Ebanks-Blake to end Wolves exile
Thursday 28th January 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is set to end his exile from the team immediately for Saturday’s clash at Hull.
The double Championship Golden Boot winner was dropped from the squad for the first time in his Molineux career for Tuesday’s goalless draw against Liverpool, and is still searching for his first goal in open play this season.
But after playing as a lone forward in midweek, strike partner Kevin Doyle believes Ebanks-Blake will be back for the Tigers’ clash as Mick McCarthy’s men seek an end to their 400-minute Premier League drought.
The Republic of Ireland international said: “The managerhas told us everyone is going to be involved with three games in a week, and come Saturday, he’ll be back involved playing.
“Sylvan has played every game since he’s been back so I’m sure he needed a rest as well.”
Wolves will be trying to end their tag as the lowest scorers in the Premier League against the top-flight’s joint leakiest defence on Saturday, with Hull having conceded 46 goals this season.
But Doyle has warned fans had better get used to goals being just as scarce as points in the second-half of the season, as the team fights for survival.
He said: “If we were scoring loads of goals, we wouldn’t be in the position we’re in. There are plenty of other teams lacking goals and that’s how it’s going to be if you’re in the bottom half of the table.
“That record just gives us something to aim for in the second-half of the season. We’re out of the bottom three so we’re doing alright.”
Doyle is hoping for some help up front to break down second bottom Hull.
He said: “I’d hope we could get at Hull more. But having said that, we played 4-4-2 against Wigan here and got beat, so you can’t be complacent in this league because it comes back to bite you and that’s what happened to us.”

Not too sure he should play, he cant hack it in the Premiership!!
I think it should be Doyle/Iwelumo or Doyle/Vokes, maybe even Doyle/Mujangi!!
Hopefully Guedioura will start!!

Big Chris is a big donkey, championship level at best, he needs to be farmed out. Vokes definately an impact player. I think SEB will score on saturday. I might put a cheeky £5 on SEB scoring 1st!
SEB isnt a bad striker overnight, the problem of course is creating chances in our team and you can’t do that if Wolves persist on playing Foley in midfield. We need to carve out chances. Drop Foley to the bench or stick him back at right back and put Zubar on the left. Play this Geoffeey bloke on the wings. And for gawd’s sake Henry pass it forward, you might realise we attack at the oppostion goal.
For goodness sake, this is about SEB not Henry, but seeing as you have mentioned him I feel that I have to reply.
Henry has been one of our best players this season and, I agree, at times he does pass sidewards when there maybe a chance to play it forward, but I would much rather we keep possession than losing it by trying a forward pass. Having said that, he’s not as bad as what you and other people to suggest. When he has the opportunity he DOES pass forward but you’re not going to see him pinging the ball forward 50 yards Gerrardesque.
Big Chris is not a donkey and has scored exactly the same amount of goals from open play as SEB in a lot less games.
Personally I would start with Doyle and Vokes.
blanks should not start, I think other teams will have a mental advantage knowing we have a stiker who hasnt scored in open play and in more than 10 games this season. Ebanks should be on the bench who knows maybe he could be a class super sub? bring him on last 30mins when the other teams are tiring and i’m sure he’ll nick us a few goals and start to look a different player again.
I’m getting fed up of people criticizing Henry, watched the full 90mins of the 0-0 draw on tv and Henry is a class player, he put a great shift in and so did the boys, hes a DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER! I doubt we would be in this league without him and liverpool would have spanked us. Hes wolverhampton born supports the club and am glad hes got the armband. Mark my words he will turn into an even better player if we can just stay up this season.
foley played well against liverpool he tracked back and got foward at times was unlucky at end of the game not to get that vital cross in, reina did come out quick tho.
4-5-1 looks a good tatic for getting draws not sure about wins tho, doyle played mint i agree but still looks stranded upthere on his own, we need some tall creative speedy stiker, Like charlton cole or darren bent type.have we won any headers from playing long ball to the fowards this season? we are poor at winning headers and 50-50s upthere.
We don’t have enough good midfielders to play 4-5-1 and Henry playing like a crab unall.Wingers who can’t put quality balls in the box and what dose Doyle do to assist his strike partner. Then everybody jumps on EBANKS-BLAKE’S BACK.Sometimes I dispair.Don’t think we deserve a striker like S.E.B.
Henrys only fault is that he hangs on to the ball far to long at this level.Even Lampard and Gerrard would struggle in this team because there is never ever any one player in space in front of them.
Sideways or backwards is sometimes the only option with our players at the moment. Take Wednesday for instance Foley and Mancienne both playing out of position, Milijas playing in a different role. Jarvis is fine unless he has to run with the ball or tackle. With Henry mate youre barking up the wrong tree.
I bet Everton put a bid in for him wither in January or in the summer.
Your comment about playing Mancienne out of position.
Can I just ask this?
Would you prefer him at his “natural” position of CB where ANY mistakes by him usually turn out to be costly for us? Personally I’d rather him be played where he is now. As a holding midfielder, I believe that until he bulks up (to play as CB) it is his best position for us. Simply because if he makes a mistake there, he is not the last line of defence and someone else will help him out. This was evident last Tuesday against Liverpool IMO. He does (or seems to) look more comfortable there too.
I do however agree with not playing Foley at right mid. He played ok on Tuesday but, a more natural winger (Jarvis, he can play that flank too) or Mujangi or (once he’s fit) Kightly (obviously the reason we are filling this position in) would IMO be much better there.
If Jarvo did play on the right, due to his two footed ability (like Jarvis), Mujangi (or Hunt if he comes) could play left wing.
Just a thought.
Come On You Wolves.
Well said. SEB is a Championship player at best. Wolves have come up against some of the poorest defences in the Premiership and what has he done? Nothing apart fron one PENALTY.
Tells you something doesn’t it!!
Championship player at best ? Championship top scorer 2 years running u clown – i think he needs to be taken out of the firing line for a while but crikey some of u lot have short memories, shame on you
Report abuse
50-50 on this one- SEB definitely merits our patience and understanding, given his hitherto excellent service to the Club, and as has been pointed out, he’s hardly being helped by our conservative approach.
But the suspicion that he’s out of condition is hard to shake off. I remember Paul Butler training through the close season last time we were promoted, and his diligence paid off as he became one of our better performers in the Prem. Sylvain could also do worse than watch a recording of Doyle’s performance on Tuesday to learn the merits of intelligent movement and workrate.
Wolfy. As you said Championship top scorer. Not Premiership. I think he needs taking out of the total scenario full stop. Nuff said really.
i’d bet my bottom dollar that if we get relegated we could sell henry for between 3 and 5m. i think that would demonstrate his true value to a team as a defensive midfielder.
I would not play him after a one game ‘rest’. He looks overweight and lazy. It will take more than one game to lose a stone and more than that also to get his head right and out of his lazy mood!
Re our striking situation
Middlesbrough have made a £3.5m offer to Celtic for Australia striker Scott McDonald. (The Sun)
I reckon we should have a bit of that, scores oodles of goals in the SPL and in Europe.
Yep i’m having that.
The SPL is just a glorified Championship. The word premier has no link to our Premier league. Just because a player is good it the SPL doesn’t mean he’ll be any good in the EPL.
I really don’t rate the quality of the scottish premier one bit, anthony stokes can score in the scottish prem yet had a nightmare at sunderland.
That said, steven fletcher has done well for burnley since coming south so I suppose it depends on the individual, if we did go for a striker tho, I would much rather see us go for a mobile target man such as beattie, roberts or even kitson, I still think he has a lot to offer given a run in the first team.
Meets all those requirements, whippet quick with a real goal instinct
Report abuse
I agree, but he also has the happy knack of scoring in Europe including superb chip v Man U, not a glorified championship.
Check out his highlights on Youtube
Kenny Miller wasn’t a bad pickup was he?
Good i think he’s been singled out, yes he missed 1 chance against Wigan and the goalie made a good save against Burnley but lets be honest Roony would be scratching round with the amount of chances we are making.
Lets hope we buy a wide midfielder in the last few days of the window, what we should have done at the start, or even 2 would be nice.
This will be a big mistake to bring SEB back we will effectively be playing with 10 men again,SEBs confidence is low and he needs loaning out to a good Championship side to restore his confidence ,its time to give ilwelumo or Vokes a start if SEB had played Tuesday we would have lost.

Time to step up to the plate Mr Ebanks-Blake.

Why do our players do so much talking to the E&S?
And how can it be right that KD is apparently MM’s spokesman.
and how come our line up for saturday is being revealed – especially after MM saying last week he wouldn’t do it.
Or maybe its a bluff and SEB isnt going to play.
the boys played well tues night..why change it? hope this is just an article by e&s to sell the paper as it didnt come from MM.
Completely agree.
I like this 4-5-1 formation as it can turn into an attacking formation in an instant.
It gives the team some stability and the players defend better.
The only problem is it is difficult for Doyle on his own, week in week out.
I also agree, the team played well on Tuesday so don’t change it if all players are fit. I also see that Mancienne will not sign a permanent deal :(
Report abuse
Should stick with the 4 5 1 system for the first half at least
Report abuse
We’ll never get Mancienne permanently because chelsea wont see him we can only have him on loans :(
Report abuse
I would hardly describe being dropped for one game as an exile, though I do think that it would have been better to let him get some form back in the reserves.
I promise I will make no references to the banjo and cow’s posterior! However, it is make or break time for EFiresBlanks…
Report abuse
Here’s another one, keep off S.E.B.s back .o-o draw and everybody is singing from the rooftops.no ones saying Doyles a donkey is there?.
We lost playing 4-4-2 against Wigan because we played incredibly poorly. We also played with a striker shot of confidence (Ebanks) who barely ran and a fantastic right back wasted at right midfield.
We have played incredibly well with a 4-4-2 setup. We now have the players to execute that even better (Mujangi at RW, Vokes or Iwelumo up front), so why not do it?
4-5-1 was pretty abject to watch. The first half particularly. It was effective against a weak Liverpool side to grind out a draw, keep a clean sheet and ensure we avoided 4 straight defeats.
I hate the fact that it was a ‘success’ because it probably points to more of the same.
Doyle played brilliantly but again was wasted – same as he has been all season having only Ebanks-Blake as a strike partner to play off. Ebanks-Blake has contributed very little this season. I hope he improves, but surely his work rate will need to increase before his form does?
I didn’t really enjoy the Liverpool game. It wasn’t entertaining, but if all we wanted was a point, then I guess you can argue it was effective.
david, seb is a diffrent player to doyle he,s a poacher he dosent have to run around like a headless chicken, he needs service and i,m afraid this season we just have,nt serviced our strikers. the last two seasons our strikers have thrived on our wingers but this season with kightly injured and jarvis having to drop to deep to help out the defence there,s been no service to doyle and seb. milias should be given a free role because he has a killer pass but mick would rather him track back and put a shift in, we should leave the donkey work to henry and mancienne.
Exile!
He is given leave to revitalise and reflect; plus do as he will with his banjo. True, jury out on whether he can make it. Leave the guy alone, let the manager make his decisions and at the end of the season make judgements.
I think the point also needs to be made that SEB isn’t the only Wolves player having a few problems adjusting to the step up. Look at other clubs as well – Wigan’s Jason Scotland for one. I back the Wolves to stay up, and SEB to have a far better season next year. He’s shown us what he can do when the chances fall his way – he’s not just become some donkey overnight.
poglatrotts! Let the manager make the decisions!!!!! I think the majority of us fans have seen the decisions this Mr McCarthy makes not just with his signings????? But also his team selections and tactics. Remember Man U. Brum, Wigan, Crystal Palace, and Liverpool to name just a few.
Sunderland all over again. He ain’t got it and neither have the majority of his signings.
Blakes goal scoring record in our last 2 seasons shows that he can score goals in any league. Hes had a few chances this season and hasnt taken them which is a confidence issue and not the fact that he cant make the step up.
He will come good for us, and when he does, it will be like having a new signing. I cant help but think that giving him an extended rest may help him find that goal scoring form again though. I fully expect that when he gets that illusive first goal in open play he and doyle will go on a goal scoring rampage.
It may be an optimistic view, but i remember our last hack at the premier league when henri camara couldnt score in the first half of the season, and then in the second half of the season ended up getting us 7 goals. Its clearly a confidence issue, and getting on his back isnt going to help him score.
He’s been poor and his all round game is just not good enough at this level.
Outside the box, he’s hopeless at retaining possession. Doyle has shown how holding it up should be done and how important it is to take the pressure off our back 4.
No room for him without it weakening us!
what a dreadful headline “Ebanks-Blake to end Wolves exile”. Who is the journalist that used the word exile? An exile is not one game. Have always thought that the E&S has a pro McCarthy agenda and never writes articles which ask probing questions about what is going on
e.g.
1) why are players often played out of position?
2) why are many players who are bought not even tried out?
3) why is it that there is a reluctance to give real chances to players who are not from England,Wales,Scotland and Ireland? Has anyone else noticed this at all?
4) why are different criteria applied to different players when they have bad games
5) does Henry have what it takes to captain our team? Is there a policy to make sure that the captain is not somebody who has a strong mind and personality of their own, able to motivate players and command respect on and off the field
6) Why has Ebanks-Blake been allowed to play for such a long time when he continually underperforms.
Good luck to the lads at Hull and give Vokes a chance with Doyle, he really deserves it.
Wolves don’t lack effort and spirit but the strikers need service that puts the ball in front of them. How disspiriting is it for a striker to receive the ball with his back to goal all the time, and some defender kicking him around the ankles. Only Doyle has the class to turn that ball into the makings of a goal. SEB needs the ball in front of him in a dangerous area, then he’ll hit the target.
No 7 you make a good point why do our players make so many statements to the E&S and on wwfc site,if only they played half as good as they talked we would be in the top 6, the best way of talking is on the pitch. Still dont like Foley wide/midfield best right back in the club sooner see Zubar there as he’s got pace and gets the ball into the danger area quicker
Report abuse
That’s what the media do cover the team (although the E&S seem to cover fantasy and make believe 90% of the time) they can’t snub them can they.
Foley needs dropping back to RB and Zubar is not the answer his positing is shocking for an experienced defender.

CHAMPIONSHIP GOLDEN BOOT WINNER IN 2 CONSECUTIVE SEASONS, AND THE REASON WOLVES ARE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE. DOYLE NEVER MANAGED THAT IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN READING GOT PROMOTED.
SO A BIT OF LOYALTY PLEASE FOR THE BEST STRIKER IN GOLD & BLACK SINCE THE MIGHTY STEVE BULL.
SHOULD WE BE RELEGATED, I WAGER BLAKE WOULD OUT SCORE DOYLE BY 3 TO 1 IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. LIKE KEOGH DOYLE GIVES 110% AND IS QUALITY, BUT HE HARDLY SCORES FOR FUN DOES HE. 1 GOAL AHEAD OF CRADDOCK SAYS IT ALL.
You people make me laugh!
How can you lay into Doyle??? He’s been the best Wolves player since Keane!!! Did you expect him to score 25 goals this season or something? we were in a relegation battle from the start.
Blake ain’t good enough, he’s too basic he hasn’t got that bit extra which is what is needed to succeed in this division. I’m very grateful to him we wouldn’t be here without him but we need to make the change and buy someone (like Roberts) who WILL score in this division!
Unlike a lot of people who post on this site,I do think Mick is a good manager and maybe his comments about Doyle are all about motivation.I think Doyle is a great signing but come on best performance of a centre forward for Wolves at Molineux.I have seen Dougan score against Juventus when they were top of Serie A. I have seen John Richards run Liverpool ragged in 73 when the Reds where top of the league and he scored the winner South Bank end after turning Lloyd inside out. What about Andy Gray’s debut against Man Utd, towering above McQueen the so called best centre half in the counrty. And then at a different level dozens from our Bully. My favorite that hat trick against Fulham. That was the performance that persuaded my son to become a Wolves fan.And it has cost me a fortune ever since. You are good Kevin Doyle, but you have along way to go yet kid.
Sorry for a few typos above.I would also like to know from the powers that be at Wolves, why in a 100 page programme for the Liverpool game there was not one word of mention for the late great Emlyn Hughes,Ex captain of England,Liverpool and Wolves.I can also recall at least 4 good victories against top rank Liverpool sides, yet the only reference in the programme was that awful 6-0 defeat. Is it any wonder Steve Morgan they can’t even make a decent cup of tea.

No mention of the greats JIMMY MURRAY and TED FARMER then.
I think I only saw Ted Farmer once and it was sadly one of his failed comebacks. But he must have been a cracking player given his goalscoring record.First game I went to the Wolves was against Fulham in the early 60s. Jimmy Murray ‘skyed ‘a couple into the South Bank and he got booed for it.Not long after that he was on his way to Man City. So I never saw the best of him either.I think Bertie’s call for Hughie Curran is a good one though.
The trouble with all of our goal scoring options up front is the fact that they always need an extra touch in front of goal, you simply dont have that luxury much in the premier league, we play our best football and score early when we pass it quickly, these days we kick off and hoof it most times, I say pass the ball with speed and accuracy, thats really the only skill an out field player needs, SEB will come good, he’s a goal scorer, he needs to believe in himself more and not give defences too much respect, I have to say though if it’s not going well in a game for him he can be a passenger, S.Ebonks Bloke work harder when you don’t have the ball mate, stop being so caring to the opposition, put them in the net as well, they don’t know your there!!!
SEB may be in a terrible run of form but he is still the best goalscorer we’ve got!Yes Doyle works his socks off but over a season I would still take SEB to be our top goalscorer IF he was given the opportunities-even Torres would struggle in our defensive minded set up at present.Sorry but Vokes may try hard but he aint good enough.SEB needs a goal, any goal, and he will push on with more.I have faith in him even if others don’t!
SEB is twice the player Iwelumo or Vokes will ever be. He is one of the main reasons we are in the premiership. Remember that goal at Charlton – ordinary players don’t score goals like that. Give him a break.

NAIL. HEAD. BANG! :D
Report abuse
Agree, ability is not in question in my eyes,
its his fitness and confidence what raises questions in my opinion.
Just wish vokes or some1 else would of risen to the chance and started banging them in the reserves to make a push.
if seb lost some weight and started chasing after dead balls like doyle did tue then he would create his own chances to score
Report abuse
I would like to see us contnue for a while with the 4-5-1 formation and try to perfect it as an ongoing style.
Yes it can be defensive and negative – or with the right application it can be solid defensively and very exciting going forward on the counter attack.
I think we have 2 strikers that can play the lone role – Doyle and Volkes to hold the ball up and bring midfielders to break with and beyond the lone man.
BUT it does mean having at least two quick players out wide to join the break and not being afraid of shooting and missing.

Ebanks-Blake score hat trick against Hull ! Watch this space!!!!!

Alex Rae’s Butler….. i am not getting into a silly row over who goes the most but for the record i do go regular (season ticket holder). there is no room for sentiment in the premier.
As much as Blake has done for us he clearly isnt upto it just like our manager. i wanted them both to succeed this season big time.
if we are going to stay up we need another striker to partner Doyle and if we do stay up by the skin of our teeth then McCarthy should walk or if not sacked.
You my friend are a tool by giving your support to a striker who has only scored 1 goal which was a penalty and he has played over 20 games
Now Jog on!
Me, the tool ? Nice to see a constructive post ruined by the petty insult.
Good to see that you use the word ‘support’ in your final sentence. Id be interested in hearing your definition of that word, as I have a feeling it will differ greatly to mine.
I think you will find over time SEB will come to the boil. He is a better option to what we got. The problem is the creativity in the side. Karl Henry is a great tackler and breaks up attacking play, but he does not distribute! If he passes towards the strikers rather than sideways or the goalie wolves are ineffective. Also Wolves are too defensive, in approach to games hence we are the lowest goalscorers in the league. But I agree though if we do stay up, Morgan & Moxey must take responsibilty and thank McCarthy for his work and tell him to jog on. Regardless what division we end up, we need a manager who can take Wolves to the next level and we wont be able to achieve that with Mick as manager.
If we do stay up, McCarthy deserves a pay rise you muppet. Consider how little weve spent this season and then tell me that staying in this league even by the skin of our teeth isnt an accomplishment.
As for calling someone a tool for giving a striker support, im pretty sure that the support is coming from the fact that Blakes goals are the reason that were in this league, and he probably knows something about football unlike yourself.
Alex rae’s butler is clearly looking past the goal statistic and has actually watched the matches, as the reason for blakes lack of goals is not because he cant hack it, but because of a lack of confidence. Having watched the lad play most of this season hes clearly capable of scoring many goals in this league and just needs the confidence that he had last season.
Once blake scores in open play and regains his confidence, I can guarentee all of you will see a different player and hopefully his and doyles goals will keep us in this league.
Of course you have to give support to him, IF he puts on a wolves shirt so thats abit of a silly thing to say…
Having said that, i would of stuck him in the reserve weeks back to try get him scoring with no pressure on him again.
But you also have to question that if he keeps getting picked over other strikers i n the reserves then they cant exactly be banggin them in neither can they ?
p.s my cuzin Dean live in rugeley and is a wolves season ticket holder, you not him are you ?? lol
Report abuse
SEB will come good if people stay off his back and support him!
Some people have very short memories and are so fickle!
On Tuesday I think the weak link was Milijas, I forgot he was playing.
Why not play Doyle in that attacking midfield role and SEB up front? That’s if MM does go with 4-5-1 again.
Also, I agree with Foley, he should either be right-back or on the bench. Zubar is not our answer to the right midfield choice.
Perhaps play Jarvis on the right and Jones or Milijas on the left, preferably the former.
Paul, if Milijas was the weak link on tuesday it was because we kept resorting to hoofing the ball up front, 10 yards over his head.
I actually think he had a good game. He was getting some decent challenges in and also when the ball came down from the sky he put some good headed flick ons. Both attributes I would not have considered him having.
You are right on the KF call.
I honestly dont think it’s a lack of ability or that he’s out of his class.
Some of his turns in the championship were of premiership quality, i think it down to 3 things…
1. Fitness ! im sorry ebanks but your over weight, you have always been a stocky player but now your just carrying too much.
2. Confidence, if you start the season with a hatrick i bet ya it wont be long till the next goal goes in. If you go 10 games without scoring after bangin them in before it goin knock his ego simple.
3. Effort, sorry ebanks but i watched doyle and tevez in reacent games chasing after everything like theres 2 of em on the pitch, havnt seen you do that so far which might come down to point number 1, but no excuse, make your own chances if service is poor.
SIMPLES !!!

Alex Rae’s Butler………ok i apologise for the childish remark.but lets get a few things straight. i will always support the wolves and whoever plays will always get my support at the game.
away from the match is when i vent my frustation on manager/players/Tactics etc.
i have never given stick to players while they are playing as this makes no sense. i never even shouted at Robert Taylor, dont know why i thought of him when thinking of crap players but there is a long list.
thinking about last season will do no good on the premier fight this season. i blame mad mick for the mess we are in but hopefully we will fight to the end and stay up.
if we go down then its not the end of the world, its just a football game thats all. but dont let that statement come across as i dont care cus i certainly do.
As we all are, I to am frustated with SEBs lack of goals, but more concerningly his lack of effort and quality at times. Its harder for him being in this league but also having the comparisons made of Kevin Doyle who is by far a much better player. I hope he can get through this, unfortunately he and we dont have time to be loyal to last season.
Also, how far is Keogh away?? he is by far our best option with Doyle, he may not be a prolific scorer but stretches defences all over the place, allowing Doyle the room to do what he does best – Stick the Ball in the Onion Bag!!! Knock Keogh as you may but he could be the answer to our problems up front, he should never been dropped in the first place, for SEB to get back in the team. Maybe now some of you can see that with SEB struggling.
Anyway UTW lets HUNT THE TIGERS DOWN and stretch further away from them.
Mt sentiments exactly, Keogh is a clever player that opens defences with his runs and seems to be judged purely on his lack of scoring ability.
In this league many class finishers may not achieve more than a dozen goals in a season. So Forget any one of our reaching Bullys heady heights.
SEB I believe needs to gian confidence again in the reserves, lose a bit of weight and score some goals.
As the season has progressed he seems more and more rooted to the spot waiting for the ball to be played directly to his feet.
Defenders in this league will just intercept.
Come on SEB you can do it, my 7 year old son still loves you!
And when SEB is back to his best again Id play Keogh behind the front two.

We played well on Tuesday against a top side, why not leave it as it is to start on Saturday. As for Sylvan, the lads on here asking for him to be given time, fair comment but we havnt got time, and its no good saying he will come good,we cant be sure he will come good,it might be he just cant cut it with the big boys, and the problem with Sylvan is when hes not scoring,he doesnt do much else.
I know he is injured at the moment but I would like to see the Hoof given a couple of games.
He has scored at international level and played in the Champions league ( i think!)
He may look a little awkward but I think that may be down to size, a bit like Crouch.
Crouch got terrible stick at Villa before proving himself.
Hoff to win the headers/hold ball up with Doyle running on.
I do believe he is better than Iwelumo or Vokes ( at the moment)
Thoughts?

NO ! NO ! NO !
Let seb gain experience/confidence in the reserves WE CANNOT CARRY ANYONE
Steve Bull helped us to hundreds of goals, and we are forever in his debt, but he would not be able to play now. Should he go in on sentiment ?
You lot who go on that he should be given a go on past achievement are flaming loonies.
Did you not see the improvement against Liverpool. Honestly i feel like the only one not on crazy tabs… i cant believe half of you.

All you so-called fans knocking the man who got us to the Premiership with his goals and are calling for his head should be ashamed of yourselves.
You have not got a clue.
Yet you still sing his name when he has a shot on goal or even misses a sitter.
Two-faced.
Wolvesmod, bit extreme saying people who are arguing SEB shouldn’t play are “calling for his head”. More like they are saying he shouldn’t play in the first team.
The man is paid thousands of pounds a week to:
1. score goals
2. provide a direct attacking threat in partnership with the other forwards
3. hold the ball up for the team to create an attacking opportunity or just let the team get its shape back before the opposition get the ball
4. challenge for the ball when the opposition have got it in his part of the park
On all these counts the evidence is to say he’s failing and something needs to be done.
My personal opinion is that he should be dropped to get a few games in the reserves, hopefully find the back of the net to restore some of his confidence.
For you to have a go at supporters of being two faced when they cheer his name but criticise him here is not really fair. Surely thats one of the things that needs to be done to try to get him through this situation when he does play.
What do you reckon?
I reckon he will score the winner on Saturday and everyone will love him again. You read it here first.

That would be fantastic. I hope you are right. Kickstart his season and do the club a mighty big push forward as well

It does not matter which formation is used, what is needed is for the players to move the ball quickly and accurately with players interchanging postions. At the moment, too many of the team think their job is done when they have kicked the ball.
It is obvious E-Blake is not the same player as last seeson. He is not anticipating , he waits to see where ball is going, that you cannot do in the Premier League, he got away with it last season, so, what are the coaches doig about it? Never mind the three wise men, MM, JM, SM.
MM makes too many changes to have a settled team, if you have the quality to be able to carry out changes, fine , but it is not there.
Maybe he should take a back seat for now, he is trying to hard and he is getting worse.
although he is a quality striker in the championship, he cant quite cut the musterd in the prem, and unfortunaly we are not in the postion to keep sticking with him,Many have come up and struggled in the past, chopra, nugent, johnson.
get another striker in Mick before its too late.

FACT if it wasnt for blake we would have dun wel to scrape playoffs. blake was beta then doyle last season. the only diference is experiance. with that, blake will shine
Report abuse
LOL, I would hardley call being dropped for 1 game an exile.
Truth of the matter is SEB has been pathtic this season, was working hard a few games ago but has lost it completely now. Deffinatly time to give someone else a chance.
Why are we all wasting our time with this utter tripe. If Mr Morgan`s cheque book does`nt come out big time over the next four days then it will take more than Sylvan to save us. Our goal scoring record this season is pathetic and it will cost us unless a quality winger, a quality creative midfielder and above all a quality striker are recruited.
If not then we will at least now the true state of the club`s ambition and then judge them if we are back in the god forsaken fizzy pop league.

I see in the Hull Daily Mail Steven Hunt has been offered an improved contract….ME THINKS HULL MIGHT BE WORRIED HE WANTS TO LEAVE

the only problem with giving someone else ago is they are just as bad.
I’d stick with Doyle up top, with 2 wingers, then 3 across the centre, ie manciene, Milljas, and regretible Henry.

Read on the back of the Express and Star tonight and it says we cant get Roberts because of his wages, hes on 40 grand a week when playing, almost double Wolves top earners. Now I didn’t really want him here it just goes to show how much we are prepared to pay to get prem quality, simply we will not get anyone with prem quality. And everyone who’s debating the Blake thing, he is not a prem player, simple. He got us into this league but imho thats as far as he can go, not knocking the bloke but I seriiously doubt he will make it in the prem. Hull is a must not lose I dont think its a must win game, but I can’t see us scoring and I can see us conceding.

Hull boss Brown has just been on radio 5 – he said he will stand in the way of Wolves signing Hunt. He then said Wolves have upped the bid from 3 mil to 4 mil and he is doing everything he can to keep him as selling would be suicide for his club………..
Hmmmmm think we would have to go to 5 mil to get him to be honest!! Will Moxey go that high though!? or is that it now.
I dont think we will get him DOH!!!!

Not worth 5 million

Agreed if it goes to 5 mil we would be better off casting our eyes to Europe

just because a player is outstanding ccc dont m ean he will cut in prem. blake seems to slow and fat to me .loads of times when attacking he is 15 yards of pace. he never seems sprint but jog

Exile ? Hope he hasn’t had too many locusts and honey whilst he’s been out in the desert !
It’s not just Ebanks-Blakes goal drought, it’s his slow workrate and lack of craft up front that is so poor. I really thought he was on his way back after the Man City match, his work rate, running and link play was so much better. Then came Wigan…..Aaaargh !!
I’d start him against Hull, but if it isn’t working (or HE isn’t working) I’d have him off and not wait ’til the 75th minute either.
I thought Vokes did well v Palace (okay CCC standard) Iwelumo ? Not for me.
Keogh where are you ?
Great team performance on tuesday. One of the tackles of the night (probably ‘cos it was near the end and in our penalty area)? Karl Henry taking the ball off Gerrard’s left peg with Zubar ball watching.
Best CF display at the MOL ? Doyle did well but MM never saw Murray, Farmer, Dougan, Richards,Bull ….and how about Hughie Curran ?
If I’m to be a muppet, can I be Fozzy Bear please.

feel as though the will he wont he sign for us,will be pivotal to our season, push the boat the three M,s. his dad ernie wasnt a bad player

I feel sick reading some of them comments about seb. He is a brilliant stiker and if he had service he would be class.
Everybody keeps sayings about how well we played the other night, dont make me laugh! We worked very hard and make it hard for liverpool, but bottom line that was a poor liverpool side and we dont make chances becauce we play with 6 defenders and 1 holding midfielder.
But i think mick got it right the other night but would like to see us play more attacking players against lesser teams.
And the people havin ago at big chris need to sort they head out. His had no time on the pitch and if given a chance he will score.

SEB’s goal’s helped us get to the premiership?
YES.
So now you want his lack of goals to get us relegated?….I dont!
What he did last year he got well paid for what he is doing this season he is getting paid for!!And mostly this season he as done NOTHING.
So for those who think he should be in the side due to what he did last year should go and find a MUPPET club to follow.
He is the laziest player we have he cant even bother to lose a stone in weight and improve his fitness.Doyle has not scored 15goals his return is only a MEASLEY 6.But why is he receiveing rave reviews? His non stop action play.
So wolves fans are not fickle we appreciate dying for the cause even if the returns are not great as I am sure we would like DOYLE to be on 15 but he is no were near that but he is giving all for the cause…So I am right behind HIM.

A strange headline from E&S -”exile” – he was only missing from the one game for goodness sake. It’s not as if he has been sent away for a few months or more. I agree with an earlier poster, I’d be tempted to use SEB from the bench. But he will score, and very soon I suspect; the drought can’t go on much longer, surely?
Well last season we all would have argued that SEB was a more natural goalscorer than Doyler wouldn’t we? Still I have faith that SEB can contribute and if he does as Mick is keen to put it it will be like a ‘new’ signing. We still need a centre forward though with Beckford perhaps the best option I think he will score goals at this level and most crucially for us would not break the bank. Don’t know if anyone else has heard the news that the only two clubs to bid for Moses have been Forest and the Boggies for ONE POINT FIVE MILLION! If true what the hell are we waiting for?
P.S. About Mancienne being committed to Chelski and not us I know what Bill McGarry would have said to him and the second word would have been off. I know he’s looking the part for us but do we really want a player who does not want to play for us? Stan Cullis would be turning in his grave!
Fight, fight wherever you may be.

There wasn’t a loan system in place when either of them managed, but, I’m sure they would have used it, particularly BM. A number of things have changed since those days, some not for the better, but, I don’t think you can question Mancienne’s commitment or ability (a little loss of form a month ago perhaps).
I think all SEB needs is support from us fans and im sure his time will come when the goals will come and no 1 will be able 2 stop him we just need 2 have faith in him and give him the support he deserves.
Hold on lads, I’ve got a great idea. I read on a message board someone say jokingly that now Spurs have got Eidur Gudjonhsen they might want to loan us Robbie Keane. But hold on this aint as daft as it sounds. If we offered something like £2mil to loan him just till the end of the season, surely they’d consider it. And as for Robbie, he likes Wolves as reported in this paper not so long ago, Matt Murray was his best man, he’s mates with Mick and Doyle from ROI stuff, we’ve got loads of Irish lads and the fans would worship him. If I was Robbie I’d jump at the chance, I mean it’s only a few months aye it!
Doyle and Vokes is the obvious front pairing.Bringing SEB back is a big mistake, we don;t need passengers at this stage of teh season.Lose this, and we are gone.
SEBs game is all about scoring goals, but lets be honest how many chances have we created for him? Not many! Last season we created plenty of chances and he was on hand to put them away. Fair enough he needs to put more of a shift in but he is still learning because this is the first time he has had to work for his chances. He will come good, next oppurtunity he gets I bet he will put it away. No one knocked his work rate last season because he made up for it with his goals. The trouble with our team is we dont create enough. If we did create more chances you would see a difference and I think we would stay up no problem. Hopefully when Kightly is back he can create oppurtunies. When you think of the team we have now and the team we had in 04, our team this time around is much better, the only difference that season was Henri Camara, who had that spark who could take people on and create something out of nothing. If we could find a player like that we would stay up. Keep the faith, up the WOLVES :)
seems to me apart from sebs lack of mobility, pace and self belief the reasons we arnt scoring goals is we hardly ever get past the opposing fullbacks to create chances.for gods sake give it a go !micks signed a guy who APPEARS to have pace and i think geoffrey wouls create another 5 to 10 good opportunities from the touch line for us,so lets get him on before his confidence is eroded by having to sit on the bench week in week out.clearly 5 midfield is the way to go because1. we cant /wont buy a striker 2. midfielders probably cheaper option 3.utilizes our only performing striker.4. sets out to not lose points rather than winning {micks mentality]5.5 in midfield gives the option of pushing down the wing without dreading the space we are leaving behind. micks obviously after another attacking midfielder like hunt ,that sort of player can attack a fullback.it could prove good because if we had had hunt and geoffrey on the wings aginst liverpool i think we would have won.also no complaints with jarvis just needs a bit more belief when attacking and henry is no glenn hoddle, but thats not what hes there for,is it ? think with millijas, the 2 new guys, mancienne and henry that could be a competant midfield.
