johnson, what were the club doing wasting their time” ? They cant win can they ?
And please, dont come on here saying Moxey was spinning a line about Keane and that it never happened. If he didn’t put the bid up then it would be impossible for him to put it out publicly that he did. If anyone at Spurs had come out and said “that bid never happened” then he would have looked like a total burke – and like him or loathe him, he isn’t that stupid. People suggesting this are living in a different world, in a galaxy far far away.
So, where are we ? Far from where we want to be, with a team that may just scrape 17th and survive. Yes, we all wanted better from the transfer windows, and yes, we’d all like to be a dam site more comfortable than we are, but it aint gonna happen over night. If we do stay up, we will undoubtedly be in a far stronger position to push on next year.
I will criticise Morgan for talking it up too much after last season. He said too much to soon and should have kept quiet, but I like the guy and think he’s got something about him. When he dumps us to buy Liverpool back, you can all come on here and rip me to bits and Ill hold my hands up.
Now I’ll sit back and wait for a torrent of abuse, followed by accusations of me not being a real fan.
Good luck this weekend boys.
Alex, The reason we have not been able to attract quality players other than Doyle, is less to do with us not being established and more to do with the colour of money.
Promised signings if we stay in this league. this is wearing very thin, how many more times do we have to listen to these lies? Mind you Moxey and Morgan have not said HOW MUCH the outlay will be have they? Probably fourteen players costing £5 million!!
I notice there was no commitment to stay if Wolves are relegated
Report abuse
Is this story coming out today got anything to do with it being deadline day for early bird renewals??? Hmmmm
Report abuse
Chris – thanks for the structured response.
I have the upmost respect of your opinion, but notice how Ive put together an argument with both support and criticism of the club ? I dont seem to see any basis or back up for your apparent assumption about the colour of money being the main reason ?
Alex, All I am really saying is that many of the mercenary type of players will play for anyone whether the club is established or not, providing you pay them enough money.I am not advocating an open cheque book policy, but I think if we had been prepared to pay the wages the players would have come.It is a difficult balancing act though.
Who did Birmingham sign in January ?
They were after a host of prem quality strikers, had loads of money to throw at it – and they did try throwing it – yet they ended up with zilch.
Come to think of it, who did they sign pre season that was prem experienced quality ? Scott Dann certainly wasn’t prem experienced, and neither was Benitez. Carr was already there, as were McFadden and Bowyer.
Who else ? Burnley – Zilch, Hull – Zilch, Bolton – Zilch.
Alex, As I and many others on this site said as early as last May,what we needed was quality not necessarily experience.Burnley signed Nugent and Fox in Jan,two players who would have improved us.It is all water under the bridge now.
