Deller and Bristow to do battle again

Former World darts champions Keith Deller and Eric Bristow are to do battle again in Wolverhampton – with 14 local players snapping at their heels.
The two famously contested the 1983 World Championship final, where a 23-year-old Deller scored one of the biggest upsets in the sport’s history to become the youngest-ever winner of the competition and the first to do so after coming through the qualifying rounds.
Fast forward 18 years and five-time World champion Bristow will get his chance to exact a measure of revenge against his old adversary, in the grand final of ‘The Legends Challenge’ on May 10 at Rileys Bar, Broad Street, Wolverhampton.
The professionals will also compete against 14 local players to determine the outright winner with a £1,000 prize pot up-for-grabs, after qualifiers to be held over the next 14 weeks to see who will pit their wits against the establishment in the final.
One winner per week goes through but players can re-enter week-to-week, with the events to be held at the ‘Darts Zone’ at Rileys Bar on Monday evenings.
And budding stars have been warned by Deller, one of the fastest rising stars of his time, there will be no going easy on his opponents at the final.
He said: “I have spoken to Eric, we are both really excited about it and I wouldn’t mind getting one over on him again. We may not play many tournaments these days but we can still throw the darts, and I want to win this final.
“We are not going there to mess about, I will be there from 4pm to practice on the day of the final and I won’t be going light on anyone. It’s what will be needed, because there will be some really good local players against me.
“It’s a good set up in this club and I am looking forward to coming.”
