Bednar apologises to Di Matteo

Albion striker Roman Bednar has apologised to boss Roberto Di Matteo for his angry reaction to being substituted at Newcastle.
The Czech striker has been to see the head coach to say sorry for showing his disgust at being replaced after 63 minutes at St James’ Park.
Bednar, who had scored Albion’s second equaliser in the top-of-the-table Championship clash, spoke of his anger after the game but has since patched things up with his boss.
He said: “I have already spoken with the gaffer and apologised, because everybody saw that I was unhappy. I will never smile if am taken off, but I maybe reacted a little bit more than I should have done so I apologised.
“I just felt like I had done well, so I wanted to stay on and win it for us.He took the apology pretty well but he was really upset with me. But it’s gone now.”
Di Matteo confirmed the heart-to-heart with the player and now wants to draw a line under the matter.
He said: “Roman apologised, We had a conversation but we don’t need to go into details.
“We had a conversation, he apologised, and we move on as happy as before.”
Bednar looks set to keep his place for tomorrow’s re-match with Newcastle in the FA Cup at the Hawthorns, with Di Matteo hinting he will resist the temptation to make large-scale changes.
The head coach has considered ringing the changes for the Cup, with his squad facing a hectic programme of league matches in the next six weeks.
But the Baggies boss said: “You do think about changes, but in the past I have changed the team and put a few others in, rested some of the players, and then the game after didn’t exactly go the way I wanted.
“I’m not sure if I’m going to make changes and if I do, I don’t know how many.”

I would rather see a player angry at being subbed than a player who can’t get off the pitch fast enough or is happy to sit on the bench getting his wages.
Bednar has a temper – but many top players do – but I hope he stays fired up and proves RDM wrong next time out.

I bet he wasn’t as angry as the Wolves players who’d backed him as last goalscorer.

Had a great game against Newcastle. RDM should have gone two up front when Miller came on and subbed Brunt. I think we would have won the game defo.

Slightly different slant on it, I’m happy he’s found his form again after all the trials and headlines. When he’s in this mood, NOBODY knocks him around up front. It’s like watching a bull paw the ground just before he charges! And the goal has started to look 8 yards wide again to him.
