No one-man team insists Carson
Tuesday 23rd February 2010, 9:45AM GMT.
Albion captain Scott Carson has insisted the Baggies are not a one-man team despite the stunning form of midfield star Graham Dorrans.
The Baggies goalkeeper is adamant they are not over-reliant on Dorrans, who struck his 13th goal of an impressive season in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Bristol City.
City shackled the Scot in the second half and Albion’s performance level dropped, but Carson reckons Albion have other match-winners at their disposal.
He said: “We were in the driving seat and we can’t rely on one or two players to get us out of trouble. We’re not a one-man team so I’m not buying that. Everyone in the team needs to perform.
“We need to finish games off if we are in the position we were in on Sunday. We were running on empty. People don’t always appreciate how demanding it can be.
“I know it’s the same for all players at all clubs but we’ve played a lot of games, on some poor pitches in a few cases and we’ve lost players to injury and suspension.
“Statistically we knew that our run would end at some point.”
Carson and Co are back in action tomorrow night against Reading in the FA Cup fifth-round replay.
The captain hopes the Cup can act as a ‘pick-me-up’ after Sunday’s loss.
He said: “We want to get through and, who knows, maybe we will get Aston Villa in the next round. We know we’ve got other priorities in the league but this is the FA Cup. I’ve never been this far and to be just two games from Wembley is exciting for everyone.
“We could do with a boost after the result on Sunday and it will be tough, but we’ve got to be positive and make sure we get the right result to take in to the Derby game on Saturday.”
