Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Villa blogger gets ready for Wembley
Thursday 21st January 2010, 9:10AM GMT.
Villa blogger Dave Bytheway is still on cloud nine after a dramatic semi-final saw the claret and blues book their place in the Carling Cup final.
Que Sera Sera, whatever will be will be…….We’re going to Wembley!
What a night! I’ve just managed to get to my computer and be able to focus enough to attempt this weeks blog, but for the first time in 10 years I can write knowing next month we will be heading down to London for the final of a cup.
Every supporter of every team longs for days like that, it’s what being a football fan is all about.
We went into last night’s game, in my opinion, in no danger at all. The hotels were on hold along with the train tickets. Then after 25 minutes it looked as though we would have to cancel them. For the first half an hour or so we were woeful.
It looked as though the players hadn’t played together before and the nerves were playing a major part. It was only after going two goals behind and listening to the small band of Blackburn fans singing that we actually raised the pace of the game.
From 30 minutes in, we played and we dominated. Every ball was contested and the first came from Stephen Warnock with a neat finish after what looked like a push from Agbonlahor on the right.
The penalty was never in question, nor was the sending off of Christopher Samba, who I thought was causing problems in attack from set pieces as well as strong at the back for Rovers, so it was a relief to see him dismissed. The penalty was expertly taken by man of the moment Jimmy Milner.
It was goals galore in the second-half, to come out 6-4 winners was a great feeling. It was a superb match to be part of, a real entertaining cup tie. I have to say that the fans, both last night at Villa Park and away at Ewood Park on Thursday, were an absolute credit to Aston Villa Football Club.
The scenes at the end of the game reminded me of the semi-final in 1994 against Tranmere, with the masses of claret and blue on the pitch at the end with scenes of pure joy and jubilation. You can never get a better feeling in football. It all seemed kind of unreal. Had we really reached Wembley?
I woke up this morning and by my side was a claret and blue ribbon flag, with Carling Cup semi-final 2010 emblazened along one sash. I picked it up, and waved it in the air – it wasn’t a dream after all!
Up the Villa!

I’m as happy as Larry, Davey Boy!
However, I must pull you up on one point, Christopher Samba! Dave, this guy is a thug in a football shirt and an accident waiting to happen. Remember last Thursday? Gave away a blatant penalty and committed god knows how many aerial assualts on Gabby’s head and neck. He makes Titus Bramble look like Bobby Moore!
And to think, we were actually being linked to him before Dunney and Collins arrived. It don’t bear thinking about!
And I don’t care who we face either! Both Citeh and United are beatable!
