Proposals for the new wooden single-storey block at Phoenix Collegiate, in Clarkes Lane, were this week handed the green light by Sandwell Council planners.

However the council said the development can only remain on the site for two years before it must be brought down.

The council added that due to the wooden facade of the building, aesthetically, it would negatively impact the rest of the school.

A report by the authority said: "The temporary nature of the structure is not considered worthy of permanent retention and would detract from the overall appearance of the new school development."
