Keogh set for shock Wolves return

Wolves striker Andy Keogh could be ready to make a shock return to the squad for the Premier League trip to Bolton Wanderers.

The Republic of Ireland international only rejoined full training yesterday for the first time since damaging his ankle tendon in December.

Keogh hasn’t played at senior level since coming off the bench in the 4-0 defeat at Chelsea on November 21 and hasn’t even had a reserve game since his injury.

But manager Mick McCarthy was so impressed with the 23-year-old’s fitness that the versatile forward could figure at the Reebok Stadium.

He said: “Andy trained with us yesterday and will travel with us today. He’s been out running, joined in with us yesterday and looked terrific.

“It’s about getting involved and getting knocked about, jumping and landing, but he did all that yesterday. Now we’ll have to see how he feels today.

“I was asked the other day whether he’d be ready and I didn’t think so. I might take a different view on that now.

“But he trained really well so he’ll travel and get into the swing of things. It’s probably unlikely he’d be ready even for the bench but we’ll just see how he reacts to training.”

But it could be another fortnight before fellow ankle victim David Edwards rejoins full training.

McCarthy said: “He could be another week or two before he gets back into training.”

Wolves left-back Stephen Ward was ill in training yesterday, but should be fit for tomorrow.

The manager said: “Wardy was poorly and didn’t train fully yesterday, but he did the warm-up and he’ll be fine.”

yeah maybe he will create chances, not like we have much more. he was by far the best player in the first 6games. he was not treated fairly, getting dropped for SEB when he done nothing wrong knocks the confindence out of any footballer. o and seb has been one of the worst players this year, what can he add to our game other than, moan?

Probably too soon for involvement tomorrow but a timely boost for the rest of the season. The only player in our squad who could do the one up front job in the current formation if (god forbid) Doyler got injured. Also cover for the wing.

we have to replace Kevin Foley with Andy Keogh for our home game for Man Utd. Foley dont make the attacking runs and can’t crossplay a through ball as good as keogh either. He should be at right back where he was player of the season What do you think #1 Foley Fan?

Eh?! Not really reknowned for his goal scoring prowess, but glad he’s back cos he is versatile and makes things happen.

Steady on people, as much as AK has contributed to the team and the 4-5-1 does suit his game, where can you say you have missed his goals? He is woeful infront of goal FACT FACT FACT!

AK will bring others into play and I do hope that is he does start, then he starts infront of Foley, who drops into Right back and put Zubar either on the bench or if Wardy isnt fit, put him left back.

You must be joking he could not hit a barn door from ten paces, he spends most of his time on his backside too light weight. Doyle has no confidence in him if you saw his reactions to his ineptitude when he played with Keogh.

Funny how some players are better suited to the PL and other players who you think will do well fail to make an impact. After playing in Blakes shadow for most of last season he really impressed when given the chance to start in the PL.
Keogh started the campaign well and Wolves have defiantly missed his high work rate. I think he’d play well tucked in behind Doyle, he’d give us more offensive options.

Have to agree with you but who would you drop to fit him in team?

    • Wolves Moose

Well said, has an intelligent PL footballing brain and is able to open up defences with his runs into the channels. I think he would fit in perfect behind Doyle for games where we are most likely to win!.

      Who would you drop??

Jones and French G are doing well in the centre Jarvis on the Left, Foley on the Right (who else can play there?) means it would have to be Henry or play with just three at the back. MM wont drop Henry so that means he will either play Keogh out on the right instead of Foley or do away with Jones.

      OR –

Personnally I would have liked to see Jarvis switch to the right (he always cuts back where possible to cross with his right) Mijas in the centre with with French G Jones on the left (has good left foot and would provide cover for Ward) and play Keogh tucked in behind Doyle.

A far more positive line up that may score goals (bound to leak some too) against the inferior teams in the league

Great news to have Keogh back in the squad, and lets hope that mick plays him with Doyle early, because the first goal will win this match.

I have just read that Warnock will leave Palace tomorrow for QPR, and plans his first signing will be Stefan Hough, our 6’7 striker that Mick has never given a chance to to prove himself.

If he was half the player Crouch is for Spurs,we would have scored more goals, we should also have given Volks and big Chris more scope, but no, Mick insists giving the full load to Doyle.

We must win tomorrow, first goal wins it.

Erm, is this Keogh’s fan club?? Do you guy’s really believe what you have write?

Can’t wait to see him “put a shift in” in MM words, that’s all he does run about!? Never going to score goals, when he does get in good positions not only is he a awful finisher but neither is he able to play a killer ball or cross……….

Funny how MM was adamant we are going to stick with 4-5-1, no matter what’s the fans say. Well now his love child is back I bet he goes back to 4-4-2.

Perhaps SEB could join Big Chris, out on loan to regain the sharpness that terrorized the Championship teams & got us promoted.
On a lighter note, wonder how many will vote fot Big Chris as player of the season, following his goal against that lot from up the road.I cen remember Rob Hindmarch being voted for the same reason.

      Now read it again.
It says squad not team and MM is quoted as saying he’s unlikely to make the bench. Keogh was great at the start of the season, especially that game up at Wigan and he would fit perfectly into the 4-5-1 supporting Doyle and shutting down the opponents midfield.

I think we need a reality check. Keogh had a decent start to the season, but nothing else. He only scored one goal.

He’ll probably do a better job on the wing compared to Foley but I don’t think we should be expecting too much from him when gets back in the team.

Despite his willing I still don’t think he is good enough to take us to another level. Yes he runs and works hard but he’ll never score enough goals, that was evident in the championship and now we’re in the premiership.

I agree he took his chance better than Ebanks but let’s not kid ourselves that he’ll suddenly become a player that he isn’t and score the goals we’re lacking.

I hope he does, but I would rather it was Kightly who was back fit over Keogh!

Of course even if Ward is ill Mick will probably play him as he is one of his ‘favourtites’ who can do no wrong. He has in fact been one of weakest links of late and surely Mick has the defensive options to shuffle the pack and solve the troblesome LB issue. Sorry, but still Doyle on his his own up front tomorrow but as part of a 4-5-1 formation or with a link man just behind him -Keogh??

I THINK IT WILL BE A GREAT OPTION TO HAVE, HE IS A MUCH BETTER PLAYER THAN SEB I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS, HE IS A TEAM PLAYER, DOES NOT MOAN, OK HE DONT HAVE A GOOD SCORING RATE BUT THE TEAM LOOK DEAD WITHOUT HIS WORKRATE AND CREATIVITY. SEB IS A GOAL SCORER, BUT THIS YEAR IN THE PREM ITS JUST A DIFFERENT GAME STYLE ALL TOGETHER. KEOGH SHOULD BE ONLY USED AS A SUB FOR THE NEXT FEW MATCHS AND EVEN AT THAT DONT EXPECT ALOT FROM HIM, THAT INJUIRY WOULD KNOCK ANYONE BACK ALOT LONGER THAN HIM, HE WILL TAKE 3 WEEKS TO GET SHARP AGAIN.

English Exile – I dont know how you can say that 99% of Wolves supporters have ripped Keogh to pieces. When I have seen him play he’s been decent. Unfortunatley I can’t go to any more matches as good old Carillion made me redundant so supporting my beloved Wolves is now a luxury I cant afford at the moment so yep I am now an armchair fan but a REAL fan none the less. Good luck tomorrow it should be 3 points in the bank!

KEOGH and goals dont go together and before the happy clappers start look at your mans record!!If the goals were as wide as each corner flag is from the other he would still MISS!!Keogh is a tryer and a worker and a committed player but he aint no goalscorer…
Doyle as played yet he cnt score either 6 GOALS is not exactly prolific!?
Some wolves fans are CONTENT far to easily statistics say otherwise.
It will never make me a lesser FAN if I say the truth and not butter things up…In real terms I am more of a fan as I express the facts.
We cannot LOSE tommorow as for the team I am always behind them forever.
This season we have to stay up as the prem is at its weakest thats why FANS like me are demanding more we dont ask for europe!!!

Hate to agree, but Keogh actually cannot play in a 4-5-1. His best quality is his movement and sticking him out on the right is a waste of time. He cannot play in the centre as we need two mobile midfielders which we have in Jones and Guedioura. Anyway not relevant today, off to Bolton now and lets make some noise!

After a few hours back training properly MM is floating the idea Keogh MIGHT play a part. I really hope not – we have a tendency to rush players back and so often it goes wrong. Get him in the reserves for a couple of games maybe. But not in the first team too soon.
PS Keogh will add a valuable dimension to our game. He’s a quick, clever and hard working player who creates chances for others, most notably it will be Doyle who’ll benefit.

Biggest disappointment for me this season is..

    Ebanks (Nathan) Blake

    Too fat

    Too Lazy

    Slow to react

Couldnt score if even if it was chelsea’s tempory keeper in goal.

It cant be all about confidence, you cant go from 30 goals a season too

None ! (other than a penalty)

    GET RID in my opinion.

Kightly ?? would of thought he’d broke both of his legs the time he’s spent “injured” this season.

Henry, just cos he’s a wolves fan dont make him good enuff to pull on a Wolves shirt. Has he played any through balls this season ?? NO.

Doyle – CLASS ACT ! enjoy him while he’s still here.

    Our signings

Milijas – too easy knocked off the ball, class for a total of 60 mins this season.

Mujangi – sack our scout for going by you tube video’s, even i could edit a video making me look like “the next Ronaldo”.

As for the others apart from Zubar and the other lad from belgium, arnt even good enuff for championship.

ALL IN ALL total waste of time us being in the premier this season as Morgan and Moxey wernt ever going to give the fans what the deserve after all the heart ache the past 20 years have bought….

Morgan quote “i think mid table is our aim”
Yeah forgot to mention in the fizzy pop part.

Moxey quote “we wont do an Albion”
Nope, we’ll spend less & score less.

Mccarthy “i’ll do it my way”
Play to draw, pack out our midfield with defenders, call us “nuggets”, play folk out of position, publicly come out biggin up every team we play, the list goes on and on.

Believe me, the fans will not put up with this much longer…. TOTAL LET DOWN !

I am known on here for trying to see the positive side of things but….

if the only thing to be positive is that we only made a loss of 9 million last year then

    THATS SUCKS !! RANT OVER.

At least our goal problems will be sorted when Keogh comes back ! haha
