Sunny Dhadley was presented with an Award for Excellence from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in the Midlands at the recent CMI Midlands Annual Conference & Awards event at Birmingham's ICC.

Sunny's Service User Involvement Team is a charity (part of Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council) that helps recovering drug addicts.

Sunny's success follows a remarkable personal journey that has seen him win his own struggle with drug addiction, after which he decided to help others.

He applied to become a Chartered Manager – the highest professional status for managers – and passed the assessment in August, 2014, having demonstrated how he adds value to the organisation, innovates and improves its processes, and delivers outstanding leadership.

Sunny Dhadley said: "I'm delighted to have been given this Award by CMI in recognition of my management and leadership abilities.

"At one point in my life I didn't think that anything was achievable. This award has shown me – and others – that everything is."

"As a leader, I'm constantly looking at how we can improve our business – we're taxpayer funded and taxpayers need to know that their money is being spent in the right way.

"The business acumen I have picked up through Chartered Manager has enabled me to make sure that it is. If we perform better it's not only good for our finances, but good for the people we serve and for the community as a whole."

CMI's West Midlands Chair, Phil Ryan, congratulated Sunny on his prize: "Achieving Chartered Manager status is a kitemark that a manager is among the best in the profession, but Sunny's exceptional leadership makes him stand out.

"He is a worthy winner of this CMI Award for Excellence.

"Sunny is clearly committed to using his abilities to make a real impact and making sure his organisation performs at the highest levels to make a real difference for service users in the local area."
