Wolves took an early lead when Nenad Milijas fired into the roof of the City net before Adam Johnson hit back from outside the box.
Four minutes later, it was 3-1 as Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko scored in quick succession.
A Dorus De Vries own goal increased the lead and Dzeko scored a fifth before Jamie O’Hara converted Stephen Ward’s cross.
