Man of the Moment James Milner has insisted the best is yet to come from Villa’s Wembley-bound stars.
Milner starred with two goals, as Villa booked their place in next month’s Carling Cup final with an unforgettable 6-4 win over Blackburn on Thursday night.
The England star reckons claret and blues supporters are still to see Martin O’Neill’s team, who take on Brighton in the FA Cup tomorrow, reach their full potential.
He said: “The owner and the manager have done a great job and the club has changed massively since the last time I was here on loan.
“Hopefully we are improving year by year and we can show that in the league but also to get a piece of silverware would be great.
“It would be my first final and that’s the case for a few of the boys. We’ve got there and it is down to us to win it, but there is a lot of football to be played before that as well
“We’ve got a big game in the FA Cup, there are plenty of league games and it is down to us to keep this form going.
“Can it get much better? We’d like to think it can. It is down to us to finish the season well. We know what happened last season.
“We’ve added a lot of strength and quality to the squad and the side. We have learnt from that and now it is down to us to show that.”
Milner has warned of the perils of underestimating Gus Poyet’s League One outfit.
He added: “It will be their cup final and it is down to us to make sure we perform well. We need to match their spirit and their will to win and hopefully the quality will shine through.
“There are going to be a lot of games coming thick and fast and we’ve had three tough ones in six days.”
