Brunt welcomes competition for places

Chris Brunt today urged Albion to press ahead with their bid for Victor Moses – and insisted the current players would welcome new signings.
Brunt believes the Baggies would benefit from an injection of fresh blood even though several of their transfer targets play in his position.
And he reckons the recruitment of Crystal Palace youngster Moses would be exciting for the club.
Brunt said: “He would be a quality signing for anybody. I haven’t seen too much of him and I missed the game when he played.
“But I remember watching it at The Hawthorns at the start of the season and he gave Gianni Zuiverloon and Gonzalo Jara a tough time of it.
“He’s had a lot of press attention recently with Palace’s difficulties but he would be a great addition to any squad and it would show good ambition for our club if we pulled something like that off.
“But it’s going to be tough with amount of press he’s had because that has probably bumped his price up a bit, so Crystal Palace are probably happy about it.”
Albion are attempting to strengthen their squad in the final days of the mid-season transfer window.
And Brunt says the current players are behind the efforts even if it means greater competition for their places.
“If anybody is going to come in and help us to get back up to the Premier League it has to be a boost, especially with the amount of games we’ve got coming up in February and March,” he said.
“It’s a busy schedule. I think it’s the busiest I’ve seen since I started playing and maybe a couple of new faces will boost a few of the lads and maybe give a few people a bit of a rest.
“Sometimes you need a rest with the amount of games we’ve got and with the way the Championship is so physical.
“Last time we got promoted when Tony Mowbray was the manager he mixed and matched and everybody felt fresh so maybe that will happen again.
“Especially in the midfield area when you’re covering a lot of ground and doing a lot of work, maybe it’s good to have some fresh faces and if somebody is looking a bit jaded we can freshen it up a bit.”
