David Winnick, MP for Walsall North, visited the Beacon Primary School in Davis Road last week.

He answered questions from a large group of 10-year-olds gave a short talk on life at Westminster.

Mr Winnick said: "There was tough questioning about my role as a member of parliament and how I divide up my parliamentary day.

"They also asked what ambitions I had as a youngster, what was my favourite food, as well as how I carried out my activities locally, along with many other queries!

"It was a useful exchange, which I enjoyed, as apparently did the pupils.

"I was certainly pleased at the interest the children showed in public affairs. Hopefully they will continue and increase their interest during their secondary schooling."

The group are due to visit Westminster in the coming weeks for a tour of the parliamentary buildings.
