Albion in good shape insists Brunt

Albion winger Chris Brunt has insisted the team will be in good shape to take on Bristol City – despite the injury crisis at the Hawthorns.
Brunt believes two days of rest since the 1-1 draw at Cardiff will help the Baggies recover in time for Sunday’s trip to Ashton Gate, in spite of six possible starters ruled out by injury or suspension.
The wide man was forced to switch to a central midfield role as Albion pieced together a team for Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Cardiff, but Brunt believes that battling point proved the squad will cope with their current problems.
He said: “We’ve got a good spirit and a good set of lads who work hard for each other. We’re down to the bare bones at the moment and a lot of lads have played a lot of games recently, but it didn’t look too bad on Tuesday.
“At the end we were the team on top, although a point was probably a fair reflection. You’ve just got to get on with it. You do as much as possible to prepare properly for each game and eat properly and rest in the hotels.
“I think everybody felt alright on Tuesday but there were a few tired legs towards the end. But we have had a couple of days now to prepare for Sunday and another tough game.
“It’s great to have a bit of family time, because we’ve been there a lot lately and I think March is probably the same as February has been, so it’s nice to have a few days off.”
Albion’s players returned to work this morning after two days of rest ahead of Sunday’s televised clash.
Youssouf Mulumbu’s return from suspension should allow Brunt to revert to his favoured wide midfield role at Ashton Gate.
But the Northern Ireland international is happy to fill in again in the centre, after partnering Graham Dorrans who occupied an emergency holding role, and Robert Koren.
Brunt said: “I quite enjoyed it, and in there with the likes of ‘Dozza’ and ‘Roko’ you know you’re going to have good players with you.
“We didn’t have the natural safety valve that we have with Gonzalo Jara or Youssouf in there, but I thought the three of us dealt with it quite well.
“Dozza sat deep mostly but myself and Roko had spells in there as well, so it’s something I’m quite comfortable doing if I am needed.”
