Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Villa dressing room up for the cup

Villa’s dressing room have revealed their determination to emulate their Carling Cup exploits in the FA Cup by reaching Wembley twice this season.
Having beaten Blackburn on Wednesday night to book their place in next month’s League Cup final, Martin O’Neill’s men now turn their attention to the FA Cup with League One Brighton the visitors for tomorrow’s fourth-round clash.
Two of the key figures in that extraordinary 6-4 victory over Rovers, Stephen Warnock and skipper Stiliyan Petrov, have revealed the ecstasy of booking their Wembley place has given them a taste for repeating the feat more often.
Warnock said: “We will look at the game as another chance to get to Wembley and hopefully enjoy another night like this in the semi-final.
“It would be brilliant. It is bringing trophies back to the club that the manager aspires to do and that is what the players want.”
Petrov added: “Why not? When we started out in the Carling Cup nobody really counted on us to be in the final, so you never know.
“It’s a long way and a long shot, but if we can do it in one cup we’ll try to see if we can do it in another one.”
Warnock warns the Seagulls should be “scared” after Villa hammered six past Rovers to go through 7-4 on aggregate – and has refuted suggestions the claret and blues could suffer a hangover from Wednesday’s night of glory.
He added: “I think the lads will be on a high anyway and are looking forward to the games coming up.
“It’s a tough game but we know we have the players capable of beating Brighton, they’ll know they’ll be coming to a tough place where their opponents are full of confidence and they will be scared coming here.
“But we are the Premier League side so they have got nothing to lose and everything to gain and we have everything to lose.”
Petrov admits a comedown is inevitable from midweek, but insists Villa’s players are determined to keep fans in high spirits.
He said: “The fans are going to be less excited, because that was the semi final to progress to a final.
“But the players are going to try to make the fans happy again by trying to score goals and win the game.”
