Albion new signing raring to go

Albion new-boy Ben Watson is straining at the leash to play for the club after joining the Baggies’ promotion campaign for the rest of the season.

The Wigan midfielder has signed on loan and is set to make his debut against Derby at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

And Watson, who has played just 33 minutes for the Latics since ending a loan spell at QPR in December, cannot wait to get started.

He said: “I was called back from my loan and told I would get a chance to play at Wigan, but I’ve only played half an hour in six weeks so it has been frustrating.

“That’s not what I want. I am at an age where I need to be playing first-team football and when the chance came to come to Albion I didn’t need any persuading at all.

“It’s frustrating that I can’t play in the game tonight against Reading, but I’m cup-tied, so I will raring to go against Derby if I get a chance on Saturday.”

Watson has struggled to hold down a Premier League place with the Latics after joining 13 months ago for £2million, but has an impressive track record at Championship level.

The 24-year-old made 187 appearances for Crystal Palace, scoring 20 goals and helping the Eagles reach the play-offs three times and clinching promotion to the Premier League once.

Now the former England under-21 international is confident of claiming a second promotion with Albion.

He said: “I have played nearly 200 games in the Championship so hopefully that experience can help West Brom now. I was at the training ground yesterday and I was really excited by what I saw. It’s obviously a Premier League setup in terms of the facilities and everything about the place.

“The table doesn’t lie and they are obviously a really good Championship side with great chance of promotion, so if I can help them have one last push in the last 16 games of the season it would be great.

“As a player I’d say I am a box-to-box midfielder who gives everything and can hopefully chip in with a few goals, so hopefully I can add something to the team.”

Pleased we have got him in. A bit of extra bite in midfield doesn’t hurt.

What he says here I think sums the lad up. Can’t wait to get on the pitch. Whenever I’ve seen him, he always gives 100% something that seems to go with ginger haired players for some reason. They always seem to have that competitive spirit, Strachan, Megson, Bremner etc.
Hope this post hasn’t broken any diversity laws.

The picture of Morrison on the upper article would demand my attention if we had the facility on here. I’d love to doctor that shot, dress him in early 17th Century posh clothing and present him as The Laughing Cavalier. The moustache is shorter but that’s easily put right. Make a good theme for the last away match, a welcome back for Morrison’s cavalier style of play.

Can’t think of one ginger-nut who didn’t have a winning smile to match a winning temperament and a three second fuse into explosive action. Whether it’s the hair or just what we’ve come to expect I dunno. My missus was 5ft nothing, affable and with luxurious auburn her. Trigger the fuse and the face soon matched. Scary!

Morrison has been out for 10 months with a heel injury so lets not expect too much, we desperately need Cech back though as Mattock is not a championship player.

Important to get a win tonight for momentum but I think it will go down to the last game for 2nd place. Derby on Sat will be a tasty affair but I have a horrible feeling we will lose with that idiot Savage scoring.

Well earned call ups for Olson and Dorrans. No doubt Morrison would be there but for his injury.
This should tell any aspiring young talent, The
Hawthornes is the place to be if they want to
further their career. They will be looked after by our fair minded football club.
