Beye could be set for Sunderland

Defender Habib Beye could be heading for the Villa exit door after Sunderland lodged a bid for the defender.

The Express & Star understands Villa are mulling over an offer of around £1.5million for the former Newcastle right-back, who only joined Villa in a £2.5million move from the Magpies in the summer, which was tabled by the Black Cats on Wednesday.

Martin O’Neill will be keen to recoup most of the money shelled out for the 32-year-old last year, but has already revealed he must sell before he can buy in this transfer window

With Beye currently third-choice right-back behind Carlos Cuellar and Luke Young, the Villa manager could be tempted to cash in on the Senegal international.

The player is believed to be frustrated by a lack of first-team football in the Midlands – after just eight appearances this season – and could be offered a regular slot in Steve Bruce’s team.

But O’Neill is expected to dash Newcastle’s hopes of bringing the fit-again Curtis Davies to St James’ Park on loan, with the defender viewed as an important member of the Villa manager’s first-team squad.

Davis needs some games, a short term loan would be perfect.
I know we could get injuries, but Ciaran Clark is more than ready to step in.
