Ward: We’re all in this together

Stephen Ward today insisted “heads will not be allowed to drop” at Molineux as Wolves prepare for three away games to shape their Premier League destiny.

Victory for Burnley tonight over Stoke would send Wolves back into the bottom three for the first time in a month before they go to Turf Moor on Saturday.

Trips to Villa and West Ham follow, but despite four defeats in the last five games, Ward says everyone will rally round to the cause with the team still playing well.

“No heads will be allowed to drop in our training ground or in our dressing room because we’re all in it together,” said the left back.

“We just need to dust ourselves down and move on for this game which is massive now.

“We’ve got a good set of lads here, a really top manager, a good assistant and a good staff behind them.

“With the gaffer having so much experience, he’s fully behind the players and we’re fully behind him.

“As a unit we believe we’re good enough to stay in the league.

“It’s just up to us to keep going and we believe we’ll get enough points to do that.”

Ward admits the recent defeats, especially to Chelsea and Manchester United, have been demoralising.

But he believes if the level of performance against the top teams is maintained, it will guarantee points over the last 10 games.

“It’s demoralising because you come in after working so hard and you have nothing to show for it,” he said.

“If you analyse the United game, you wouldn’t say there’s too much wrong with how we’ve been playing.

“It seems like the same old story at the moment, especially against teams ahead of us.

“We played really well and competed with them over 90 minutes and maybe shaded it, but we just couldn’t get that elusive goal and then they punished us.

“I thought we defended very well and limited them to very few chances.

“Our gameplan worked really well, it was just that one chance that cost us and it was really, really frustrating.

“So there’s no point in being over-critical about any part of our game because we’ve done well in recent weeks and hopefully our luck will turn.”
