Two workers escaped without injury when an electric heater close to the counter of the Local Express store in Coseley sparked a small explosion and fire.

The shop remains shut until further notice but bosses have said that work to get it back up and running 'will take months'.

Plastic bottles and chocolate wrappers melted in the blaze and other stock was completely ruined.

Fire crews were called to the blaze involving the heater and e-cigarettes, at around 5pm on Monday.

Store manager Grisimran Singh Kler, from Willenhall, said: "The shop is completely ruined and will be for a few months. Every single item in the shop is completely ruined – we've got to get rid of it all, replaster, redecorate and do it all up from top to bottom.

"This is my work and without it I have nothing to put on the table at home."

Following an investigation into the fire, the cause was deemed to be 'accidental'.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said the heat from the fire caused the explosion.

Three fire crews arrived at the scene and firefighters used two hoses to extinguish the blaze.
