Brunt keen to see Morrison back

Albion winger Chris Brunt believes the return to fitness of close friend James Morrison could give the Baggies some crucial impetus for their promotion challenge.

Morrison is due to return to action in the next few weeks after missing the entire season so far with a heel injury.

And, while the club strive hard to secure more transfer window signings, Brunt believes the former Middlesbrough midfielder could have a similar impact.

Brunt said: “’Mozza’ is a quality player and I think we have missed him a lot this season because he is someone with a bit of experience of last time we went up.

“I think it’s been a frustrating time for him with the injury he has had and the way it’s developed but it was good to see him get back into training at the beginning of last week.

“Hopefully he’s not too far away now and he will give us that added little boost going into the back end of the season.”

Morrison’s lay-off has now stretched into its nine month due to an injury he initially expected to clear up in a matter of weeks.

And Brunt believes the whole Baggies squad has sympathy for one of the stars of last season’s Premier League campaign.

“It’s frustrating for anybody to be injured for any period of time but the type of injury he’s had is worse,” said Brunt.

“It was pretty innocuous at the time but it’s just dragged on.

“You can put a time limit on it when somebody breaks their leg or gets a cruciate injury and that’s probably what’s made it more frustrating for him.

“It’s not classed as such a serious injury but that’s football. You’ve just got to get on with it and to be fair to Mozza he has.

“I’m sure he will be a stronger character when he comes back. He will be itching to get back on the field and hopefully we can benefit from that.”
