Keogh and Edwards in fitness boost

Wolves’ comeback men Andy Keogh and Dave Edwards are getting ready to rejoin the survival battle after heartening reports from a specialist this week.

The duo were part of a ‘job lot’ of  the club’s casualties who travelled to London for check-ups on their recovery from injuries.

While Michael Kightly remains a frustrated figure in his battle to overcome an ankle problem, Keogh and Edwards at least had good news.

Manager Mick McCarthy said: “Edwards got a good report from the specialist and appears very optimistic about when he will be back to full training again. The news on Andy was good. He will be in full training again next week. That’s a long way from saying he will be fit to play again.

“The Bolton game next week will certainly be too soon for him, but he may well have a chance of figuring at Burnley.”

Both are key matches against immediate rivals in the struggle for Premier League survival and McCarthy would ideally love to have Kightly involved as well.

But there are no signs yet of any improvement and, ruled out for at least another month already, the winger’s best hope now is that he may recover in time to figure in the vital run-in.

Don’t know what planet some of you are on, Keogh is a lower league player at best, 1 goal in 11 appearances this season says it all. He’ll never get the goals to keep us up

Tbf his only goal got us our first win away in how many top flight games.

He’s never going to get more then 10 goals a season in either the championship or the premier league, but he never stops running and trying to link up play. At least its another option up front.

1 goal in 11 appearances is still better than the rest of our strikers though (doyle excluded obviously) and he also contributes a lot more to the team than our other options.

I think the general feeling is that the team will look a lot more balanced with this 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation when we have keogh and jarvis breaking forward from either side in support of doyle.

I agree this clown does not know what he is on about. Cant wait to see keogh pack will give us something different. he looked up for it at the start of the season before his injury he also looked like he had been hitting the gym to toughen up, he did look bigger and less scared. The prem also suits andys way of playing he likes to run in channels which does create space which is priceless at this level, space that doyler can exploit! I think jarvo, doyle and keogh can work well as an attacking 3 and both jarvo and keogh have the pace to get back and help when needs be. Come on Me Babbies!!!!

Short memory. Keogh was tremendous at the the start of the season. I think the Premier League is a much better place for him than the Championship. In fact, if I would compare his abilities and football thinking to any one of our current players it would be Doyle. He is not in the same league, but like Doyle he has a clever football brain, hits the channels, holds the ball up well, is quick and tricky on the ball- defenders did not look comfortable trying to defend against him. He will never score 15 or 20 goals for you but I think he is perfect for the new system. He will run all day for the midfield duties and is perfect when that 4-5-1 formation breaks into the 4-3-3 shape when we hit teams. Saying all that, I would prefer to see Edwards playing the role for exactly the same reasons. We would all the to see Kites back in the side because aside from his running, out the three he is the most likely to chip in with 3 or 4 goals between now and the end of the season. Unfortunately he is certainly still learning and obviously has a tendency to lose his head and has basically injured himself thanks to a reckless challenge in a game in which he was showing his old form and looked like one of our best players. Whether we see him again this season remains to be seen. I thought Edwards looked excellent before his injury and has the nod ahead of Keough from Mick when he is able to choose. The good news is that he has praised Foley for his role on the right but everyone, inlcuding Foley and Mick have acknowledged it is not his best position. With all fit I have no doubts will we reap stability on the right when Foley drops back to right back leaving Ronald, to challenge for the central areas with Jody and Berra who I suspect will remain Micks prefered pair for the remainder of the season. At least with these two players returning, those making mistakes will be replaced. These two can have to potential of two players we never signed in January. I remain very optimistic. I can see us scraping a draw on Saturday, and picking up four points at least from the Bolton and Burnley games. Look at the rest of the fixtures we have left and we would suddenly be in a very good position to stay up. That’s what I was thinking anyway.

can’t really see where keogh would fit into current setup. Def not up front as lone striker, on the right he always drifts in-field & leaves us exposed & i’ve never seen him take any1 on down the flanks. Therefore, offering no more than foley or edwards. More likely be an impact player 4 last 15 mins

I would like to see keogh in an inside forward role, playing Doyle in to feet. Put Newbloke on the right and play Foley at full back. Keep Jones and Henry in the middle.

keogh played well at the start of the season as the only man upfront, and though I cant see him scoring, he has been more effective than the other strikers we have, doyle excepted.
Kites is a big miss and I dont really see him comin back soon enough to make a difference this season.
Edwards has been more than adequately replaced by Mancienne, and guedioura in central midfield, unless MM wants to use him on the wings, as he is more attacking than foley but shooting and finishing poor.He may struggle to get back into the team

Edwards would walk into the team at present – in place of Foley. He was playing well and can score goals. Mancienne is only an option for Henry as the lone defensive midfielder. Guedioura looks quality but it is early days.

Edwards pops up in the area to score goals. Haven’t seen Mancienne do anything similar. Anyway suggesting that 2 players have replaced Edwards is something of a compliment to Edwards. I’m looking forward to Edwards coming back and realistically he’d be challenging for Foley’s place.

Keogh was no good in the Championship. He runs around all day long and works hard, but so does a Sheep Dog.

He hasn’t got the quality to get the goals we need at this level. The 3 Muppets lack of real investment and quality signings means the Happy Clappers on this site are waiting with baited breath for Keogh to score the goals to lift us up the table. It ay gonna happen!

Presumably they are the ones who find themselves tumbling into oblivion, acquiescing to their own downfall by cheering on any perambulatory challenged footballers that our misguided manager chooses. They are without wisdom and trudge ‘Lowry’ like to Molineux to indulge in the misbegotten ritual of cheering on the team without ever exercising a judgemental thought. I don’t think so. On the contrary they are aware of the damage carping criticism can cause and generally refrain from it, preferring instead to cheer the team on and be that valuable 12th man. They have a realistic appraisal of what we can do and what might be done to improve things. However their own sense of worth prevents them from lurking in the shadows spreading bitterness and discord. Glad to be a happy clapper.

Andrew, I think the moral is that it is always best to post by your own name. Fans do moan on here about football and they do in pubs,on the beach,in offices, factories, and sometimes even in bed with the missus. That is what makes the game so special.I think support at the games this season has been good with very little moaning. The counter argument against happy clappers is that if you see something wrong you just ignore it or find excuses to justify the failings.Anyway enjoy the game tomorrow and best of luck to Mick and the lads.In your next post can we have some Van Gogh rather than the drab Lowry.

I think the 4-5-1 formation would work well with Edwards in it. He started getting a few good games under his belt before he got injured at Spurs.

Keogh is sometimes a bit hit and miss but you can’t fault the little man for effort. Runs all day long. 1 goal in 11 is still a better tally than SEB. Don’t get me wrong SEB had a blinding season and a half since we signed him. This season I can’t decide whether he looks out of his depth in the PL or he just isn’t giving it his all. I hope it’s neither and he gets gets that goal that he is craving. Would love to see SEB get that goal and he goes on to score more that end up keeping us up.

Whatever team is out I will back 110%. Straight at the Blues out of the traps lads. Be interesting to see what theatricals will be on show from Mr Drogba.

In a 4-5-1 formation, Dave Edwards would be key I reckon.

He’s got a tremendous engine and would get beyond the striker all of the time (making him really difficult for the defenders to pick up).

We can sometimes be a bit exposed when he does this in a 4-4-2, but with the extra man in midfield, this system is made for him.

I agree that Dave Edwards would no doubt improve our 4-5-1 formation. For example IMO he controlled the midfield away at Wigan. However i don’t think any of our players can be dropped if we carry performing how we did against spurs.

Well im sorry but ive always been a Keogh fan, ever since since he arrived, some fans just love to hate certain players and he’s been one of them. Yet if you sit watch him and the positions he takes up and passes he creates for other players plus his workrate makes him a very good assest to our team. Ive said on many blogs that Keogh IS NOT an out n out STRIKER, he’s an old style ‘inside forward’ like Peter Broadbent’ only nowhere as good as Peter was, but he does take up very good positions in around the stiker/s but lacks a strikers natural shooting instinct always instead looking to feed other players. GOOD LUCK FOR SATURDAY LADS

Yes Dave Edwards is another underated player like many of you’ve said he will run up n down all day long. He could be the best box to box player here since Geoff Thomas, the timing of his runs into the penalty box are very good and should result in a few more goals than he actully scores. But i do also rate him very highly and given his and Keogh’s ages i think bodes well for the future of Wolves. GOOD LUCK ON SATURDAY LADS

Those criticising Keogh on here have a clear lack of understanding as to the type of player he is. He’s never going to get 10 PL goals or 20 CCC goals but what he will do is work the channels, bring others into play and hold the ball up when it’s played into his feet. There are too many idiots sat round by me who want us to hoof it up to a big man. Our goal at home v Spurs shows we don’t have to do that. We get very little possession against the top sides in this division as it is. At least with Keogh the ball sticks and others can come into play. Give me that anyday rather than trying to bounce balls off the head of the departed Iwelumo or Vokes or the Hof which is bread and butter defending for most PL centre halves.

I really despair sometimes when I read some of the postings on this thread.

Keogh as has been said SO MANY TIMES ALREADY is NOT going to score many goals, he’s not that type of player. He does as has also been said SO MANY TIMES ALREADY run himself into the ground, link up play, bring others into the game and generally make life uncomfortable for defenders.

Knock him all you wish with your “headless chicken” etc. type comments, but up until he was dropped and then got injured he was BY FAR the best strike partner for Doyle. I too really wanted Doyle and SEB to click but it just hasn’t happened, not yet anyway as SEB’s confidence is shot. IMO it should have SEB to go out on loan not Iwelumo, but that is immaterial right now. I also believe that if Keogh had been given a decent run with Doyle, we would have more points AND goals by now, maybe Keogh WOULDN’T score them but I’m convinced he’d make chances for Doyle to. Hopefully we may see if that happens in the future.

A few Keogh facts. (for the fans with short memories)

He scored 2 against Derby away last season, including the winning goal.

He UNSELFISHLY passed the ball to SEB to score the only goal against QPR at home last season, which secured promotion to this league.

He scored with a header that ANY striker would be proud of against Wigan away to give us our first away win of this season.

If it wasn’t for Keogh at times last season we probably wouldn’t be in this league at all, but some of you either conveniently forget that fact or refuse to acknowledge his part in our promotion and points for this season too. Yes, he got 3 VERY valuable points for us against Wigan away. Those 3 points may (fingers crossed) prove to be enough to keep us in this league next season, and as we all know points are like gold dust for teams such as us in this league.

Keogh is only in his 20′s at the moment, but to read what some of you lot post you’d think he was in his 30′s and almost washed up! I for one truly believe that IF some of you fans give him a proper chance when he returns, he will prove you wrong and become a better player for us. I seem to remember a poster called “The Usual Suspects” (hi mate if you’re reading this)suggesting that Keogh could also play the attacking midfielder or “hole” position if we employed, it using him. I agreed as he is that type of player.

What is it about some of our fans? They don’t seem to want to give anyone a chance to prove themselves and are cast aside before they are given a fair chance.
Look at Guedioura, most posts said things like “who is he” and “he’s just a player from a lower league club in Belgium. Doyle plays for a team in the bottom half of the Prem. Would you say he is not quality?
Amazingly now however Guediuora’s fantastic and a player we all have taken to, and why is that? We have now SEEN him in our shirt and liked what we saw. I know it’s early days with him but as a few of us said at the time (including me), give him a chance to show what he can do in our shirt. I just want to make it clear I am not saying “I told you so”, I’m merely pointing out we should give players a chance before slamming them. He has now shown what he can do and he has impressed, he’s exactly how MM dscribed him when he first came. An all action midfielder. I really hope he continues to play for us like that as we have needed a player like him since the days of Ince and Rae.

This season we are doing so much better than the last time we were here. Last time one result I remember (with sadness) was Wolves 0 Charlton 4. CHARLTON 4???? Now I do realise Charlton were a half decent side at the time but still, conceding 4 at home to them is not good. This time though we are not getting stuffed by most teams and we have to be happy that is the case surely? The days of us being a club which beat most teams we played are LONG GONE, and it will be quite a while before they return again.

If you want to deride me for my thoughts then go ahead, but I am ALWAYS willing to give a player a chance when they will be wearing our shirt.

Doyle is doing a phenomenal job as the lone striker at the moment, but as the season wears on his fitness levels may drop and players like Keogh and Edwards in the middle will give him much needed help.

I await the usual derogatory replies that I am a muppet etc. but I really don’t care as it’s my opinion and my beliefs, we can’t all agree with each other. Otherwise life would be very boring wouldn’t it? If you agree, then you agree, and if you don’t, you don’t. It’s as simple as that.

    We Are Wolves.

As he says he is looking forward to the challenge of Chelsea because they are full of international pedigree, nevertheless he says Wolves should not show respect to the extent they are overawed. Adlene, Adlene, Adlene I sincerely love the way you come accross, this attitude has to be good for the whole team spirit & instill a belief that Chelsea can be matched pass for pass, tackle for tackle, goal for goal….go out & surprise them Wolves. In the EPL or the CCC…not much longevity there really & sadly a get out clause in the contract. Reading (as in word association, not his former club) between the lines I would say a number of clubs have been sniffing around, Man Utd were mentioned….wouldn’t be surprised if a descreet enquiry was made by Alex in the window…not for this season, but for next…probably offer Michael Owen as part of any deal..
