Wolves set for fresh Hunt bid

Wolves set for fresh Hunt bid

Wolves will go to the wire to try to snatch winger Stephen Hunt as they prepare a fourth and final bid to tempt Hull.

A third offer for the Republic of Ireland international, believed to be £3.5m plus add-ons, has been knocked back.

Nothing will be completed before Saturday’s clash between the two teams at the KC Stadium given the sensitivities of the game which Hunt is expected to play.

But Wolves are preparing their final pre-deadline pitch in the belief that the 28-year-old wants to come to Molineux and knowing Hull are desperate for funds.

The Tigers have taken Amr Zaki on loan and are being linked with Mido, who is still registered with Middlesbrough.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We haven’t given up on making at least one more signing and will probably make a fourth and final bid for a player we’ve been pursuing throughout January.

“Let’s hope it’s enough to make the transfer happen because we’re fully aware of the need to stay in the Premier League and signing the player would help improve the squad.”

Moxey also insists finances aren’t holding Wolves back after revealing they were prepared to smash their £6.5m transfer record – with highly coveted Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson almost certainly the target.

“We’ve been involved in discussions about a deal which would potentially have seen us break our transfer record,” he said.

“Finance is not the main issue; Steve Morgan has been totally supportive and we’re working within our budget.”

Johnson is out of contract in the summer and is a big admirer of McCarthy.

But he wants to join an established Premier League club and is expected to take his pick from Chelsea and the Manchester clubs to allow Boro compensation as he is under 24 and ineligible for a Bosman.

“We’ve made a number of multi million pound offers for players which have been knocked back,” added Moxey.

“At present clubs aren’t prepared to sell. But there will be no stone left unturned for a further fresh face before the deadline.”

Moxey also confirmed new signing Adlene Guedioura, who made a late debut in last night’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool, will sign a three-year deal if he impresses.

Keep going boys, I do like the style. Put a bid in before Saturday and Hull will ‘rest’ him knowing that he wants the move, he has obviously spoken to Doyler and Hahnemann and wants come.

We are due at Hull and Saturday I fancy us to win 0-2. Henry and Doyle.

If money isn’t an issue there are players that are in reach it doesn’t have to be Johnson or no-one, sounds like BS to me.

    • Jake

The quantity of money isnt the issue, value for money is. Do you want them to pay £5m for a £2m player? Hunt will come after the Hull match.

      • N1 Wolf

No…So what your saying is these are the only two players that are value for money? That we couldn’t possibly find value for money anywhere else, especially if we are able to pay going rates? Hunt may or may not come, he may get a bust leg, they might hump us and he may have a change of heart…who knows. Too much talk this season not enough action and that is a FACT!

        • ean33

where do you draw the line N1..value for money a player that wants to come and a player after a easy pay day…the bottom line is the 3M’s are damned if they do and damned if they dont, they wont pay over the odd’s and they wont buy for the sake of it.they will try and get the right type of player though…FACT..as you put it, so tell me who should they buy who is not over the odd’s and proven with experience while still being able to give the club a good 4 years plus??

Ean that aint my job pal thats what we pay scouts for, but I don’t believe that honestly think that there are no suitable targets out there do you???? Bentleys off to the Hammers apparently, that should put him in our bracket. What about that Alexandre Gai or Leko that we were after in the summer? We turned Leko down cos he wanted £20000 a week….I thought there was no wage issue according to Mr Moxey. Victor Moses is another, Jonas Guiterrez, (?) at Newcastle maybe, Witsel at Liege they are just a few off the top of my head with my limited knowledge, I don’t have the luxury of watching players up and down Europe every day as my job…wish I did.

Imv Chris Eagles would be a far better bet – Burnley and the player know that they dont have the budget to compete – forget Hunt and Johnson – Chris Eagles is the man for the job and probably a far more reasonable salary and price Any thoughts?

It does sound like BS on the Johnson or no-one front but there again Moxey is well known for his spin

All the signs are good on the Hunt chase… Still not sure about the 2 we have signed over the last week though… I honestly though this Month would be the chance we could finally see ‘some’ Premier experience come in… Instead we have signed 2 players on ‘loan’, which makes me think Super mick ain’t 100% sure about them… Whats happened to signing players who can come straight into your squad and make a difference???

I would love Hunt to come, possibly more than johnson as he seems to be a Wolves player (i.e gives everything in every game).

We did superb last night, and think it may well be the way we play for a few more games this year. We need to pick up points at harder teams, and playing 5 in midfield may not set the world on fire, but may well pick up a few more points, and also keping clean sheets there is always a chance of a 1-0 win!!!

C’mon me babies!!! Enjoy the ride.

We needed the Premier experience Jez, I cross my fingers we can stay up. I really thought we would get in 2 or 3 quality players this January. Now we are down to 1 by the looks of it. Im not knocking the 2 from the Beligian club im just saying they were 4th from bottom in their league so it doesnt look great from our point of view. I hope your scouts are right though :)

Hang on – is Hunt REALLY worth nearly £4m? I’ve no qualms over his age, but let’s look at his track record. He’s spent most of his career outside the Prem, and when he was there only once has his team finished higher than 17th. Where did Reading finish? Where are Hull now? I reckon he’s just an over-paid Championship player, and I thought most of our fans had had enough of those? He’s hardly a good luck charm for whatever team he plays for. I’d rather get Bentley on loan from Spurs, where he’s rotting away at the moment, or go all-out for Adam Johnson.

An overpaid championship player who has scored 5 himself this season? He’s a winger, Doyle is a striker and they have scored the same amount. Hmmmm, I think I’d like hime to score another 5 (or more) for us.
Saturday is D-Day for Hunt if you ask me.
If (please) we beat them, he will have a big decision to make. However, if we lose or maybe even draw, then he may decide to stay put.
I was speaking to my mate at work today (Stoke Fan) about this. He said “what if he scores against you on Saturday?” My reply was simple.
If we win and he scores and then signs for us, all will be forgiven surely?
If however, he scores and we lose then I think he may stay anyway. I reckon we’ll know by Sunday myself, maybe sooner.

I’m still saddened by the majority who come and comment here, moaning about the team selection, results and signings.
Let’s face it, in August we would have snatched the proverbial hand to be 4th from bottom come the end of the season… and we are exactly on course for such a successful ending. So why has the emphasis changed and so much negativity appeared?
I’m no “happy clapper”, not even a fan of McCarthy, Moxey or Morgan, but I can see that they have done their level best for the club. We would all prefer players to come to the club who have Premier experience, but why would they want to come to Wolves until we are an established Premier club?? Looking back, we bought in Doyle who is proving to be a class act, but realistically the best we can hope for are players currently playing in the Championship who used to play in the Premier.
I share the frustrations and annoyance of player’s mistakes and gaffes during each game, but when you take the season as a whole we are where we wanted to be last August!
I saw some comments on here recently saying we dont just want to stay up just because there are 3 worse teams in the league than us… I dont understand that logic, surely that is exactly what we want!?!? We have to earn our status and become established, we dont have a God-given right!
Personally I am hoping for more of the same over the next few months and I for one will be celebrating as if we’d won the league if we are still 4th from bottom come the end of the season.
    Up the Wolves!!

I challenge anyone to say MM has not been our most successful manager since JB/RB (challenging the uneducated)lifting the LCUP in 80. That said I am still not fully a Merlin Mick “happy clapper.” He is a good manager who likes players to put shifts in and thats fine I am thinking about whether he can bring players in which is not totally his responsibility (JM & SM /testing again) and move on to the next level with high profile players attitude, pre-madonna status et al. I do believe we can stay up but its staying there that worrys me.

There can be no excuses if we have this money available. There must be some targets we can ger surely? If we have to pay over the odds for a two new players, a winger and a striker so be it.
If we can’t get Hunt then why not Ambrose from Palace who is a good player and has got his career back on track or if we are struggling with the home market what about going abroad and getting someone like Raul Tamaudo who is available and would add some class to our team? Surely our foreign scouts have found some more established players that could come in and make an impact as someone such as Duggary did for Birmingham a couple of seasons ago?
I see Blackburn have just signed and established Turkish international. If we cant get players from our league then go abroad and get quality as other clubs have done!

Does the player want to come (Johnson can negotiate his own lucrative deal in the summer with a top four club apparently…4 months away)

He employed McCarthy, said we’d be in the prem inside three years, and that we’d do it with a squad of players who were young and watend to wear the shirt. So far they’ve kept their word, and for that reason alone, still have my support.

    Clap clap clap clap clap.

    Re our striking situation

Middlesbrough have made a £3.5m offer to Celtic for Australia striker Scott McDonald. (The Sun)

I reckon we should have a bit of that, scores oodles of goals in the SPL and in Europe.

hunt is never going to come to your little club when your heading one way only, and thats down the leagues again and back to were you belong, the old 4th division…your manager is even worse then the tanned one which says a lot. hull city 3 wolves 2 tomorrow, another 3points for the tigers and another zero points for wolves..

Forget Hunt he will not leave Hull City for Wolverhamptn. These stories are way off the mark. But it does make good copy if nothing else. The key to Hull City future is keeping our best players and staying in the PL. Only if we go down does the need to sell come upto the top.

Hunt has over 3 years left on his contract which is far better tan WW can offer anyway.
May i suggest Mido or you can have Peter Halmosi who is also a left winger for 3 million. Enjoy your pointless saturday.
Looks like Burnley in March will be Wolvers next point.
