Albion closing in on Holland winger

Albion are closing in on a deal to sign Holland winger Andwele Slory from Feyenoord.

The Baggies have agreed a transfer with the Dutch club to sign the 27-year-old who is due in England this afternoon for talks and a possible medical.

Premier League Blackburn were also linked with Slory, but Albion have stolen a march and look set to sign him, subject to agreeing personal terms.

The pacey wide man has scored three times in eight appearances for the Rotterdam outfit this term. Slory, who has two international caps to his name, has been with Feyenoord since the summer of 2008 after playing previously for their neighbours, Excelsior.

He helped Excelsior claim a surprise promotion in 2006 then win a tight battle against relegation from the top-flight a year later, earning himself a move to Feyenoord.

His performances also secured a place on Holland’s 2007 tour of the Far East, making his only international appearances to date in friendlies against South Korea and Thailand.

Slory looks set to become Albion’s second signing of the transfer window, after Gabriel Tamas arrived on loan from Auxerre.

Is anyone any the wiser on this guy?

I’ll freely admit that I know NOTHING about him.

Let’s hope he’s more of a Zuiverloon signing than a MacDonald signing though eh?! :-)

While we’re on, does anyone think that this means Giles Barnes and Victor Moses will NOT be donning the blue and white stripes?

Answer to question 1. Obviously Baggie Paul (Shadrag?) has done extensive research and possibly seen him play a few times.
Like you I’ve never heard of him but then neither had I heard of Dorrans, Koren, Olsson etc, etc.
I think Giles Barnes could still be on depending on proving his fitness. They’re different types of player.
Did anybody really think Moses was on? Nice pipe dream.

Its gone very quiet on Barnes, does anyone know whats going on there? and we never had a chance of signing Moses even at a cut down price. Peace will not back down and pay cash in the Jan market, even if he cost us 3m surely he is worth the money. Its about time we showed some ambition.
As for this new guy, lets trust in RDM and give the guy a chance.

You’re right we’ve never had a chance with Moses but it’s got nothing to do with lack of ambition. I’d love to live in a 4 bed detached in the country, with a swimming pool and tennis court, while driving around in my Ferrari. I have ambition but I don’t have the money to match it.
Moses will go to a PL club.

Not so sure about this one, he has only scored twice all season and is no better than what we have already got.

Got him on the cheap me thinks.

Thanks JTH. Did not read these posts yesterday. Baggie Paul has not been on for months. However he appears again today on Jarrod`s blog. Is it Shadrag? Should I be flattered? Or is he a real baggie who has “been away a while”?

I assume it will be another loan till the end of the season with a view to buy deal, so in reality there isn’t much to lose. Especially with Morrisons current problems meaning it will take a while for him to be properly match fit.

If it works out good, if not we havent lost much.

I still expect to see Barnes at the club, but it again will take time for him to prove his fitness and he will probably be more of a signing for next season rather than this.

It sounds promising about Moses, but i thoroughly expect now our official bid has been made public a whole host of premier teams to come in for him

How Tony Mowbray must be wishing he was back here. Those ‘wonderful supporters’ up there are sharpening the knives.

Not often I agree with Arsene Wenger but I can’t see what M O’N is getting so upset about. Villa are a long ball team. Not as crude as Wimbledon but very like the old Watford albeit with much better players. They have quick wingers and an 8′ 2″ centre forward, missing out the midfield. O’Neill has adopted these tactics wherever he’s gone, nothing to be ashamed of, it’s very effective and they’re very good at it but Barcelona they ain’t.

Another great performance by a PL referee last night to ensure Man Ure got through. Not quite in the Rob Styles class but still very biased. Funny how, after the league game all the referees were explaining that the three minutes extra, extra time was due to a substitution and a goal celebration. Identical circumstances last night resulted in forty seconds being added on. Bent don’t go halfway to covering it

      Your post 100% spot on.

In reference to Rob (apt name) Styles, more than a year on and i still seeth about that game.
His “performance” that night went way way beyond incompetence, no one will convince me that Styles didn`t out and out cheat that night.
What is also amazing, is that there is a refferees assesor at the game, and Styles was not investegated and banned SINE DIE.

I feel the same but I suppose we have to let it go as he’s now been put out to grass. Don’t start the celebrations too soon though as Stuart Atwell looks a ready made replacement.
As you say, it would be interesting to know what the assessors make of performances like that one. What must you do to get a bad report (apart from upsetting Fergie.) I suppose it’s the old pals act

Barnes is a free agent, therefore there’s no hurry to sign him. He’ll need to prove his fitness and I think he’ll be an ‘off-the-bench’ impact player for end of season.

Surely, the question should be: “Who’s Slory now?” I am, with a joke like that, as it’s likely to inspire another blast from Happy_Baggie and co. Slory sounds like a fighter and we need a few more like that.

Mosses will go to either the highest bidder or a Prem club – unless he fancies the Baggies.

What i find interesting about this story is the fact we are being linked with wingers. So far at the club we have Brunt,JT,Morrison, and Tex. I appreciate that if they are good players and available we should look to do something, but what happens when Saturday comes around?
Five wingers only two spots, players of the quality of Morrison when fit will not sit on the bench. I appreciate he can also play a more central role but then agian who do we drop from the current team. Brunt for me has been under par recently but when on form is too good for this division. JT has been arguably our best attacking player this season, so im kind of scratching my head on this one.

If it was Victor Moses coming in i would feel different, he is without doubt a fine player and at 19 could become a ver very good player.

Dont get me wrong i think competition for places is good for the squad and the club, but didnt Mowbray get the hump because JP wanted to trim the size of the squad??

I also think that there are other areas of the team that need strengthening before invetsing in another winger.

Yep im still scratching my head on this one.

Whilst you are right to point out that we have a number of wingers only one of them Thomas has any real pace and when he was injured it showed. I don’t think you can include James Morrison in the equation as wer’e not sure when he will play again. I am sure that RDM and the scouts will have done their homework and it should be noted that the player is coming from one of Hollands biggest clubs and played for his country not long ago so he’s unlikely to be a mug. With regard to Victor Moses the situation has changed since Palace entered administration. The administrator will not be interested in any deal which includes payments being spread over a number of years. The administrator has a legal duty to realise an immediate payment for the player so that he can recompense creditors as quickly as possible so his options , especially with the deadline , are limited. I would not rule out JP pulling this off.

        Robin,

Totally agree re: Victor Moses, the administrator has a duty to maximize realisations for all creditors and will not be interested in cutting any ‘deals’ that involve deferred payments and add on’s for appearances, goals scored, promotion, sell on clauses etc etc.

I think JP could reel this one in which would be massive for everyone associated with the club.

Maybe RDM is planning a Tierry henry style conversion from winger to centre forward ?? I know nothing of the player but 3 goals in 8 games in a decent team from a wide position sounds ok.

Other than that I too am unsure of why we would need him…. but I guess you can’t have too many good players.

      • The Real Bully Hoo.

I agree with all the comments here. Bomber is right about our riches in wide positions but Robin is spot on about our lack of pace without JT, this was especially exposed against Cardiff when we could have played til Christmas and not scored.
More interesting is Robin’s bit about Moses. Combining this with Happy’s point about Slory, I think Moses will end up as a central striker. I’d love it to be with us but it’s one of those too good to be true scenarios.

WBA bomber, Morrison and Teixeira are midfielders.
I hope Slory is a right winger.
Like to see Thomas and Brunt play down the left at sometime. I’m sure Thomas would get the best out of Brunt. Bomber, if players come in Jeremy Peace and Roberto De Mateo will look at the bigger picture and probably some will be moved on. Nothing stays the same old son.

I agree with your sentiments but RDM has always favoured playing genuine wingers, so it doesn’t surprise me that he wants to have a number in the squad (& I wouldn’t include Brunt, Morrison, or Tex in that category), particularly as Thomas and Barnes (if he comes) are both injury prone.

Think of Mesenquez (?) who we had last year – this lad sounds very similar and if he is direct would give us the option that JT provides on the left that Brunt and Tex dont.

Moses would still be a great buy too – but not sure if this signing is good news for Reuban Reid.

1.5M + 500.000 add ons would be just about
the correct price for Victor Moses,in the
past Crystal Palace would easily have got 3M
for him but teams just havnt got the money
anymore,Albion very rarely pay over 2M for a
    player.
The top sides in the Prem may well have that
kind of money but does Victor Moses want to
be sitting on the bench every week,if he
signed for the Baggies he`d play every
week and us fans would absolutly love him.

Just been on the Feyenoord website, and they have him down as a Striker!!! Just watched a few videos of him on you tube!! Looks a decent player, hit a sweet free kick from around 30 yards (top corner). Certainly knows where the back of the net is!!!! Luke Moore should take a few lessons off him!!!

I don’t know a lot about this lad Slory, but our scouting system has unearthed some real gems and this could be another.

I won’t hold my breath on Victor Moses, he’s likely to go to a Premiership club, plus Forest and Newcastle are after him. It would be a real coup if we get him though.

I’ve always said I’ll back the club whoever we go for, the whole transfer set up is first class now.
