AFC Telford 4 Wolves 0

It was a familiar story for Wolves as a strong reserve side were punished for wasting chances by part-time Telford in a game of contrasting halves at the New Bucks Head.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake – one of seven Wolves first-teamers on view – had three decent attempts in a one-sided first half but couldn’t end his long goal drought.

He saw a fierce drive hit keeper Ryan Price’s legs on 23, turned well but fired weakly at the keeper five minutes later and then had Price fumbling a left foot drive on 39 after cutting inside.

Ebanks-Blake wasn’t the only culprit as Ashley Hemmings saw a shot blocked after Andrew Surman’s chip over the top.

Playing left-back, Surman put Andy Keogh clean through only for the forward to appear to think he was offside and not react quickly enough.

Wolves continued to press and winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing finished poorly after a superb driving run then saw Price parry following a jinking run.

But it was a completely different story after the break as the part-timers took control.

Striker Danny Carey-Bertram broke the deadlock on 51 with a fierce, angled drive that gave unconvincing keeper Daniel East no chance after latching onto Blakeman’s ball down the inside right channel and holding off Richard Stearman.

Incredibly, Wolves wasted another three headed chances from forgotten midfielder Segundo Castillo in between Ebanks-Blake’s effort either side of the hour before Telford doubled their lead.

Substitute Sean Evans scored, bundling home on the line after East failed to hold Phil Trainer’s acutely angled drive at his near post.

Castillo was denied again from another glancing header before Telford sealed an ultimately comfortable win with two Andy Brown goals in six minutes.

Three minutes after his 70th minute arrival, the substitute stabbed home to convert following Evans’s fine left wing run after David Davis gave the ball away in midfield.

And Brown capped a fine cameo by chiselling a 20-yard chip over the helpless East.

AFC Telford (4-4-2): Young; Vaughan, Whitehead (Killock HT), Dugdale, Newton; O’Connor (Brown 70), Rodgers (Nurse 57), Blakeman (Evans 60), Adams; Trainer, Carey-Bertram (Reeves 60).

Wolves (4-4-2): East; Halford, Stearman, Friend, Surman; Mendez-Laing, Castillo, Davis, Hemmings; Keogh, Ebanks-Blake.

Referee: R Ellis.
