Morrison named in squad for Reading
Tuesday 23rd February 2010, 2:00PM GMT.
Albion midfielder James Morrison is poised to make his comeback from a 10-month injury lay-off and return to the squad for the FA Cup fifth-round replay against Reading.
The 23-year-old is expected to be among the substitutes when the Baggies take on the Royals at the Hawthorns tomorrow.
Morrison has been sidelined by a heel injury since playing the Premier League match at Manchester City on April 19 last year.
Full-back Marek Cech is also expected to be back tomorrow after three weeks out with a hamstring problem but Giles Barnes (Achilles) and Ishmael Miller (ankle) will not be considered, Frank Nouble and new loan signing Ben Watson are cup-tied and Jerome Thomas is suspended.
Head coach Roberto Di Matteo said: “We’ll have Marek Cech and James Morrison back in the squad. We have to take into consideration that Cech has been out for three weeks and Morrison for 10 months.
“But it’s good to have some players back. Morrison’s been doing well but competitive games are completely different. The fact he has been out of the game for a long time means we have to be careful with him.
“Barnes is getting closer but he’s not in the frame for tomorrow. It’s hard for me to say when Giles and Ishmael will be back.”
Morrison stepped up his comeback with a 60-minute run-out in a behind-closed-doors training match yesterday.
