Star Dorrans’ challenge to Albion

Star man Graham Dorrans has challenged Albion to hunt down Newcastle and Nottingham Forest as the Baggies kick off a crucial phase of their promotion push.

Roberto Di Matteo’s men begin a month that could define their season by taking on Ipswich at Portman Road tonight.

But midfielder Dorrans insists the team are relishing a non-stop spell of matches – and the chance to overhaul the Championship’s top two.

He said: “There are a lot of games this month, but who is to say we won’t go on a run and win every game, push ourselves up there and get in front of Newcastle and Forest?

“We will be preparing and resting up properly, because it is a massive month with a lot of games. We are looking forward to it. There are lots of big games, starting at Ipswich first and foremost.

“That’s as far as we can think ahead and hopefully we can go on a run in this next month in these seven or so games, pick up as many points as we can and try to get up there.”

Dorrans has called on Albion to carry the momentum from their FA Cup defeat of Newcastle into their League programme.

He said: “A good cup run could stand us in good stead for the league so hopefully we can go on a decent run in the cup and the league. We want to climb back up the table and start chasing Forest and Newcastle.

“We know we’ve got a game in hand and hopefully we can push on and get closer to them.”

Dorrans has been a key figure in Albion’s new-look five-man midfield in their last two matches and is relishing the freedom offered by the new system.

He said: “As long as I am playing I’m happy, but the five in midfield means there is a bit of protection in behind you. Youssouf Mulumbu is there and if Robert Koren goes forward I protect him. It’s great.

“I’m enjoying it at the moment and long may it continue.”
