Morrison’s a man on a mission

James Morrison insists he is itching to make up for lost time as he prepares to end his 10-month injury lay-off for Albion tonight.

The midfielder is back in the Baggies’ squad for the FA Cup replay against Reading at The Hawthorns after 10 months out with a heel problem.

And Morrison today revealed he plans to relish every moment of the rest of the season after the frustration of his injury nightmare.

“At times it’s been difficult but I feel I will be a better person for this experience,” said Morrison, who last played on April 19 last year.

“I will always look back at this time and think ‘I’ve got something good here’ and I will try to work on my game and get the best out of my ability.

“I thought last season was one of my best and it was sickening that I couldn’t carry it on this year.

“I think it will take me quite a while to get back to where I want to be and I have seen other people come back and get injured through being too quick, so I will take my time but give it me all.”

Morrison is likely to return as a substitute for tonight’s fifth-round replay with the Royals as head coach Roberto Di Matteo eases him back into action.

But his comeback will give Albion’s promotion campaign a boost and Morrison is determined to add a second Championship winner’s medal to his collection.

The 23-year-old, who played an hour of a private practice match on Monday said: “I’m lucky to have the experience of winning the Championship two seasons ago.

“That experience will help me come back into the team and hopefully we can push on into the top two.

“People think we just want to get promoted but I want to win the league and I think we can.

“I have played an hour and I’ve been training for nearly two weeks now so I feel good and there is no reason why I can’t feel part of the squad now.”

Marek Cech could also return tonight after three weeks out with a hamstring problem but Ishmael Miller (ankle) and Giles Barnes (Achilles) are still out through injury while Jerome Thomas is cup-tied and loanees Frank Nouble and Ben Watson are cup-tied.

Good news about Mozza. Whats happened to Barnes? I thought he came through his last game unscathed?

Hope we don’t push him to hard, but it is nice to have back.I think giles is a slightly different kettle of fish, he has had numerous different injuries to contend with but it won’t be too long before he makes his debut,i’m sure.

Guaranteed to inspire Brunt to get his form back to the level we want and need, loads of insults from his own ‘supporters’. Do you honestly think that does any good? It’s great to think we shall have competition for places soon but we need the all of them to feel wanted, not despised. At lot of football goes on in the head. Try not to make Roberto’s job harder than it need be. PLEASE.
Congrats to Jonas on his call up for Sweden. If anyone deserves it, he does. He probably needs a rest too, but a full cap ? YES. Get in there boy.

      Here Here Cyril.

Given the demands on our players at the moment, there aren’t many I’d wish an international call-up on. But Jonas is obviously a passionate and patriotic man, so congratulations to him. I just hope he comes back in one piece.

I’m actually off to Sweden this weekend. I hope his call-up’s big news over there, it might come in handy when chatting to any young Heidi’s that may be out and about :-)

    Happy.
Nothing to do with this story but in answer to your post on Bomber’s last blog, where you asked him to do one called ‘Football sucks’ regarding Portsmouths shenanigans. I wrote earlier to agree with you but my post has disappeared into that black hole in the E&S website that we’ve all been victim of. (sorry if the grammar’s a bit dodgy Cyril.)

Mick McCarthy said recently that during the transfer window, he’d been gazumped on wages for two players he’s been after by Pompey. During the summer window Phil Brown said the same about three players.
How the hell can this happen?
Why can a club that has been late paying its players, its creditors and the inland revenue carry on throwing money around like confetti?
Who in the club is sanctioning this spending, is it the CEO or is it the owner (who has allegedly been passed as a fit and proper person) and if it is why isn’t he held responsible for his actions?
What are the FA doing about it?
I know this comes under the PL but why isn’t the FA as custodians of our football putting pressure on them to sort the mess out?
I’ve heard today that the FA have come up with some Airy Fairy scheme where clubs must submit there projection for the coming year. Great, that will really solve the problem won’t it as they’ve proved to be such responsible people.

Barry Hearns the Orient Chairman is asking for an automatic two division relegation for any club that goes into administration. No doubt this will be ignored, while the powers that be wring their hands and do next to nothing as usual.

I think it could well be a month or so before Morrison is in the first team. 10 months is a long time out injured and we need to make sure he isn’t out again straight away like Miller. Can’t see G. Barnes getting into the side this season, but I’ve been wrong (many times !) before. Good to know we have a big squad for this injury-hit times.
