Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Guedioura a video star for Wolves

Adlene Guedioura has been marked out as Wolves’ surprise goal threat in the survival bid – after boss Mick McCarthy admitted taking him from watching one DVD.
The French-Algerian midfielder has been an impressive figure in Mick McCarthy’s 4-5-1 formation since arriving on loan for the rest of the season from Belgian club Charleroi, putting himself in the frame for a three-year permanent deal already in place.
Guedioura has shown he isn’t afraid to shoot from any distance and forced a superb save from Petr Cech in last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.
And Wolves boss McCarthy says the powerhouse can be the midfield goal-getter.
“I don’t know whether he’d got a goal pedigree in Belgium, but he certainly rattles them in in training – he finishes for fun,” said the boss.
“That ability has given us something else because he and David Jones have got a goal in them.
“We’ve created equally as many chances playing this way but Adlene’s a real plus because he’s a positive, attacking midfield player.
“If he gets a chance, he’ll pull the trigger and have a shot,” added the Wolves boss.
Of the Chelsea strike, McCarthy reckoned Guedioura caught the ball almost too well.
“If he’d have scuffed it, it would have probably rolled into the bottom of the net,” he said.
“But he nailed it and the keeper put himself into the position to make a fabulous save.”
McCarthy revealed he had placed all his faith in trusted lieutenants Ian Evans and Dave Bowman over the signing of Guedioura for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“I’d only seen him on a DVD –we brought him in on the back of Taff and Dave Bowman’s recommendation,” he said.
“He’s been fantastic, but that’s the beauty of having two fellas I can hang my hat on.”
And McCarthy is hoping Guedioura’s impact can rub off on fellow Charleroi import Geoffrey Mujangi Bia, who has had only minimal impact so far.
“I hope he can follow Adlene’s lead,” said the Wolves boss.
“It’s slightly different in that playing wide, he’s reliant on the service, and he’s not as mature as Adlene is as a guy and as a footballer.
“And he’s having to compete with Matt Jarvis, who’s playing great at the moment.”
