Rooney is complete player for Mick

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has told fans they will see “the complete player” if Wayne Rooney plays for Manchester United against them.

Rooney is a doubt with a knee injury for today’s tea-time clash but such is the England forward’s burning desire that it would be no surprise to see him in action at Molineux.

“He’s world class, he’s brilliant,” said the boss.

“He’s the complete player. He’s top draw and I just love his attitude.

“He plays like he’s playing in the school playground.

“He’s matured and has got better. He’s red hot at the moment.

“I saw him against West Ham and I was sat in amongst the managers and scouts and I was applauding him because he was brilliant.

“It was almost like a computer game – he was flicking the ball up and then smashing it straight to someone on the other side of the pitch.

“I just appreciated watching him play although I’d appreciate not watching him play like that against us.

“He’s just got great energy.”

Wolves defender Christophe Berra reckons Rooney is among the top five players in the world – but is confident they can keep him quiet.

“Rooney is in top form, he’s a world class player and probably one of the best five in the world,” he said.

“We know we’ll have to watch him closely but they’ve got plenty of players who can cause problems and score goals.

“We’ve kept a lot of top players quiet already this season keeping two clean sheets against Tottenham, another against Liverpool.”
