Ipswich 1 Albion 1
Tuesday 26th January 2010, 9:49PM GMT.
A stoppage-time equaliser from Chris Brunt rescued a point for Albion after penalty controversy looked set to condemn them to defeat at Ipswich.
Brunt struck in the 93rd minute to draw the Baggies level, after Grant Leadbitter had converted from the spot on 67.
The Ipswich midfielder capitalised on the hotly-disputed spot-kick, that was awarded against Jonas Olsson for an alleged push on Damien Delaney.
Albion had the better of the game, but the decisive second-half goal looked set to cost them dear.
The Baggies failed to carve out many clear-cut opportunities despite lots of pleasing football, although Roman Bednar failed to make the most of several half-chances.
But defender Gareth McAuley twice had to come to Ipswich’s rescue, first to block a goal-bound strike from Robert Koren and then to clear a Chris Brunt lob from under the crossbar.
With promotions rivals Nottingham Forest and Cardiff chalking up heavy wins, Albion needed to rescue something from the game.
They did so at the death when Ishmael Miller’s shot was blocked, with the deflection dropping for Brunt to finish from close range.

play offs then??

Funny, I seem to remember being about 10 points behind the Dingles a few years ago with only a few games left. Guess what we caught them. I think it still rankles.

2 Baggiessssssss.
As Cyril would say. Thank God we weren’t relying on you when the Hun was at the door. We’d all be speaking German now and wearing leather shorts. This is one game, have a bit more backbone man and rejoice in a point salvaged from a difficult away trip.

Having seen baggiepaul1′s reply I realise that unlike me he has engaged his brain before his typing finger. This is a Shadrag Shenanigan isn’t it and he’s caught me? B******s. Apologies to the real Baggiessssss.

Not to worry TRBH he does catch us off guard once in a while, normally when we have just got up,aye boing boing

Daint think it was gunna come, but credit to the lads for not giving up,ipswich should have been dead n buried before they scored, they sure rode there luck, not sure about pen it was down other end but not one ipswich player appealed,Ish needs to put one of his chances away to build is confidence, relieved with a point in the end,aye boing boing

I’ve watched it numerous times this morning and while it’s difficult to see if Olssen did or didn’t do anything, the ref must have superdooper, X-ray, see round corner vision to have spotted it. But we don’t want to turn into Newcastle whingers, so let’s put it down to experience.
Onwards and upwards.

To all the Scott Carson knockers though ipswich dident create much he made 3 great saves notably the one on one near the end to stop town going 2 up and it being game over, aye boing boing

Morning Tez,
from what I’ve read / heard it seems we had all of the ball, but couldn’t put a chance away, and Carson did indeed make some fantastic saves.
I’ve always stood by Carson (maybe Villa away last season I wavered slightly, but I still had faith in him).
We didn’t lose a match where it seemed it was going to be ‘one of those’ nights, and for that we should be happy with a point.
There’s no denying Forest are absolutely flying and their confidence must be sky high.
Let’s hope that there’s a major bubble bursting when they play their local rivals on Saturday.
We’ve got a tough run of fixtures in the next 4 – 5 weeks, but after that we can really kick on.

Yes Carson was brilliant and what about our eleven man forward line towards the end.we did well to create the chances we did against a team playing with two banks of four at home.Their manager says he was happy with his players and maybe he is,But if I were an Ipswich fan watching them at home I would take some UPPERS to keep me awake.~~~~BOING~~~~BOING~~~~JtH.

On a more sad note Vic one of the elderly fellows that have followed Albion home and away since the war,had a fall coming out of portman road and was taken to the local hospital,im sure we would all like to know that he`s ok and wish him a speedy recovery, aye boing boing

Another day we’d have won that 3-0. Last year after going one down we’d have probably lost it. So overall I’m pleased with the commitment of the players and RDM’s ability to change things, although I think he’s still learning, he seams to be making decisions better and faster since the Forest game. Its also potentially good for us that Forest won, puts pressure on Newcastle. I’m convinced Newcastle will drop points, maybe not tonight against Palace, but after that they’ve got Leicester, Cardiff, Swansea, derby, all capable of taking points. Saturdays a big one with Sheff utd in form but we can do it. We now have the grit and determination to win the battle and give our skill the platform to show through. Plenty to play for.
That’s how it goes sometimes, I guess. Agree that in other seasons we would’ve lost, so a good battling spirit.
I agree too with Brunty, the prawn sandwich mob haven’t quite turned the game into a no-contact sport, so Olsson’s push was something you see week-in-week-out in the box; very soft penalty.

Now Keane states Yonas Olson was leaning on their player, Great after all the hacking and choping he did as a midfielder.Don’t know what his players and fans think of him.~~~~BOING~~~~BOING ~~~~JtH.

The simple fact is Albion are not good enough
for automatic promotion,`dont get me wrong cause some of the football we play can sometimes be as good if not better than Man Utd or Arsenal. If Jeremy Peace thinks we will
win promotion with a half fit Bednar and Miller along with league 1 players Cox and Moore then he`s very much mistaken, our chairman really needs to get the old cheque
book out.

You don’t go to all the home games never mind the away games, so what facts do you base this on?

TRBH – is it possible that DLB is a dingle sleeper agent so deep undercover that he (very) occassionally posts something positive to throw us off the scent ??
I can see no other explanation for his statement “The simple fact is Albion are not good enough for automatic promotion”
Having played the team at the top of the league three times, drawing 2 and winning 1, and having played the team currently in 2nd and shared the points its hard to see where his opinion comes from – unless its well camouflarged shenannigan !!
Bully its the Dingle playing up again me thinks, Look at the spelling Brom does he not spell it as Brum ? Cant find a post to compare it with.
Bully, this can only be Shadrag’s shenanigans, as DLB would always give us his opinion on who should play every match and I cannot see his starting XI anywhere on the above post.
I’m not sure Bully, but I’d go 4-5-1 and here’s my thoughts on the reasons for Dorrans’ opinions:
Baggies websites
Listening to the radio
Irrational dislike of Mattock and Cox
No particular reason
DorransLikesA Moan
A colourful imagination
Speculative guesswork
Selecting a scapegoat
Undermining manager’s decisions
Masterful tactical nouse

I think you may be right and I’m fast becoming Shadrag’s bunny (sorry about the cricket metaphor.) I really want to apologise to DLB but much as I try it keeps sticking in my throat.
Anyway, it was worth it for Warren’s reply. Sheer brilliance. Loved the subs.

DorransLovesBrom I will agree with you about Moore, but not about Cox, he needs to have a chance in the first team if not loan him out.
We have Miller Bednar who for me are not yet fully fit. For me Miller should be the man to lead the attack when fully fit. Remember we also have Morrison to come back soon and he has to be put in and take Brunt out.
Still wondering why Brunt is still in the first team, Very poor corners from him lastnight what a joke why put him on corners if he keeps doing the same thing?
We still need 1 or 2 new players before window closes.

I do actually go to some games but paying
£25 to sit in the freezing cold weather isnt my idea of fun.
Q.DO FANS STILL GET FRISKED BEFORE ENTERING
THE GROUND OR WAS IT JUST A ONE OFF FOR THE
SWANSEA GAME?
RichardBaggiee
I agree Chris Brunt has been poor for some
time now although over the last few games he
does seem to be getting a bit of form back.
Happy Baggie
Can you really see Newcastle and Forest dropping many more points?
Do you honestly think Albion can beat Cardiff
in the playoffs?
This is you again isn’t it Shadrag? If you are going to carry on using DLB’s moniker you will have to remember to put Saturday’s line-up in it.

I read earlier about Forest flying…maybe so but talking to a couple of lads after last nights game they said that they didn’t play that well but everything they hit went in. I’ll tell you something they aint looking forward to this weekend!! We’ll see how good their squad is when they’ve tasted a bit of “hard lines” here & there. ‘Jimmy Kranky’ can waffle on all he likes but once they cross that white line his boys are on their own.
