Carson takes blame for Albion loss

Albion captain Scott Carson have took his share of the blame for Saturday’s defeat at QPR – but ordered the team to quickly forget about their Loftus Road ordeal.

Carson held his hands up over the crucial opening goal in the 3-1 loss, but defended his role in the freak third Rangers strike.

The goalkeeper spilled a cross to allow Jay Simpson to open the scoring early on then saw a 35-yard Akos Buzsaky free-kick to bounce over his head in the second-half.

And the 24-year-old could not hold Adel Taarabt’s cross for the first goal, which was awarded despite his subsequent collision with Tamas Priskin.

Carson said: “I tried to cut the cross out and I just knocked it down. I think I had one hand on it and referee said I didn’t have control of the ball when the guy came in and caught me in the face.

“The ref was probably right but I was just a bit disappointed to be kicked in the face and then to turn around and see the ball going in the net.

“But I should have just held it at the first go and then there wouldn’t have been any discussion.”

After Matthew Connolly had scored for Rangers and Chris Brunt for Albion, substitute Buzsaky made sure of a home win when his long-range free-kick looped over Carson and in off the post to complete the goalkeeper’s embarrassment.

Carson said: “They are difficult and they always seem to go in at the back post. From a goalkeeper’s point of view I had to react from three yards out when it missed the last person.

“But it’s one of those things that summed up the day.”

Albion are back in action tomorrow when they face Sheffield Wednesday in the first of back-to-back home games.

Carson is demanding a reaction against his former club.

He said: “We can’t be too disappointed, we’ve got to move on. If we start feeling sorry for ourselves, before we know it there will be four or five games left and we will have it all to do. We’ve got to pick ourselves up and I’m sure the coaching staff will get us right up for it.

“The massive incentive is to get back to the automatic promotion places and if we get three points on Tuesday we would be back a couple of points ahead, which is always nice.

“But every team always plays 100 times better against us than they do against anybody else but it’s really difficult for us, but it’s all about.”

Fair play scotty, we could all see that you were at fault, but were all human. Just make sure we raise the game tommorrow, we need those three points to get back where we belong. I for one will not be doing any booing tommorrow, and i hope we all get behind the team. Whats gone is gone, just focus on the future.

I can’t really see how he could escape blame for the third goal either – he completely misjudged it. This was by far the worst error as we were on top at that point and looked likely to get an equalizer and go on to win the game. His error gave control of the game back to Rangers and we never looked like getting back into it from that point.
Carson does make some good saves but he makes far too many errors to be counted as a decent keeper. Martin O’Neill is no fool when it comes to judging a player and he has an excellent record of getting the best out of young english players. He couldn’t turn Carson into a decent keeper & I think that says it all. Our only problem is where we go from here as Deano is no better frankly.

Do we have to have this continuous inquest re:Carson?

I don’t deny he was at fault Saturday but there’s such a blame culture developing at the Albion. What happened to us being ‘good supporters’? Every single error is being scrutinised and criticised. We’re turning into the dingles.

Several posts on the other page re: Carson being taken out of the firing line. He’s had one bad game!!! He’s a young keeper who will make a few errors. The only reason he will ever be taken out of the firing line is if you lot won’t leave him alone.

To my mind, he’s had a decent season, and more than balanced out the errors he has made with some fantastic saves, that have earned us points, saves people seem to conveniently forget.

Should he be captain? Is he the finished article? Probably not, but can somebody name me a keeper in this division who hasn’t made a mistake this season? There are no keepers in that division better than Scott Carson.

For heaven’s sake, get behind him and get behind the team, or we’ll be far less likely to go up.

Warren ive never boo`d albion player in my life,i dont know if your aware of recent events surrounding Carson and a section of fans, but i must say he pushed the most loyal fans patience to the limit on saturday, all im saying is that if he makes just the slightest error on tuesday night the boo boys will be unforgiving which in turn will lead olsson to start giving is 2 fingered salutes and unsettle everybody,so in my opinion i thinks its best he is rested.aye boing boing

It’s a fair pont Tel, and my rant’s not aimed at people like you.

All I’m saying is that it’s us that’s forcing RDM’s hand with our constant barracking of our own players, and it will only undermine our promotion challenge, like it did with Wolves for about 15 seasons since the early 90′s.

I don’t bother posting much on here now, got fed up with being slagged off and called an idiot for daring to stick up for players (I have enough rows at matches with the boo boys, I don’t need it on here as well.)

The boo boys have had their way with Zoovy and Mattock now Carson is the next on their tick list. No doubt if Deano comes back in he would get the same treatment from that section of the fans. At least The Hoff is honest enough to say that he doesn’t rate him either.

Yes Carson was at fault on Saturday but it has been pointed out before that I’m naive enough to believe that you don’t crucify your own players. I think it affects the whole team as Olsson has shown by daring to challenge the boo boys on his keepers behalf.

I hope RDM keeps faith with Carson, if only to wind the boo boys up but also I hope that he has a blinder to prove them wrong.

I hope I wasn’t responsible for you staying away after our debate.
You’re obviously a good loyal baggie and although I feel some fans always have their rose tinted glasses on, really these are the best suppoters.

I don’t know who called you an idiot but it wasn’t me and that’s certainly not true either.

Completely agree with Warren – Maybe all of the boo boys who call themselevs ‘Fans’ are finally getting to him!

We all need to get behind the team as supporters – there were numerous rumblings during the last few homes games. I understand the frustrations but what good does it do getting on the players back.

These fans have destroyed numerous young players careers by shattering their confidence – remember a young Scott Darton who got booed everytime he touched the ball?

He has a bad day he says sorry. We move on. Only decent thing the fans can do is cheer him on. The time for post mortems is the end of the season not now. We have got two crutial home games now this week and we need to make them count. There will be twists and turns between now and May but whoever is in one of those Baggies shirts should receive our encouragement during the game. They are the ones responsible for the 63 points we already have after all. Let’s stick with them and back them all the way.
We need to get into games from the kick off (the first kick off) Too often recently we have gifted a lead to our opposition. We need to be mentally ready for the challenge as soon as the game starts. That is what RDM and EN should be looking at.

I can never see the point in booing ANY player whilst the game is on – and its more important when the player is the keeper…. its hard enough without some thicko shouting and booing from the kick off (or the warm up when we played sheff utd).

How is any player supposed to settle and have a good match when the crowd are hoping for a mistake so they can boo ????

Did anyone boo Dorrens when he missed the penalty ??

Did anyone boo bednar when he came back ?

I’m sick of reading the negative wolves style posts that are appearing these days – its either naughty wolfies or so called albion fans who think we have some right to promotion or only want to follow a premiership team.

To fans like Terry – I can understand the frustration – we all feel it, but I’m with you regards the booing !!

Granted there is a section of negative Wolves fans, but as you can well see, there is a simmilar percentage Albion fans that are willing to have a go at their own team.

is everyone forgetting how shakey scott has been for most of the season. his handling of late has been awful the ball never sticks. i think this is why he doesnt come for crosses. i have never and will never boo anyone in an albion shirt end i dont want scott booed. he is one of us. having said that i think thet scott might just cost us automatic promotion cos i think the defence is losing confidencein him . so am i. …… just a thought if newcastle can get george boyd on loan from peterborough why dont we get joe lewis . i think he is a brill keeper already and will only get better

We’re having a go at Carson for a few errors (and seemingly dismissing the saves we seem to just expect from him), and then suggesting Joe Lewis as a replacement.

I’m not being funny Sedgley, but did you not go to Peterborough away or have you not seen them on the box? Joe Lewis is a talented young goalkeeper for sure, but he’s made far more errors that have led to goals than Scott Carson has this season (do you remember Luke Moore’s shot going straight through his body?)…..and with our expectant fans demanding instant success, I don’t think he’d get the time to develop that he needs.

I think the best thing we can do is get behind whoever RDM decides to start with between now and the end of the season and not make RDM’s job harder by booing his selections.

Warren and the rest of the supporters (who go and support).

Lets give all the support for the next 12 finals as they need it. They’re is definitely an unsettling group of boo boys that are hell bent on destroying the hard work that this club has produced over the last 10 years. During my early years at the Albion I remember standing in the Brummie with Smethick end having no roof watching players like ashcroft, donavan, taylor, hunt, then onto Mardon, Burgess, Fabian De Freitas etc.. What we pay to watch today is a far cry from those days yet as we wished and prayed that we didn’t spend another season fighting relegation not even thinking about gracing the fields of the premier league teams we are becoming a typical crowd of too much of a good thing. What happened to enjoying what you have and supporting ‘until you die’? The footballers we possess, the football we watch and the manner in which the club is run is better than most and yet it is still not good enough. Scott Carson is one of the best technically gifted goal keepers that has donned a Albion shirt in years and the fact he is 24, he’s a baby in goalkeeping terms. Seriously cut the negativity out or dont bother showing up, join the dingles down the road or if you want glory then man u & chelsea are for you.

I’m going to be a smarty-pants again. I studied the first goal frame by frame. YES, the goalie spilled it, but where were the defenders to pick up the loose ball? Tamas I think made a valiant attempt to pick it up, but Reid ran away about 8 yards and watched the action like he was one of the crowd! The rest weren’t in sight.

The booing has to stop. Unless your a super rich top of the premier side you can’t afford to boo players. To the boo boys, do you want to support United or Chelsea? They welcome petulant hangers on who don’t understand the game. As the fans we always want more control over the club and the results. Well we do. All we have to do is sing loud and cheer on the side. Newcastle fans are so loud and one sided they make referees blunder decisions. They havent played any better than us this season, but at St James’ they dont lose because the noise puts the other poorer sides in this league off. Lets get behind the players and maybe we can start to pull away from Forest.
