Villa determined to make two finals

Villa manager Martin O’Neill has warned his team are determined to make it two Wembley finals this season – as they prepared for a potential FA Cup trip to Wolves.
Having seen off Brighton 3-2 on Saturday, the fifth round draw pitted the claret and blues with either Mick McCarthy’s men or Crystal Palace, with the sides facing a replay next week at Selhurst Park following Saturday’s 2-2 draw.
Villa sealed a Wembley date for the first time since 2000 when they beat Blackburn last Wednesday to seal their place in next month’s Carling Cup final and, with Arsenal yesterday joining Manchester United and Liverpool in crashing out of the FA Cup, they now find themselves third favourites in the competition.
O’Neill said: “Can we make two finals? We’re definitely going to try. We’re in the fifth round. Of course you would need the luck of the draw but we will definitely be trying.
“Now that we’ve reached one – lots of things can happen in that time – but if the quality players that we possess here at the football club stay fit there’s no reason why we shouldn’t try.
“Whether we’re good enough or not is another thing.”
The Villa chief would have preferred a home draw and expects a tough test whichever side they meet in the last 16.
He said: “Firstly, we’ve been drawn away from home and, obviously, a home draw would have been preferable. It will be a tight game regardless of which side we end up playing.
“Wolves would present the challenge of it being a local derby while Crystal Palace have just secured a battling draw at Molineux.
“No matter which side makes it through, it will be a really challenging game for us.”
Goals from Nathan Delfouneso, Ashley Young and Man of the Match Fabian Delph were enough for Villa to progress and O’Neill reserved special praise for the summer signing from Leeds.
The manager said: “I thought Fabian did very well indeed. He’s going to be a proper player and that will give him a big boost.
“I think he’s got a really good future ahead of him. When he drives forward with it he can leave players behind which is really great. That’s one of the big assets of his game.
“He took the goal magnificently and I’m really pleased for him.”
