Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
McCarthy still confident of survival
Monday 8th February 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has insisted his team can beat the drop if they continue playing as they are – despite admitting they will be written off.
Yesterday’s harsh 2-1 defeat at Birmingham left the club second bottom of the Premier League and a point from safety, after Hull and Burnley beat Manchester City and West Ham respectively.
Wolves’ equal lowest position of the season comes with home games against Champions League-chasing Tottenham on Wednesday before league leaders Chelsea and Manchester United visit Molineux.
But McCarthy remains confident his players can survive, despite seeing Kevin Doyle’s opener cancelled out by substitute Kevin Phillips’s late double.
The manager said: “We’ve been written off before – I know it will happen but I can’t do anything about it. If we’d played like we did at Crystal Palace, you could wash your hands of us and say we’re down.
“But it’s still very tight, so if we play like we did yesterday and against Hull and Liverpool, it would be remiss of anyone to write us off. We have got a chance.
“We have beaten Spurs once, so let’s do it again.”
But McCarthy admits there will be a job to rebuild morale, after revealing the players were as low as they have been all season after defeat at St Andrew’s.
He said: “It might just need the red nose and silly hat routine to get us going,. That was as bad as I’ve felt because we were the best side for 20 minutes in the second-half, but that’s when we needed to score.
“That was as disappointed, as I’ve seen the lads afterwards this season. It was gut-wrenching. It becomes harder to pick everybody up, because we didn’t get what we deserved.
“They’re a great bunch of lads who give absolutely everything and I was in there being critical, which was difficult because there was no lack of effort or determination. But if you make mistakes you get punished.
“Fortunately we’ve got a big game on Wednesday, so that’s all the motivation we need.”
McCarthy admits it’s hard for the fans.
He said: “I feel as sorry for them as anybody – our away support has been terrific. They deserve to see their team up the league.”

Playing the same players and same system will hinder chances of survival. We can’t score and can’t defend, look at the goals ratio for the last 6 plus games. We are more than likely going down but let us put out a team that might just give us a chance.Emphasis on attack, please!.
Spot on Mike.
This system does not suit OUR players.
It is releasing players like Foley, Henry & Jones in advanced goalscoring positions(occasionally)…but it is better to have strikers in and around the box not midfielders who can’t shoot.
Also, it stops the likes of Henry & Jones from doing defensively what they normally do and they just switched off at times.
Plus we are still asking Jarvis to do too much defensive work in this system.
No all we have done is moved the pieces on the board and have some players playing an unnatural game.
GET JARVIS UP FRONT WITH DOYLE PLAYING ON THE SHOULDER OF THE LAST DEFENDER AND USE 2 FROM MILLIJAS, SURMAN AND JONES TO FIND HIM. That would be my solution.
Due to the injuries rather than play a 4-5-1 we could look at using Foley and Surman as wing backs and go with a formation like this:-
Hahnemann
Zubar Craddock Berra
Guedioura/Henry
Foley Milijas Jones Surman
Doyle Jarvis
This line up at least shows some attacking intent
Report abuse
I almost totally agree with your side and formation. The problem I have with that line up is that when I’ve seen us play 5 at the back, Craddock and Berra seem to go to pieces and don’t pick up.
Also, I tend to want Zubar as far away from our goal as possible! He’ll just cost us goals. But Zubar could play in front of Foley I believe. He would be a bit of a handful galloping down that line, cos he’s a beast. And you could aim for him off all goal kicks etc.
I’d be looking to have Mancienne, Stearman & Craddock as my 3 centre halfs.
But the side you’ve said would create tons more chances than the side Mick is picking.
Thats great Brummie Rob. Thank god Mick is the manager and not you. LOL.
No Left back and 2 strikers. What formation is that. LOL
3 – 1 – 4- 2
Report abuse
How about we played Guedioura and Henry? 12 men might help us out a bit!
I would not play FOLEY in midfield, he doesnt offer any attacking presence what so ever.I like the back three but i would rather see us play 4 at the back Zubar Craddock Berra foley. simple 4-4-1-1 possibly?
Hanhemann
Zubar Craddock Berra Foley
Milijas Henry Jarvis ?????????
and Guedioura supporting Doyle just behind him?
In response to Golden Blood, Surman can play left back but I am saying a wing back in any case.

we were equal to birmingham on sunday….. the only difference was…… wolves have only one striker that can score and the blues have three….. a season would have been changed if we could have got a striker that could score……it seems hard to look optimistic with those three games coming up.
Disagree we do not create enough clear cut chances, how many have we had. Doyle works hard but how many goals has he scored just a few more than Jody Cradock. I’m not blamming the strikers we play that negatively it’s a joke.
Too many changes, too many round pegs in square holes not enough brains at the start of the season to buy experience.
I think reading this he has lost it i watched all three games and apart from Hull we never really made any chances for our forwards. The place i think he lives is cloud cookoo land.
I agree, all I hear is talk of strikers but how many clear cut chances do we miss. I think blues success is built on a two rocks at the back and plenty of cover in midfield yet mccarthy has that joke of a defence out. I;m sorry but Craddick, Berra and Ward are simply not good enough and Zubar is a centre half.
Disagree chap. Tehy have not scored goals either. There strength has come from defence.
We need to defend better as goal scoring is not our forte this season.,
Report abuse
Spot on. Craddock and Berra cost us both goals.
Phillips has 10 goals in 15 games against us, did we not know he was on the pitch?
We have one Premier class player Doyle and thats it.
MM’s big mistake was not investing in some class centre backs. Berra is SPL mediocrity at best and Craddock is past it.
We have no choice to pray we can stay up with the current team as we will not be signign anyone else.

ATLANTA WOLVES
Report abuse
Think you will find that Karl Henry was at fault with the 2nd goal. He jogged behind Phillips from the half way line and watched him finish. He should have at least got goal side – basic stuff really! This is too often the case with Henry, his positional sense and reading of the game is zero!
The difference was they had proper full backs and not a make shift one (Ward), he might have been half decent in past games but for me it was unfogiveable to let Carr run at him and let him keep coming and coming. Ward was like a rabbit caught in a Car(r’s) headlights and was frozen into inactivity.
Get that Crystal Palace full back as we will need him next year in the championship. The one positive from the result for me, was just how good Doyle is and has become at playing up front alone, I pray to God he doesnt get injured or we have definately had it.
I wish I had as much faith as McCarthy, unfortunately I saw a side that ”attacked” without conviction and completly lacked confidence.
Times up I’m afraid.
Take Moxey with you as well please.

Yes Mick, we do deserve to see the team up the league. We pay one of the most for tickets in this league, therefore we deserved to have had a bit more spent on the team. You cant make a silk purse from a sows ear.
The pitifull amount offered for the two palace lads is a true statement of the lack of ambition.
We are going down and I for one am annoyed beyond belief as we did have a great chance. We will always be a Championship club behind the scenes.

Did he do it with West Ham???
I’d go for Hughes he did well for Blackburn
Report abuse
Yes I think he did do it at West Ham.
They were miles adrift at the bottom of the table when he joined, but he still managed to keep them up on the last day of the season with a win over Man U!
They were 9th in the Premier League when he left, due to owners meddling over player signings.
Cheers for that. I couldnt remember how well he did. Thats very imformative and sounds good to me! :D
Report abuse
I would go for ANYONE to replace the one we have got and bring back John Richards as CEO at least he was Wolves through and through more than can be said for Moxey. If there is a total clearout, which there should be, put clip board and the rest of the purported “coaching staff” on the list.

We got what we deserved on sunday. We set out like a lower league team playing a top flight team in the cup, hoping to sneak a goal and hang on.
We had only 2 attack minded players in the starting 11 and tactics include long ball up to Doyle(who was first rate but must be so fed up with it) and hoping he can beat their intire back line.
We were lucky not to be behind in the first 10 mins , Zubar committed another penalty right before half time.
4-5-1 is fine IF you have 2 wingers not 4 defensive minded midfielders.
We will not win enough games playing this way.
He needs to go.

our players in there natural positions.
It just wasn’t the team that were gutted on Sunday

“They’re a great bunch of lads who give absolutely everything and I was in there being critical, which was difficult because there was no lack of effort or determination. But if you make mistakes you get punished.”
Bemoaning mistakes again Mick? Well if you had signed a quality specialist LEFT BACK instead of insisting that your Championship standard converted centre forward is up to the job, many of these mistakes would have been cut out.
Nothing against Wardy, he puts his heart and soul into games and is a reasonable hustler and tackler, but his defensive brain is nowhere near the required standard and other teams are playing on this weak link. The vast majority of goals conceded, including both goals yesterday, come from our left back area.
I’m a little fed up of your constant blaming of individual errors when it’s actually your gross misjudment that should be called into question, although your arrogance will never allow you to admit it, publically at least. Maybe, just maybe, these errors are down to you by asking these lads to perform above their standard, often out of position.
agree with you about that Mike. Why is it that all the journalists are so timid when they interview McCarthy. They let him get away with murder. Why don’t they ask why he plays people out of position? Why don’t they ask why Milijas wasn’t playing? Why don’t they ask why Doyle is left on his own? Why don’t they ask why we don’t play the players we have bought? Have you ever heard McCarthy say he has made a mistake?
Come on Express and Star be a bit more critical in your dealings with Wolverhampton Wanderers. We need some Jeremy Paxton style journalism in football and not this bland reporting we have become accustomed to.
MM has the press in his pocket.
In the past, even as recent as the Man U disgrace, when more probing or critical questions are asked he bats them away in a very aggressive and rude manner leaving the poor journo who dared ask quaking.

Playing as we are will get us relegated, the truth is our defending is woeful, Craddock and Bera are to simular, good in the air but lose their man to often and just hoof it when they got it, Ward is just not good enough in any department and Zuba is a liability. Were playing 2 defenders in midfield including player of the year Foley, this makes no sence at all, we do not create enough chances, its time to freshen it up and go for it, bring the new kid in he looked good yesterday, put Dan Jones at left back and Foley back at right back, but I fear it is to late we did not invest enough at the begining of the season and January was to late.

For large parts of the game we looked like we would get something out of the game.As others have said we seemed to be the more tired side in the last 10 minutes. In my opinion he got the subs wrong. This is not the time for untried players who have never played in the Prem. You need midfield players immediately up to the pace and who can track back. Also you could see for the first goal the Blues were outnunbering us on our left.So surely it would have made sense to bring on Elokobi or Stearman.Despite their limitations they would have been better placed to stop runs down the left. And at 1 -1 we should have tried to settle for the draw by slowing the game down and tightening up.That’s my theory anyway.
Completely agree about the left side. As the home team became more dominant (as you’d expect us to if we were at home) Jarvis was becoming more and more of an outlet, and couldn’t / wasn’t providins as much cover for Ward as needed. I dont care if you’re the best left back in England, if you’re outnumbered time and time again, you can do nothing to prevent what ultimately occured. I think its unfair on Ward that he’s been blamed by some on here for the goals. Craddock (as well as he’s done this season) has had more than enough experience of Phillips in his time to know better and should’ve been tighter. May be thats where Mick should’ve made a change.
Alex I think we need to recognise that in those cicumstances Philips is very good, maybe as good as anybody around at present,I think the way to stop it is to cut out the service,ie stop the run and cross by Carr.Did you see MoD where they showed Philips’ position when Carr started his run. He had dropped off the two centre backs and Mancienne was asleep giving him far too much space.
Sorry I mean Phillips of course.I also agree with GB’S Yead about keeping Zubar away from the middle, unless you want an own goal or penalty every week.It makes me smile because people who post on here are often mocked by the so called professionals.Yet before we signed Zubar a lot of people posted on this site(not me) that he makes alot of mistakes and we should not sign him.
Glad someone is. Im not at the min.
Im not too bothered if we play well now and get no points, I just want points however they come. No point saying we played well and still lost!
Doyle needs help, he cannot carry this team on his own! I didnt think I’d ever say this but we miss Keogh!

Foley great player but right midfield? As soon a I saw Philips was coming on you could see what would happen.
Hopefully we will end up staying in the Premier league but for the first time this season I have a real fear of relegation.

We lost for simple reasons.. With Dave Jones in midfield bar the first few minutes we looked safe, as soon as he came off for Guedioura, we lost all our shape and spine down the middle. The blues just came running through us like we was not there. What upsets me is that Mick decides to weaken our midfield by bringing on a player who is not used to the premier league.
Yes Guedioura had one good shot, but he just chased around not stopping any birmingham attacks.. Like I have said before this player has had a different team every year for 6 years all in the lower leagues of europe bar the last year.
Everyone knows teams lose derbies because of weak links.. Ive seen enough lost in my time, due to playing young or inexperienced players in positions the opposition is only too glad to take advantage of.. I was sick yesterday like all of you.. I just don’t want this to go on one way or another, it must stop!
Totally agree – we lost the midfield when Jones came off and the pressure started to build form that moment. Guedioura should have closed Carr down before he crossed for the winning goal – but he didn’t and we lost as a result.
So you don’t think back peddling Ward should have put Carr in the stands then? I do.
4-5-1 is the formation that stops the opposition getting too many chances but it has the opposite effect upon us, we don’t score enough goals because we don’t get enough players into the area. So how about we change the formation Mick to 1-5-4? This gives us the attacking options and even if the opposition score a few, we should be able to score more?
OK I’m joking but seriously, attack has always been known as the best form of defence but we play it the other way around and we are just not good enough to do it!
Last season we played an attacking formation and it paid off, so why has that formation been ‘binned’?
4-5-1 stifles play, sure, but Doyle cannot win games on his own, he needs help, we can all see that, surely Mick you must see it too?
So come on Mick, take a deep breath on Wednesday afternoon, take a big sniff on the smelling salts and choose an attacking team and take the game to Tottenham. We cannot afford to keep letting other teams sneak points while we keep dropping them, the outcome will be relegation if we continue to do so!
Finally Mick, do you want to be in charge of a Championship club next season and will Steve Morgan be happy to own a Championship club? – Somehow I don’t think so!
BE POSITIVE MAN – FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE!
We still can survive this season.
There is still enough times and games.
But the time is running out to get a new manager capable of getting the best out of what we have got.
There must be some decent managers out there with more tactical know how who could do a far better job and then attract some new players to improve us next year.
Who is out there?
MICK you must read some of these posts so please answer the following questions honestly:
1 Why do you keep playing SW at left back?
2 Why is CH an everpresent?
3 Why did you buy all the players you did,if only for them to play reserve or on the bench?
4 Why are your tactics so negative & defensive?
5 Why don’t you do us all a favour and leave today?
Things need to nchange to give us any chance of survival. The playing staff cannot be altered due to the absolute shambles that was the Jan Transfer window. The only change we can make is in the managerial structure. MM looked just about done after the game on Sunday. Fresh impetus is needed now. If we wait til march we could be 9/12 points adrift. Mark Hughes for me or Alan Curbishley.
It hurt like hell yesterday.
Zubar is a complete liability and likely to concede a penalty per game – put Foley back in his correct position.
Mancienne in this midfield role ain’t working for me either. Castillo looked decent in his brief outings and I would prefer to see him given a chance in this role.
Give Vokes a chance to help the sublime Doyle up front.

All fair comments here.
We’re certainly not relegated, but if we carry on approaching games the way we are we almost certainly will be.
What will it take for Mick to see that trying to defend out 90 minutes against Premiership sides is just an invitation for them to pick us apart.
As soon as we go 1-0 down we’ve lost our game plan and then at best we will get a point – which isn’t enough.
We need to approach games by trying to score goals – lots of them. With a tight back four and Henry covering the defence that should leave us with 5 attack minded players in the side.
Instead we play with 3 (Doyle, Jarvis, Jones) and wonder why we don’t score enough?
Getting the players up is what you are paid to do, so lets hope you can get these guys going again. YES-they played their hearts out but once again you could see that the team need more self belief. At 1 – 0 up we should have pressed on because Birmingham were bound to throw men forward in the latter stages. You could see Dann and Johnston pushing further up as the half wore one, but we then just defended deeper and deeper asking for Birmingham to come at us.
I would prefer to see us having a real go at attacking teams especially when 1 -0 up instead of trying to hold on, because I just don’t think we have the quality or the experience to do so. Possibly bringing on fresh legs sooner may help.
MICK how about trying something new to cheers us up!

I am sure Doyle would like a 36 year old full back (having played in the last 12 games)to cross the ball for him in that position. Any striker of Doyle’s class will score goals IF chances are created for them. Simple fact is
OUR MIDFIELD OF DEFENDERS CANNOT CREATE CHANCES

The problem isn’t the fact that they are not trying or that they are not determined.
The problem is that there are not enough players good enough to perform at this level, which means that we are having to make tactical compromises.
Bearing in mind that we had cash to spend and the failure to spend it well (Halford, Surman, Maierhoffer etc) in the summer allied with the sheer negligence of not spending money in the window just closed is the responsibility of the manager.
Seems our options are: (1) expect nothing from next three home games and hope those above us do not pull away. Put all our faith on the injured players coming back and us producing title winning form in the last 6 games or (2) change the manager now on the hope that new ideas and a new voice works.
A long shot either way.
Option 3) Leave Mick in charge to take all the blame for this season. Keep your head down, sack him at the end of the season and get a new manager in who the fans will like. Then sell season tickets for the Championship based on the new optimism.
It’s child’s play to Moxey this.
Candy off a baby.
He might even keep the price of the pies and beer the same for next season as a thank you to the fans.
How lucky you all are. Be grateful.
And download a copy of the balance sheet from Companies house and hang it on your bedroom walls.
But Moxey is an employee, under orders. He took all of the bullets for Hayward and he’ll do the same for Morgan.
He is Batfink.

Moxey took very few bullets for Hayward .. he was left to make most of the decisions ..including appointing Hoddle and deciding how much to give Dave Jones in the Prem to spend
Reagrdless of yesterday, we were outfought and outthought in the Summer by Clubs like Blues. Last time up it was the same with Clubs like Portsmouth. McCleish was thought to be living on borrowed time last summer..but his Chief Exec got the Players he wanted ..and quickly
Moxey is no financial whizz.. when he left Sir Jack wrote off a £40 million overdraft facility he had given the Club .. so in reality we were in it as deep as any of ther clubs that have disappeared such as Norwich, Cov Sheff Weds etc etc
If we fall short and drop ..Moxey must go along with McCarthey. In 10 years here we are further from establishing ourselves in the Prem than ever
Report abuse
Moxey made most of the decisions did he?
So do you think that multi millionaires Hayward and Morgan let someone like Moxey have free licence to do what they want with their clubs and their money?
He is under strict directives. The fact that he has always faced up and taken the flack over any on field or off field matters is merely him doing his job.
The fact that most of our fans continue blaming him without turning their attentions to the owners, means that Moxey is doing his job perfectly and his wings of steel will be around for a long long time.
If only Doug Ellis had thought of having a Moxey.

SEB – Still great but lost his mojo
DOYLE & HANNEMAN – Superb
Vokes – Maybe next year in the Championship?
YOU HAVE TO QUESTION THE FITNESS OF THE SQUAD – BLUES LOOKED FRESHER AT THE END AND THEY ALL HAVE PLAYED A RECORD 12 GAMES UNCHANGED AND AVERAGE 4 YEARS OLDER THAN US AND THEY DID ALL THE ATTACKING IN THE MAIN (except Doyle who was superb)
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE YOUNG AND HUNGRY POLICY THEN MICK?
I love this club, but, really now start to question the sanity of Moxey and Morgan allowing the Manager and his assistant Clipboard, to pick the few players we have who are ok, in the wrong position.
Get your calculator out for Wednesday as Defoe, Crouch and Gudjohnson might all play up front against our 10 man defence!!!!
Yes i have just heard that Harry Redknapp may now play his Left Back upfront after watching our performance against Palace.Apparently there is a bet to see if any full back can score quicker hatrick :)
May i add
Jarvis………great unless he has the ball, or has to go anywhere near an opponent to make a tackle.
Thats a pretty good assessment and I agree with nearly all of it however to me Ward is a centre forward so we should play him there, Foley is a full back so play him there, mancienne, zubar etc etc etc we could go on, I do think Castillo has something to offer unfortunatley , like freddy his face dont fit – Ill be there on Wednesday fingers crossed, talismans and lucky pants I think we’ll need em!!

You are not doing an ALBION.For a start we can put more passes in one match to about 8 of yours.ALBION didnt reduce there pitch to a kids size or buy some to take the thowins.
The sandwellian’s right. We’re doing an albion without the (occasional) entertainment value.

Quite right baggie9 – it is impossible for us to be bottom since November and not once moving from the lofty heights of 20th out of 20 teams as you did last year. Short memory.
As for the rest, can you explain what language that’s in because it sure isn’t English?

I think he needs to speak to Frank!!!!

All the fans, whether in the ground or at home watching on TV many like myself around the world, only want the players to play in their best positions, for you McCarthy to play attacking football like last season and give the rest of the season a real go,if then we go down at least we saw some real endeavour and hopefully passion. One certanty is if you carry on like you have been there is only one out come sorry to say. “Simples”

Just for a laugh i played the formation and team Mick played yesterday on the X Box and guess what…….we won. Now i know where he gets his tactics from.
Granted i was playing my 10 year old son and i gave him Notts County to play with.
I wonder what gamer tags MM and O Connor have…?? fuss and panic

Can’t blame the team.
Can’t blame Mick.
Can’t blame anyone.
Who do we pick.
It must be the fans……Ah yes…the fans.
Don’t blame me.
I haven’t done anything.
It’s Mick’s fault

Speechless.The muppet is still here.

Too True.
It is only the loyalty of the fans that is keeping the club going.
If I ran my Plant-Hire business with the same cavalier and arrogant attitude towards my customers, I’d have gone bust years ago!

Just shows you Morgan has bottled it. Bring back Sir Jack he would have had him out before Xmas.

The biggest motivational lift for “the lads” now would be for you to hand your notice in Mick. You have been great for this club since you arrived but I’m afraid you are not a Premiership manager. Do yourself a favour and quit now while the club has time to stay up. You know you are going to be sacked at the end of the season anyway when we are relegated so why take the club with you. You have been great Mick but it’s time to say goodbye. Top quality european manager now required !!!
i agree with wembley66 i have been a supporter for 67years i really thought that this year with the poor quality in the prem., we would hold our own, we may even be passed by bankrupt portsmouth. it seems obviuos that good players do not want to join us . i never thought i would say this but it is time mr morgan to bring in mark hughes lets try and salvage our season. sorry mick you are agood championship manager not a good prem., one.
why is it that teams like wigan who have about a dozen supporters stay in the prem div.,??????
Not good enough.Wolves management can only operate in their comfort zone which is in the middle of the Championship.Everytime we get into the Premier we do not put in the investment needed to stay in it.Instead all we get is lies and more expensive ticket prices that no doubt are going into someones pocket
Report abuse
What did you expect when we won the championship.. It was always going to be ugly in this league every mach is always going to be a battle.
Most of you have lost touch with reality, Get real!!! We are not down yet!!!
If we would have won yesterday we would be sitting 14th now?? Yes I know we didn’t. This is how close this league is. 1 or 2 wins and you find your self mid table.
GET REAL!!! We were always going to be in a relegation battle. We are light years behind most of the teams on the PL. I don’t care how they WE MUST NOT GO DOWN and if we finish 17th and stop by default MM job done.
THEN WE CAN SEE WHAT 3 M’S ARE MADE OF
Report abuse
Well of course it was always going to be tough and a battle but it would have been nice to have had a few pieces of artiliary in our ranks rather than the bows and arrows which we are using. If MM thinks we are doing well(hardly scoring ,not winning, in the bottom three)then I am afraid he and I will have to disagree.I am just waiting for the excuses to start being trotted out.It was those injuries To Kites,Edwards, Keough etc that did us.As for what the 3MM’s are made of I can tell you now.:NOTHING!! You couldnt make it up
Report abuse
Good point. We were 10 minutes from being mid table, so the season’s far from being over.

Why does henry get a game week in week out? and why is he captain? he is TOTALY OUT HIS DEPTH, and why on earth did ward let that brum player run with the ball to let blues score? WHAT A JOKE!. The missis put the Titanic dvd on last night, and it reminded me of wolves, a sinking ship with a CAPTAIN who could’nt see it coming! For MM birthday yesterday, he should’nt have been given cards or gifts, the only thing he should have been given was his p45!
Don’t blame the cruise line owners, the designers, the crew or the Captain…it was the passenger’s fault the Titanic went down!

we did not think we would be in relagation battle according to the 3 ms

we were told we would not do a sandwell town
and we did not think muppet mick would start playing midfielders in defence
are you any relation to mick seems like it

Is anyone else really getting terribly bored with football.
I have a season ticket (and have done for 15 years) but I just can’t bring myself to watch this stuff any more.
That isn’t a slight against Wolves, it’s football in general I think. This season I’ve seen 6 matches, all at the start of the season and I haven’t been to molineux (despite having a ticket for every game) since November. I really pitty those football fans who waste their money watching wolves/any team home and away every week. Football is starting to die in our household, and I know we’re not alone.
I think there is a danger that eventually you might be right.Especially if the big matches always end in penalties after a ni nil draw.I always think of the World Cup in the States some years back. Two top teams in the World Cup final, Brazil and Italy.Score after 90 mins nil nil, score after extra timenil nil,and both teams missed their first penalties. You could just imagine the yanks watching and saying’ what the hell is this game all about’. That being said supporting the Wolves has not got much to do with football, and more to do with religion substitute. That being said Mr Smug I would have a look at Drogba and Rooney when they pay us a call in the next few weeks.
MM I am more than happy with the players Ive got, says it all doesnt it with him in charge get used to Championship football thats his level.
I’ve said before that I beleive MM/Moxleys lack of transfer activty will seal our fate for relegation, but from the highlights I saw this was a close game where we completed well and were unlucky to lose.
I thought we needed a striker, central defencder and a winger in the transfer window. Ironically the lack of attacking options cost us and I agree with No2. With doyle posing the ONLY goal threat we are really up against it.Putting defenders in forward positions like foley means that when chances fall to them, like yesterday they mess it up. With us needing 5 wins The big question is where are the goals going to come from?
Last week Mad MM said he would be on the Tele to the Irish manager, about how good s ward is, just about sums it up, Ward is a 1st Div player at tops. No wonder no one wants to sign for him, because if you can play a bit of football, Mad MM and co will soon train that out of you.

Didn’t anyone tell them who Kevin Phillips is?!

TAXI for McCARTHY……….
Mr Smug, I know exactly how you feel. I still go home and away but im increasingly starting to get bored lately. I used to love going to the match watching two teams have a right go at each other, now its David v Goliath every week and who cares about the top 5 teams……. lol
Im just an agitated fan I guess.
as soon as i saw philips on the subs bench for brum i new it would be curtains for us. i guess most wolves fans felt the same. he’s just a thorn in our side. so why not put a wolves sub on at the same time who could have played philips out of the game, because the rest of the brummie team didn’t look like scoring against us if they had played all night. they played there trump card and beat us. mick was outwitted by a ginger minger.
Unless we start winning games, especially against the teams in the bottom, we’re done for.
Where to start? Defence is useless. Midfield is useless. Attack (apart from Doyle) is useless.
As we can’t sign any players, we should sign a new manager, who might give a kick up the backside. Mick’s clearly not up to it at this level.
The substitutions changed the game yesterday, Mick got his wrong.
Team for Wed:
A few changes needed to shake things up.
Hahnemann
Stearman
Zubar
Craddock
Mancienne
Jarvis
Castillo
Jones
Milijas
The Hoff
Doyle
Worth a try as it isn’t working with Foley on the right wing and one up front, unless we’re happy with either a draw or a defeat. Neither result is good enough. A win tomorrow or sack him.
Let’s all begin to recognise our predicament as it really is.
MM’s record as a ‘Premiership Manager’ ( Sunderland & Wolves ) is as follows.
P58 W7 D9 L42 Total Points gained = 30
Win ratio 1 every 8 games
Available Points = 174
Points gained per match = 0.52
To reach the magical 40 point target we need to get 19 points in 14 matches, this equals 1.4 points per game
Should this Wolves team gain 2 wins out of 14
( Micks past win ratio) then we only have to draw all of the remaining 12 matches to ALMOST! reach the 40 points
Funnily enough I cannot see this squad of players remaining undefeated the rest of the season, in fact I will be surprised if they remain undefeated for the rest of this week.
The club is more important than Manager, Chief Executive and / or players, we should cut our losses and take steps to ensure a succesful 2010 – 2011 within the Championship,
and more importantly learn by our glaring mistakes that have led us once again facing the certainty of relegation.
Okay so we have a successful 2010/2011 campaign in The Championship and get promoted,so what? If Moxey and MM are still at the club the same thing will happen again.I am afraid if that pair are still here when I come to renew my season ticket it will be a “no” as far as I am concerned. I have had a belly full of all the promises ,spin etc and unless we get a manager who can manage in The Premiership and a CEO who is not too clever for his own good(Warnock’s words summed him up perfectly)I will pick and choose my games next season(and that wont be very many!)
everyone one keeps mentioning our shortcomings, but it was Berra who was meant to be marking Phllips and can not believe people actually rate Craddock, afterall it was Stearman and Mancienne who were the backbone of the championship winning team……..its time for a change at the back and the HELM
