Wolves hit back at Warnock claims

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey is embroiled in a row with Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock over an alleged £1.5million bid for Victor Moses and Nathaniel Clyne.

Moses joined Wigan for £2.5million last week, when Wolves had a bid believed to be £500,000 rising to £700,000 for Clyne accepted by Palace’s administrator Brendan Guilfoyle.

Warnock claimed Wolves lodged a “laughable” joint bid for the pair, which Moxey insisted was untrue.

The Palace boss said: “Nathaniel Clyne was given permission to talk to Wolves after they had agreed a £700,000 fee. I told the administrator the figure was a third of what Nathaniel is worth, although I can’t blame Jez Moxey for offering such laughable figure.

“At least it was more realistic than the £1.5million he offered for Victor and Nathaniel.”

But Moxey hit back, saying: “Neil Warnock’s claims that we made a bid for both Victor Moses and Nathaniel Clyne are untrue.

“We were being encouraged by Brendan Guilfoyle, the Crystal Palace administrator, to make a bid for Moses but he wasn’t really a player Mick wanted to sign. No offer was submitted.

“Crystal Palace were desperate for any kind of help they could get, so much so that prior to the first FA Cup tie, they asked us if we could remit their share of the gate money immediately rather than the statutory 14 days, and we agreed to do that. So for Neil Warnock to make inaccurate claims is disappointing.

“Especially when firstly, we turned round their request for early payment on the gate money in a couple of days, second, they were the ones driving the issue for sales of their players, third, we never made a joint bid, and fourth, the bid for Clyne wasn’t £700,000, but what was accepted was a significantly lower figure and Neil knew that.

“What happened was that in the administrator’s attempt to drive interest in sales, Palace was so desperate for money that they were saying ‘please make a bid’ for any of our players.

“We did make an offer for Nathaniel Clyne but it was more of a speculative bid. We like young players and thought he was one for the future. But we’re inundated with right-backs at the moment, so it wasn’t high on the agenda.

“In his attempt to drive up the price, the administrator was wrong to make statements regarding informal talks which is as disappointing as it is appropriate.”

I thought Victor Moses is a young player and one for the future too?

    Fat Controller please resign.

Moses not the type of player Mick wanted to sign??? What type is that then?….Quality?!! Hey Mick we could get Moses in Jez says, mick replies ”Nah I don’t want Moses, i’d rather have a young winger from Belgium i’ve never heard of or seen play!” Jez and Mick are worse than the chuckle brothers it’d be funny if it weren’t so effin’ tragic!!

Please could posters have more imagination than 100 comments on the ‘inundated with right-backs’ line!
Still sounds like trying to get players on the cheap – Moxey is an expert at getting players for good prices from clubs in financial problems rather than the ones we actually need. This is becuase he is a businessman and not a sportsman.
Neil Warnock is an idiot, but that is only news to Angry Wolf.

I wish Mick would have been interested in Moses!

I think he was a better gamble than Geoff based on the evidence so far!

At the end of the day wolves have no real ambition. They’re happy to be a yo-yo club and balance the books. Woo hoo!!!

the thing that really shocks me there is that Victor Moses (potentially one of the best youngsters at the moment) WASNT a player mick wanted to sign!!!!!!!!!

It seems to me the focus in the transfer window was completely wrong. Hull played us like a fish on a line and we should have said get lost weeks before the end of the window. I don’t care about sparring with Warnock all I care about is for the 3Ms to be busting a gut to get us out of the mess we are in. Mick looks absolutely broken and you have to ask if it is anyone’s best interest to stay as we are. I guess the damage was done in the summer when we didn’t buy quality but some barmy decisions along the way have made us look stupid. I feel sorry for the players who are trying their best in a system that doesn’t work and must be looking at the up and coming matches with trepidation. And so are we but we all have to get behind the lads tomorrow. One good result would do so much for us.

    Not interested in Victor Moses??!!
What a missed opportunity, i was hoping we would sign him but alas it was not to be.
Is it because he is neither Irish or an ex Sunderland player?

But lets face it warnock wouldnt be happy unless he was insulting or upsetting somebody in football.

    What an absolute joke.
It sums up our tranfer dealings – half hearted gestures just to say that they tried, when they never wanted to spend in the first place.

Will Moxey get another bonus this year if we go down? They must be swimming in money by their complete lack of effort in the transfer window, I don’t believe a word of this at all.
