Premier League key for McCarthy
Thursday 4th February 2010, 9:57AM GMT.
Defiant manager Mick McCarthy has insisted Wolves should be judged on their recent Premier League performances and not their FA Cup flop.
The players returned to work today to try to erase the nightmare of Tuesday’s 3-1 Cup exit to Crystal Palace in the countdown to Sunday’s return to League action at Birmingham.
McCarthy believes their recent performances in drawing against Liverpool and Hull are the ‘real’ Wolves, rather than the side that surrendered so shockingly at Selhurst Park.
He said: “Coming back twice from behind on Saturday at Hull shows what we’re about. Everyone is fighting for each other and scrapping for every last drop. The lads deserve to stay in this league for the work they’re putting in.
“If we’d have lost to Liverpool and Hull, it would have made it harder, but we’ve been playing well and playing with confidence. If you’ve got the commitment that we have, you’ve got a chance.
“But we’ve played some decent stuff on the back of it as well, certainly the Liverpool performance was terrific.”
McCarthy faces criticism again for his failure to significantly strengthen his squad in January.
But the manager’s desire to keep Wolves up was all about rewarding the club and the area, not proving his critics wrong.
He said: “It’s not about proving people wrong for me. I just want to do it for the club, for me, for the lads here. The club deserves to be in this league for the way it conducts itself in the Premier League and in the city it’s in.
“That in itself doesn’t keep anyone in the Premier League, but it’s a terrific place and if I stay up on the back of it, then brilliant, but that isn’t to prove anyone wrong.”
While Wolves went out of the Cup, Hull’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea moved the Tigers level on points with Wolves, but behind on goal difference with one more game played.
But McCarthy insisted nothing had really changed.
He added: “Finishing above at least three others, whether it’s 36 or 46 points, is the objective. That will do for me.”

Grand total of 6 points and no wins I honestly cant see us getting 3 points anywhere tough games at home and even ‘easier’ games away Burnley (brilliant at home) and Pompey I don’t fancy us. Our fixtures how MM has the team picked and playing at the mo is scary reading. Discuss!!!

Discuss?
You’re an idiot – that’s all there is to it.
We’ll draw with Everton but lose against Blackburn?
Time for us to kick this negativity into touch and stop the moaning – as far as I’m aware we’re 17th not 20th?
Poor misguided individual.
We will be lucky to make 30 points this season, a record for McCarthy but a failure for Wolves. Which matters most, McCarthy or Wolves?
Happy clapper or realist?
i agree, you are misguided
if you calculate/forcast our final total at our present rate of 0.86956 points per game we’ll finish on 33
THAT’S RELEGATION

you should get down the bookmaker you sad git, at least you then go skint. but i bet you backed us to win at Spurs.

What would you have honestly predicted before the Tottenham away game?
What would you have predicted for Wigan at home to Notts county? We have to stay positive this wolves team has shown they CAN play well and win games.
Just happy clap and chant a mantra. The magic will work for us, I just know that it will!
KEEP THE FAITH!
First time I’ve left a comment but felt I had to respond to N1 wolfs predictions! Are u seriously telling me wolves won’t win another game out of 15 remaining fixtures? Ur deluded mate! We’ve jst had a performance to forget but I don’t believe for one min we won’t record another 3 points!! Talk about doom and gloom! Get behind the wolves boys and keep the faith!
Where do you think we r goin to pick points up from then? No quality no idea no clue NO CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who eva thinks we r goin to stay up is deluded we wouldn’t even make play offs in ccc with this team thank god we dont have to play W.Brom this year cos that would be a disater!
Here we go again with his conflicting comments. “Every one is fighting for each other and scrapping for every last drop”
In that case why did he have to lock his players in the dressing room for an hour and give them a rollocking with a further rollocking on the first day back at training?
Is anyone following this? Strikes me that the Muppet needs a psychiatrist.
Not having an on form ebanks or a prolific scoring player like him is a big factor in this, Villa has the same problem of lame duck Heskey but that is another matter.
An inability to get enough corners is another thing I noticed. Why can’t a winger head for end of the pitch and make a cross in front of goal, at worst it will force a corner off a defender at best someone might tap in an own goal!
Mr Morgan said we are not in the Prem just to avoid the drop mick but thats the way you are talking, You had no money at the Black Cats to spend and you went down, Dave Jones had no money to spend we went down,You had money to spend and could not attract anyone to come to the Mol, That says it all Mick and we will still go down,SAD TO SAY
Report abuse
So informed, sounds like Mick explaining how he had been deceived over the winter window this year. Do you agree?
Lets hope you work your way into a director of football role, then we can bring in a real manager. Cheers
Report abuse
We’ve taken 2 points from our last 5 prem games…if that’s playing well and with confidence then maybe Tuesday wasn’t a surprise.
When Mick says he wants to do it “for the club, for me , for the lads here” I hope he includes the fans in that list.
Yes, it will be the fans who make me proud this season. The same as in 2003.
The fans are Premier League quality, that’s for sure.
Sounds like a drowning man clutching at draws!
Ha ha, I wish I’d thought of that one!
Totally dillusional!

Getting tired of the three M’s excuses, I think they all need a rest, especially Morgan who can go back to scouse land. Premier teams need premier players.
Beat Blues on Sunday and i’ll be happy. Until then shut up about what we have or haven’t achieved this season as that cup game was an embarrassment.
I agree Premiership survival is of prime importance and the FA cup is secondary.
However, why bother playing first team regulars; Henry, Berra, Craddock, Stearman, Mancienne, Milijas, when they are not really that bothered, don’t want to get injured etc.
I went to the game on Tuesday and it was a complete waste of time and money. I would much preferred to see some of the younger players and fringe players playing, knowing they would give their all for the team.
MM knew Palace would be up for the game but obviously did a bad job of getting the Wolves players up for it. You would have thought a mouth watering tie against the Villa, on the box infront of the nation would be enough. Oh well I guess these guys get their pay check at the end of the month so its no big deal to them! ITS A DISGRACE IN MY OPINION AND THESE GUYS NEED TO LOOK AT THEMSELVES IN THE MIRROIR. In fact they should donate some of their wages to a good cause – I AM ASHAMED RIGHT NOW TO BE A WOLVES FAN.
I could not go on Tuesday but I know what a nightmare journey it is. I fully agree with the first half. How many times do we play a weak team, end up having to play a replay and then still play first team players who must get very mixed messages where they must feel – don’t get injured, don’t get suspended but still win the game against a team really up for it. Oh and by the way if we go out that’s OK really becuase we don’t want the extra game, but then I’ll keep you in and shout at you for an hour.
Someone needs to sort out what our approach to the Cup is – for me it’s as important as the league as many of my favourite Wolves games are actually from the Cup. But then I’m in it for the glory not the cash.
Always been the same mate. I have noted this since the 1960′s. We would buy a player scoring freely for his old club but as soon as he came to Molineux his form would dip. I have a theory that the atmosphere at Molineux is too “matey”. If they lose its a case of “ah well – always next week” attitude. I get the impression that if some mega rich person came in and bought the whole of Chelsea and Arsenal playing staff plus reserves, the manager could pick any 11 and within 2 months they would be losing on a regular basis.
In short, the atmosphere engendered is that it is no big deal playing for Wolves. Just a bit of fun and a pay packet. Perhaps when they get into their huddle at kick off time they are deciding whose turn it is to play like a muppet.
are we watching the same football this clown is watching ? so your telling me mick your judgeing the whole season on a few good performances your pathetic THICK MICK OUT!!!
OK Mick lets judge you on our recent premier league performances. Mmmm …. I make that 2 points from the last 5 games!
I would love mick to prove me wrong, but mick you aint good enough. The teams he picks are confusing and tatics are a joke, i thank mick for getting us into the prem but he will take us back there. In this league you need more than hard work. You need players in the right positions, we need to attack teams instead of sitting back and we need a manager who have change the game with good tatics and subs. Mick cannot not do the above, if we go to blues playing we way we have the blues have going to have a field day.
And wolves fans we have got a good enough squad to stay up, we just need the right manager.
Yes finishing 4th from bottom is great Mick, but would you pay out £400 + per season and not get entertainment value and a lack of Non Value for money…You lost the plot at Man Utd and have slowly been going down hill. If you are as much as a man as you make out, do the best for the team and leave with all your backroom staff ( Conner/Mountain/Daley etc) including Moxey and give a manager with ideas a go who will play his best team to win games regardless of the match…There are plenty of good managers out there with nothing on (Hughes & Curbishly to name 2). I feel if you lose against Bham, Morgan will lose faith “hopefully” and make your mind up for you!
I just would like an explanation why he left the training ground 3 or 4 hours before the transfer deadline so that he could go half way up the country to do private television work. This was also just before an important cup match, which was also half down the country, but in the opposite direction. As a matter of principle he should have been seen to be doing everything to sign new players right up to the deadline.UNPROFESSIONSAL behaviour and sending the wrong message to the fans. What would Stan Cullis think ?

Jack ,how many reasons do you want;
just maybe the players might want to speak to their prospective manager before they sign, even at the last minute
to demonstate to the fans solidarity and maximum effort to make a signing
to encourage Moxey to get on with it.
I see you make no comment about only working 3 or 4 hours at the Wolves before filling his coffers by doing television work. What time did he get back from Sunderland the following dayto prepare the team for the cup match. No wonder they looked so poorly prepared. This is an issue of principle.Perhaps you might remember some of Stan Cullis’principles. He was the only England player who refused to give the Hitler salute in Berlin 1938.

Here Here CH!
Well said
Report abuse
He didn’t need to hang around because he was never serious about signing anyone of any real talent and quality, because if he did he’d have signed them well before deadline day. I mentioned David Bentley last week – we could’ve got him a fortnight ago, Redknapp would’ve bit our hand off. But by the time deadline day came around, his rebirth at Spurs had started, so we’d have had no chance.
As for poor preparation of the Cup team, you’re supposing that there was any preparation at all! Judging by the team selections, he did it by picking names out of a hat on his way to the studios.
Oh, and Stan Cullis? His grave must resemble the Saw ride.

What about the fan’s then Mick? They are obviously not worth a mention after fantastic home and AWAY support this season?
Surely you are big enough to offer those that travelled to Palace on Tuesday, an apology??
Mick,
We have been poor in those matches and also in the game at wigan.
When Wolves have possession we don’t have a clue what to do with the ball; stray passes or back to the keeper who blasts it up the field to an isolated striker.
Please Mick, I like what you’ve done for the club and I love your witty quips. But, please, for god’s sake, open your eyes and see that your tactics don’t work.
There’s no fluidity, no creativity and no balance to the team. 2 attack-minded players just isn’t enough.
Come on Mick. You’re a legend, don’t ruin what you’ve done by insisting on such poor tactics every game.
Judging on our premiere league form we have not been much better than Tuesday night.
We took a point from a very poor Liverpool team as you played 6 defenders. And took a point from an even worse hull team who are utter rubbish playing the same way.
You should not be a football manager if you can’t see that Foley is no right winger. And you don’t need to play 1 upfront against poor teams, as how are we going to score?? Draws are not good. Everyone can see 1 upfront is negative, the commentator’s for the palace game, the pundits, the fans. Well everyone apart from you. I know you won’t change because come hell or high water we do it the MM way. Hopefully that will get you the sack.
As for that dodgy Belgium winger you have signed, OMG!!!! Awful does not sum it up, don’t give me the potential cr*p because he has non.
Sorry but the ice cream man who used to managed quarry bank Saturday pub team had more of a clue about tactics than you. Go now, before we are relegated!
Get a grip Mick our recent performances have hardly been convincing!! Hull were much better than us and considering we battered them at ours I would suggest that we are on a steady decline and they are improving….So where does that leave us genius??
I agree with what he is saying and now that I have calmed down after Tuesday all we can do is enjoy the ride and hope we stay up. UTW.

What a load of rubbish,
You want to be judged on recent performances, fine, ill judge you not the team!
You played the wrong team, players out of position and that is your fault entirely!
Resign before you do anymore damage!

The thing that has changed is the fact that the players in MM’s squad look completely out of their depth even playing against Palace
God forbid one injury to Doyle, Jarvis or Hanneman and what options do we have left???
Hennessy seems to have got progressively worse, Vokes cant do it all on his own and we dont appear to want midfield players in the side
Imv I cant see where the next points are coming from as we are seriously struggling to score goals and have wasted time messing about with unrealistic targets like Hunt
Moxey has proven that he is an amateur in the Prem – and MM has found that he cant ‘bully’ talented players with his Sgt Major approach
Any player or prospective employee is going to look at what is best for them in any walk of life and it is pathetic that Moxey and MM try and use the old chestnut of ‘not doing a Leeds’ and claims of not becoming bankrupt etc – For goodness sake – Scott Dann wanted a bit more money – didnt get it and walked – the Palace lad Clyne didnt even want to talk to Wolves – James McCarthy at the last minute went to Wigan – Paul Butler’s comments ‘as long as Wolves have Jez Moxey they will never get anywhere’ What more do we need as proof that Moxey is not cut out at this level to act on behalf of Wolves – as Neil Warnock quipped ‘Jez likes a bargain’
Yes a bargain is one thing – but doing a deal to death is an extreme the club doesnt need and a manager who cannot command respect from better players must leave alot of questions unanswered – Job done Jez – Really???
Time for a change Mr Morgan – take a leaf out of Stoke City’s book and bring in your own CEO and a manager that can cut it in the Prem
Thanks Mick – Im sure there are teams in the Chumpionship that need your services

Dear fans
Thanks for all your support this year, your money has been a great help to me and steve. Sorry about not spending what we said we would. Steve would like to say thanks to jack for selling the club for a tenner, so now when he sells the club he can make abit of profit, which he might put into liverpool a football club he cares about.
Cant wait for next year when all sign up for the early bird, and we can spend as little as possiable. Dont worry about steve going with all your clubs money i will still be here.
yours sincerely
Jez Moxey
P.S when you pay for a ticket and there a fee for ordering the ticket, i own that company.

You forgot to mention that you also own the catering rights at the Golden Palace and every pie bought means more profit for your pension fund.
So glad to see that it is all working out well for you. Should be a record bonus as well after this magnificent profitable season.
Well done again.

Accountant Wolf, There was an article in last week’s Sunday Times about Karen Brady. She stated that at the Blues she did not have a pension fund.I know Moxey has one ,because the club confirmed one year in addition to a bonus an extra lump sum was paid into his pension fund. Interesting isn’t it,we cannot compete with the Bluenoses in the transfer market but we can offer better pension provisions to our Chief Executive.

I think that you will also find that the bonus paid for promotion was also much higher at Wolves, such financial success deserves it’s own reward.
Well deserved Mr Moxey!

OK WORDSELY, YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A CEO IS AND THE REPONSIBILITY THEY HAVE. HE DEFINATELY IS NOT LIKE ANY OTHER EMPLOYEE, ESPECIALLY NOT THE CLEANERS. HE IS THE TOP MAN, OVERSEEING TRANSFERS, FINANCE, POLICY, MARKETING ETC. HE HAPPENS TO BE VERY, VERY, VERY WELL PAID, (PROBABLY AROUND A WHOPPING 100 TIMES MORE THAN A CLEANER) OH, AND HE’S NOT VERY GOOD!!
THAT IS WHY WE ARE HASSLING HIM AND NOT THE CLEANERS – UNDERSTAND? CHECK OUT THE FISHER PRICE GUIDE TO BUSINESS IT’S ABOUT YOUR LEVEL!!!

Wow – looks like you looked up the definition of CEO in the dictionary there.
I’m perfectly well aware what Jez’s job entails and I’m not disputing that he gets well paid for it – even a moron like you can work that out.
But just because you read on here that Jez isn’t very popular, you’ve taken that to mean he’s not very good? Well done for jumping on the anti-Jez bandwagon pillock.
Which part of his job isn’t he very good at fool?
Personally I blame Steve Corica for Palace beating us – your argument makes as much sense loser.
Wordsley–Does your mummy know you are drinking beer you naughty little boy.
Wordsley, I know I will get a lot of abuse back from you ,but here is my opinion where I believe Jez lets us and himself down.Initially let me say he is good at controlling costs and the taxman and fraud squad are not likely to kick down the doors under his stewardship. But he fails in the most important area the purchase of new players. He looks first for the bargain and the impact of th e player on the team seems to be way down the list.Because of the costs involved he clearly makes the decision along with Steve Morgan as to who among the managers targets is signed and who is not.He seems obsessed with value for money rather than the quality of the footballer.I can remember posting in the summer saying they should be prepared to pay over the odds if need be for their no 1 targets. You came back and gave me some verbals, but in the end that is what they tried to to with Hunt but thet left it too late.Furthermore in the afternoon of transfer deadline day they go looking for a full back on the cheap, when everybody knows it is lack of goals that is the real problem. That is the equivalent of the missus saying you want a plumber and you try to bring in an electrican because he is cheaper. We need a Director of Football to help Moxey in this area, and personally I would appoint Laughing Wolf.Best of luck to Mick and the lads on Sunday.

I was wondering if we would have the old ”judge us on the league” comment after the Palace farse!!!
I am a big fan of Mick, but I think he may be digging a big hole for himself saying these things…….
All Wolves fans want to see if ‘whatever’ team is put out on ‘whatever’ game, is the 11 players on the pitch fight for every ball ect… I don’t think 1 of those who played earlier in the week could honestly say that…
Report abuse
Wandering Wolf.
While I’m not a big fan of Mick, he is at this moment still our Manager.
The truth of it all is that since we won the title last season, the 3M’s have been digging a MASSIVE hole for themselves with their comments.
“We won’t do an Albion”
“We will get Prem experience”
The list goes on…
This IMO is what has caused many Wolves fans (including myself) to lose some faith (if not most of it) due to how things have panned out. As is well known, players we went for in the summer eg. Scott Dann would have signed for us for just a little more money in his pocket each week. He wasn’t holding the club to ransom, just a bit more would have secured him, but we said no and he signed for Brum. At that time I was SO angry with our lack of understanding about prospective wages for players in this league.
I do realise that as some will rightly say that signing players on more than our current ones will cause unrest. The thing is I do agree but IF these players help us improve and start getting the other players believing in themselves (SEB for example), then there would undoubtably be win bonuses, goal bonus etc. to top up their wage and keep them happy. Performance related bonuses have ALWAYS been a great way of incouraging better results.
To compound the issue you only have to look at how we fared in this transfer window.
IF you believe what has been said by Moxey regarding our targets, it’s this simple.
At a time when we wanted to get decent quality players on board in the summer we penny pinched. However, in the window just gone money was apparantly no object, so why was it in the summer?
Add to that the amazing decisions being made by Mick of late. Hull away:- we leave our most creative player (Milijas) on the bench but play what was effectively a 4-5-1 formation. That’s a great piece of thinking…NOT.
Against Palace in the cup where points are NOT at stake, HE PLAYS!! I know Dave Jones (player) did will against Liverpool but for me at Hull that’s absolutely unbelievable! The worst decision for me which has been mentioned plenty of times already by other fans is this one.
We play our player of the season at right back in an attacking role!???!! There are MANY more incredibly hard to understand decisions made on players, the list is QUITE LONG as we all know only too well.
This is all starting to feel like deja-vu to me. I’m sure everyone remembers the back end of 2003/4 season where Dave Jones was CONSTANTLY playing players out of position. In his defence as we all knew he wasn’t backed with money for the new players we really needed at the time. Enter Mick, EXACTLY the same things are happening now But we DO have the players if he would only PLAY THEM!!! The well documented point of playing players together as often as possible is such a confidence builder. If you went to your supermarket one week and knew where to find the items you need, you’d be happy. However, if you go the week after and they’d changed them round and do so again next week, I think it would annoy the hell out of you, it would me! This is surely the same situation with our team and performances of late are the result!! We are NOT an established Prem club so why are we using a rotation system when we don’t know our best 11 yet?
I know these points have all been raised plenty of times on here already but they are so INCREDIBLE I thought they were worth another mention.
I’m REALLY trying to keep the faith, but another bad performance on Sunday and if other results go against us, we will be back in the bottom 3. If this happens the low confidence that is affecting our players will hit ROCK BOTTOM!!!
It’s no exaggeration to say that if we DO stay up this season it will be down to sheer luck and the poor play of the teams around us, and not down to Wolves like we want it to be.
Wolves Till I Die.

Sorry that should have read…
Dave Jones (player) did well… not will.

I went to the Liverpool & Hull games and not sure I share Mick’s views of the performances. We could still be playing against Liverpool and not have scored, and Hull, well the own goal threw us a lifeline we did not deserve to that point. I wonder What Mick’s view is of Portsmouth, Hull, Wigan etc… at Home.
well even if Pompey don’t go into administration they are pretty much done.
Burnley can’t stay up if they don’t pick up points away.
So it’s between us, Hull who look to have the easiest run in and look to have uncovered a gem in young Cairney, Bolton who look better with their signings, Wigan who usually go on a few games run to get out of trouble.
The team that looks like they are on a major slide is Sunderland, Bruce doesn’t know who or what tactics to play, they are my darkhorse to go down if they don’t do something soon.
I am confident Mick will turn it around and we should all get behind him and whoever he picks, if we stick with 4-5-1 we will be fine !
Your comments will do for me at the moment Mick but your failure to strengthen the squad with experienced players beggars belief.Don`t tell me they weren`t available because we all know different. It makes you wonder what your commitments and capabilities are.Mr.Morgan said that we aren`t here to make numbers up,lets be honest that`s all we are at the moment. Please don`t let that idiot Moxey interfere with the football side,he too is another one that should go forth and multiply.

The occasional draw earning one point out of three must not be regarded and heralded by the management as a triumph! We need to play to win three points from at least 7 games and from a team that cannot pass accutarely to eah other, in the majority of the game loose the ball, cannot hold the ball, does not support the forwards and the best they do is FOR DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS to make costly mistakes in every game doesn’t auger very well. Change the mentality to a winning one and stop talking the good talk, just perform and prove it on the pitch. PLEASE.
Come on everyone, it is still possible to retain our hard-faught premiership status.

Watch Soccer AM on Saturday and it will ‘Taxi for Gardner’ that was our first goal for nearly 600 minutes in Prem football.
How is that playing well??
Stop trying to con the fans, some of us know what we are watching & if the team is playing well or not.
And believe me there hasn’t anything to get excited about for a while, prior to the last 2 draws in the league we had the debicle that was the Wigan match.
Why don’t you concentrate on getting your team playing some decent football in stead of bleating in the press & trying to get everyone to like you with alleged ‘Northern Charm’

Well after MM’s statement that Doyles performance against Liverpool was one of the best he’d seen from a centre forward I feel I must publicly state that the performance I witnessed on Tuesday night was by far the worst I’ve ever seen from a supposedly ‘Premier’ side against a team from a lower division. It is now a plain fact that Mick’s current side are worse than the team that gained promotion. As for the failure to sign new players during the transfer period I am not surprised, but by far a more derogatory fact is that not one of the Wolves first team squad had to turn down a move elsewhere, due to not a single bid being received. NEED I SAY ANYMORE !

Perhaps MM is still leading the centre half union and forgot he is supposed to be managing a TEAM against Palace
1 Goalkeeper who seems to have forgotten how to command his area, perhaps he is showing us that he doesn’t want to play for MM after the way he’s been treated.
4 Centre Halfs across the back line ??
1 Centre Half in the midfield ??
1 Fullback in midfield ?? who can only pass sideways and backwards, remember he won player of the year, for being a FULL BACK.
Henry was the pick of a bad bunch (sorry, Awful bunch )
Vokes on his own up front,is a joke, long ball to nod on, to who ?? the Serbian captain that has 1 good game in 5 and a Belgian wanabee that can’t control a ball, can’t run, can’t kick, blah blah.
There are BETTER players in the Sunday League who would walk on hot coals to pull on the old gold, MM has made us the laughing stock of the Premier and until Mr Morgan takes the decision we all know he must, we are going nowhere.

These are Championship players with a Championship manager at a club with little ambition and an owner that talks the talk but does not walk the walk. My heart hurts with what is going on at Wolves but it’s fairly obvious that things are not going to change. The one redeeming feature at this hallowed ground is that we have the greatest fans in the world. We deserve more. We deserve an absolute and unreserved apology from the owner, the manager and every single player but we shouldn’t hold our breaths, none of them really give a damn. We are the fans and we care but they don’t. End of. Sorry but there it is. Hopefully, as our Wolverhampton motto says, Out of the Darkness Cometh Light. Lets hope so.

I find it funny that fans expect us to be able to walk over teams like hull and burnley etc. Every team in the prem deserve to be there just as much as wolves and no game is going to be a guarenteed win. (although i agree that the performance against hull wasnt good enough and will not keep us up at the end of the season.)
Even if Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho were in charge we would still be one of the favorites to be relegated since weve just been promoted.
You wont be coming to the molineux until the clown that got us promoted has gone, In all honesty, with your attitude i doubt it will be too much of a loss.
Dont get me wrong, i feel that Mick has made some terrible mistakes , but hes also made some fantastic decisions which without, we wouldnt even be in this league never mind currently out side of the relegation zone. Not sure about your comments
The reason every supporter above is airing their view (which they have every right to do) is down to MM naive tactics.
Forgive me if I am wrong BUT – We have a reserve team. Surely the idea of a reserve team is to play players not yet in the first team in the same formation as the first team play. Then if we get an injury to a player we have a ready made replacement to step in untill that player is fit again.
So why play 6 centre halves in a range of stupid positions that they are all clearly uncomfortable with?
Square pegs in round holes…..play the players in their rightful positions.
MM is now to scared of losing, that will be our downfall.

MM Quote ” Steven Ward is probably the best allround player I have ever signed as a manager” Quickly followed by a new 4 year deal for Neil Collins and then the astute signings of Darren Ward,Stephen Elliot Jason Shackell etc and the declaration that Elliott and Keogh were our number one up front attacking option! I rest my case

But oh dear! oh dear! some of you Wolves fans amaze me. Regardless of what you think or believe and I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, we should be getting behind the lads and MM regardless of whether we agree or not.
If anyone is going to send these players down back into the Championship it is the negativity of some of you fans, and before anyone posts anything that they are season ticket holders and go to the away matches so do I, and although I dont agree with everything that is done, my priority is to get behind the team and not keep getting on their backs and hopefully stay in this division which I think we will do but it will be only just. If you all go back to the beginning of the season everyone was saying it was not going to be easy this season but I am sure some of you were expecting to be up the top area with the big boys.

After having the best young goalkeeping prospect in the championship – WH now looks lost

We should have signed or loaned at least a quality striker as a top priority, it’s looks like we will be back in the Championship again.
We should have at least been able to consolidate our position in the Premier League but we have been let down again.
Hope I am wrong but with Mick in charge no chance!
I don’t belong to the ‘Sack the Muppet’ school. I believe we now all have to stick together with what we’ve got and fight to stay in the Premiership. Sacking the manager would be counterproductive IMO
Desperately disappointed we couldn’t pull in two players that could’ve helped keep us up, I think we aimed too high with Johnson and the Hunt saga became a farce. I appreciate MM has his own ideas of the type and personality of player he wants at the club, but West Ham weren’t being too fussy and obviously decided they weren’t going to hang around the basement regions for much longer. Time will tell who’s right.
Why did Robbie Keane want to go to Celtic ? Even the ‘big two’ are now pitifully poor in a desperate SPL.
In a disgraceful F A Cup performance, it’s difficult to get any positives for what will be a tough match on Sunday.
Milijas. Why do fans keep saying he’d a class act ? He’s slow, rarely tackles back and has now added a new dimension to his game. Stopping still and watching. Even his free kicks and corners have become substandard.
MuJangi. That’s the worst debut (starting) by a Wolves winger since we swopped Alan Hinton for the truly awful Dick le Flem of Notts Forest. I just hope that was a one off, but, nothing he did told me it was.
Vokes. You CANNOT play a striker like him up front on his own. Doyle maybe, he has the ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play. The problem is that MM has said he wants to play this system for the rest of the campaign. We desperately need Keogh/Edwards back if that’s the case.
Hennessey. What is Happening in Waynes’ world ? Is it confidence or coaching ?
Let’s try and be positive. St Andrews is a ground where we’ve done quite well over the years. If he plays Doyle, Jarvis, Jones, Hanahman and Ward and everybody ‘put’s in a shift’ maybe, just maybe we might pull off, what will be viewed as , a surprise.
I’ll be there !

This is serious.
I actually have MORE faith in Mr Brown than Mr McCarthy.
He mentions Hull quite a lot but I have to say they are one of the teams allegedly worst than us.
Would you have backed Wolves to get a point against Chelsea? No nore me, but they did.
I suppose we will have to wait until we are mathematically relegated before MOXEY puts the knife in and sacks McCarthy but he has to take his share of the blame because he does the transfers not McCarthy.
McCarthy will say who he wants, like Brums 2 centre halves and Moxey then negotiates…….. hahahaha
Report abuse
Once it is confirmed that we are going down, Moxey will just state that as McCarthy is a proven Championship manager there is none better to carry on managing the team.
The mistake was not changing managers during the close season, before we wasted so much on inadequate players and found ourselves in this unbearable position.
Looking at another article on the E&S website.
Last week it was Doyle talking about the Hull game and SEB.
Now we’ve got Jarvis saying we can topple the blues.
Of course thats possible, BUT can the players stop talking to the E&S and do their talking on the pitch.
I’m sure this paper talk is becoming counter productive.
By the way – no apology from him on behalf of the players that did take to the Selhurst Park pitch on tuesday, which might have been a more advisable PR route to take.
i wonder if i go to the same matches as McCarthy as i don’t recall our performance against liverpool being terrific.
He sets us up too cautious and that why we’ll struggle to score goals and win matches.
Mick, First of all I feel you do owe the fans who made there way to Palace an apology!
We all know Wolves are better than the pathetic display of football we saw on Tuesday.
In my opinion the players need to keep the ball on the floor and show some control with there passing and not look like they just want rid of the ball at the quickest opportunity.
Get some crosses in and tell the players to not be afraid to have a shot outside the box. We have the talent to score some crackers from long range.
Forget the 4-5-1 formation. Its a defensive formation with hardly any hope of winning the match. DONT GO FOR A DRAW!
I think the squad should be against Birmingham:
Hannemen
Zubar
Craddock
Berra
Elokobi
Kightly (if fit)
if not fit:
Henry
Mancienne
Milijas
Jarvis
Doyle
Maierhofer
Drop Maierhofer back slightly as a holding role to play Doyle in.
Again drop Mancienne back slightly from the midfield.
Shoot outside the box and get as many crosses in the box as possible aiming for the big Austria.
This would be my master plan anyway.
Im sure many of you would disagree with this but its worth a go.

In fact, I hated winning a league for the first time in over 20 years. Let’s face it, its over rated isn’t it ? A little bit of success for a club that’s been starved. Why couldn’t the pain and hunger go on ? why I say, why ?
Who is this clown McCarthy who turned up and changed all of that ? I was getting good value down in the nationwide / Endsliegh / Coca Cola / insert lower league sponsor detail here league. Now I have to watch players that are better than ours, some of them are even world class. It disgusts me. Its a disgrace ! I want my money back !

I for one am sick of all the bleating by McCarthy, Moxey etc to the press about how we tried to sign players. If the current squad’ can’t do the business, give the youngsters a go – Mendez-Laing for one – he would add pace down the right at least.
The academy lads won’t do any worse than many of the first X1 – Hahnneman, Doyle and Jarvo excepted.
The kids can’t do any worse, and they’ll play their hearts out for the fans. Bring one or two of them in; even off the bench.

One of the other incompetent things done by McCarthy is letting the Academy wither on the bough.
Just as we had some more good’uns coming along, we never hear any more about them.
Why?

MM keeps talking about the team showing character and coming back twice against against Hull.
If i remember rightly we only scored once. Was mick watching that match.
Shocking excuses and the typical the league is more important. A good cup run would have done us the world of good.
And for all the happy clappers, on match day we all do get behind the lads. But if we cannot show our opinions on here and how displeased we are with some of the recent no show performances, where can we show them.

Maybe mick got confused and thought we were hull ? haha.

If I was Morgan I would be pretty anoyed with MM(the book stops here as hes told us) he cost the club £500,000 min for the Villa at home game not to mention the fans that spent hard earned money to watch complete dross.
Morgan if youve got a backbone get rid of Job done Moxey and motormouth Mick or we will surely go down both have failed the club and the Fans.
Why should Mr Morgan want to remove either Mr Moxey or Mr McCarthy? They have both performed well, ensuring that we are not bottom of the Premiership and doing it with young and hungry (cheap) players willing to sign for Championship wages.
None of the TV money has been spent, there has been excellent profits from gate receipts and the club shop, and in 6 months time there will be a parachute payment due to WWFC as a demoted team to the Championship.
For his original investment of £10 Mr Morgan stands to make £30-40M over the next few years.

I get the feeling that the fans are actually an inconvenience to Wolves. That’s not a good place to be in a service industry!
Look at the facts, guarded digs at fans through press releases (see above), selling out our home end to arch rivals, insisting on letting home and away fans out at the same time and diverting everyone round the ring road, closing the ring road for boggie coaches, promising us signings galore etc etc.
Ok so some of these decisions are police driven, but do Moxey et al put up much of a fight? Not a chance.
Learn to handle the fans better Wolves, dont forget that a club is a collection of people, ie the fans.
Stop playing players out of position and giving us blarney about shifts and application, when we as fans do know a bit about tactics (admittedly not as much as pro’s) but enough to know that if you play Foley on the right, what does that say about Halford and Surman, and if you play Mancienne in midfield, what does that say about Castilla and Surman and Halford etc? These are your signings Mick, your tactics Mick, and it is not working!

YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING!
The least we can start chanting at McCarthy, without insulting the guys wearing the shirts, even if some of them don’t deserve the respect that we, the fans, give the shirt!

I don’t often post on here, but after Tuesday I really feel that it is time for something to change at Molyneux. Having live in the States for 28 year I’m used to seeing Wolves play only once or twice a year. This season with the wonders of Fox, Setanta, and Fados Irish pub I have seen every game bar two(Bolton & Blackburn). I really thought this was going to be great to see Wolves play every week, but unfortunately it is becoming too painful to watch. Not only are we a really poor team with poor players, but we play really ugly frustrating football. A moment on Tuesday that typified Wolves this season was when Zubar had time to control and play the ball, but instead panicked- kick the ball 25 feet in the air and it landed in our own box. He is not the only player to do this, Ward, Stearman, Berra, Craddock, Henry do it more or less every time they touch the ball. Just terrible- these plays can do better, but what is the manager saying- “poor defending, poor defending, work rate, work rate”. This is all we hear. nothing about only one bloody shot in 90 mins. Not- we created nothing, and played crap football. Week in week out it is all about defending, never the fact that we have score less goals and created less chances than any team in the four divisions. Sorry I was a fan, but McCarthy’s time is up- he is a good manager to get you out of the Championship, but he simply is not Prem standards. He has signed every player (bar Craddock) and he has maybe 3/4 prem standard players. Doyle, Jarvis, Kightly(maybe)& Hahnemann. The rest will get us back up from the Championship but they can’t keep you in the Prem. It is time to go Mick- and bring in someone who will at least try and have the players passing and moving, instead of hoofing and running around like headless chickens.

A good posting from the USA, made even better by not referring to football as soccer!! LOL
As fans we are only consumers, we own nothing.
What we do have is our spending power, and if the owner thinks that we will stop spending then something will be done.
However, if he is in for the quick profits from the TV money and the soon to be received umbrella payments, then he won’t give a damn. Certainly the TV money has not been spent, so I wonder where that is heading?

ATLANTA, I don’t expect you saw the photo of the players celebrating Bert Williams 90th Birthday.
There was with the exception of Bully eleven players, yes “players from all positions” all over the age of 50.
Without exception, with their ability ALL of them would be able to form a team to show the existing team what football is all about.
Get someone to mail the picture to you and you will see what I mean.

Our performances have been quite atrocious for weeks. I feel really bad for Doyle who deserves better – in any other team in the top half of the table he would be scoring freely backed by a creative midfield and an able second striker.
Instead, MM is convinced that we keep playing this one striker formation where the ball rarely touches the ground and too many players are playing in the wrong positions.
I guess MM thinks the fans enjoy sweating out a 0-0 tie playing a really dull boot it up in th air style of play. However, we are getting found out and the games are running out. The gutless displays lately suggest the players are losing faith with MM’s “system”. Our next few home games are not likely to yield many points and Brummy will be a handful this weekend.

All i want on sunday is a performance from the team. I want thim flying into tackles, i want them closing players down like their lives depend on it and i want them shooting from outside the box whenever the chance comes.

We need to win a game Mick not keep drawing all the time, its getting us precisely nowhere. Any news on Andy Keogh? I thought he was not far off the last I heard, we desperately need him back in tandem with Doyle to have half a chance of survival. My worry over Sunday is where will a goal come from, us the lowest scorers in the League against one of the best defences in the country?

Lets not start fighting amongst ourselves ay ?
We all have differnt opinions but put things into perspective here…
NEGATIVES
Manager – goes go about things in an unusaul way (his way), play players out of natural positions and make some funny comments.
Chairman – hard to like, tight as it comes but does his job which is keep the books in order primarily.
Lost to palace – more to the point played as bad as ive seen them play since mcarthy took over
Tranfer window – made me feel “gutted”
Squad – Some players seem out of form, unfit (blakey put you hands up and get fit) ,out of class, not ready yet.
POSITIVES
Future of the club is safe, wont have to worry about the bhatti days as stoke on trent wolf points out !
Debht – we have none. simples. Man U are 700Mil in debht ! one bad season maybe if Fergie retired they might have to sell top asets.
17th in PREMIER ! has anyone noticed that ? thats NOT relegation place.
Our squad might not be quite as stong as our rivals, but also we havn’t seen the best out of kites yet and i think doyle will find his shooting boots soon cos he’s class.
We DO have money to spend ! okay, we didnt spend it but at least its there. There has to be money cos our club is run as a business investment not as a “whos avin it next club” which Pompey unfortuanatly find them selves in.
POINT IS ,GOOD OUT WAYS THE BAD WOLVES FANS

I think it’s depressing that Mick equates ”good performances” with huff and puff, which has been the predominant quality to have characterised our plat this season.
In fact, I feel Wenger’s ‘Anti-Football’ jibe could have been justly aimed at Wolves; scruffy, scrappy, often sleep-inducing. Informed by fear and negativity. In all, thoroughly uninspiring.
Other teams, including ourselves in 2003, have either survived or gone down with their self-esteem and dignity intact- I’m a long way from feeling those emotions watching Wolves so far.

always thought McCarthy has earned the right to a season in the premiership even though i wasn’t sure about his ability to manage players with a ‘personality’. i can accept that the players are not good enough and can accept a yoyo effect for one or two years to develop the team/squad but what i can’t stomach is the abject performances. Liverpool at home was one of the worst games I have ever watched and others were not much better…I’m a simple chap who wants our team to have a go and create a bit of excitement…it’s bad enough trying to stop my lad turning on his psp at games but now i’m at the point of joining him…!

Just a thought. Are their any decent players out there at present out of contract who could come in say and do a job for us and help preserve premier status we all know we should of strengthened the side in the transfer window but could this be a solution there must be a list of players out there. Portsmouth have just signed a centre half on this basis so why cannot we do it. anyway mick please pick your strongest side sunday and players in their right positions and maybe just maybe we could get a result at the blouses

1.we are were we are in the league because the teams around us are just as poor.
2.We do not play at a level that PORTSMOUTH,WEST HAM BURNLEY OR BOLTON PLAY AT.
YES they are in the same situation the former three clubs have had serious distractions in terms of management and other off field issues.
I have watched the the teams and they all have a pattern of play and CREATE chances.
3.EVERYONE says DOYLE as been terrific.
terrific in what?…..CHASING THE BALL!
He as scored 6 GOALS for god sake yet the man is being compared to BULLY,,RICHARDS,,MUTCH ETC.If BULLY was in this team YES this TEAM he would have been in DOUBLE FIGURES for sure.BULLY was a master finisher A legend.
YET micko after the liverpool game talks as if DOYLE had scored a hatrick! When in fact he had one SWIPE at GOAL all game!!!This is MICKOS fault he does not say it as it is…We have not performed all season as a team.YET he see’s great performances!
Micko IS a a good manager in the LOWER leagues but never will be good enough for the prem!

I think the problem we have recruiting is down to McCarthy,he will only recruit yes men and younger players who are too scared to question his tactics.Anybody who shows any kind of opinion will be quickly crushed and sent to train with acadamy players Bothroyd was a good example when he signalled to the bench after he had just scored and within 2minutes was sent down the tunnel.

I’m not Mick’s biggest fan and i’ll admit calling for his head on MANY occasions in the past but i really think management change now would be extremely counter productive, it would really disrupt the squad harmony that currently exists…Mick got us promoted and he has earnt the right as far as i’m concerned to have his season in the Premier Leage…so this might be Hypercritical coming from me but all the negative people commenting need to get behind the team…On the pitch isn’t all physical there’s a lot of psychology going on as well which this negativity can cause some serious damage too…so if you feel you need to have a good moan go ahead…mine’s a balti pie when were in the fizzy pop league next year!!!

We have some quality players in the team but gee the tactics make them so “FRUSTRATING” to watch. Basics football isn’t sustainable in the Prem Mick and even though you say that your team do what it says on the tin I reckon you should throw in a bit of spice and you’ll enhance the flavour!!
Get on with some imaginative flair Mick and give your fans and your players a chance to enjoy what’s left of the season.

Just wish the players would stop talking about how they have a survival plan to the press & just fricking do it on the pitch. Jarvo in the E&S, Henry on Skysports.com have stated they are up for it…..yeah right!!
I’ve said on many posts before this one & that is as a Wolves fan you are always guaranteed one thing thats disappointment…to roll over & die against Crystal Palace is just obscene…..

I understand how you feel but sports journalists earn their living by picking up scraps of information from players and, if asked a question, players generally respond with some remark – which the journalist then builds into a story. Sometimes the reporter squeezes a couple of days “news” out of these so-called revelations. I don’t blame the players. If they refused to speak to the press at all (as has happened with teams if you remember) then all hell would break out on boards like this. If any of our players are invited to suggest that we are “doomed”, do you expect them to say that? Of course they are going to be positive = I’d be worried if they weren’t.

Everyone has their own opinions but the one basic thing this year is we have not actually played any football worth watching. Yes finish 17th every year and the club will be happy because it is now all about money. I would gladly settle for winning the F A Cup and having another couple of away trips in Europe than being nearly bottom of the pile every year. When success is measured by being top of the bottom four we (and Hull etc) might as well be back in the championship, being happy most weeks, having much better away days, and not slagging each other off all the time.
