For Sale: £1.9m family home which had shady past as cannabis farm

A house which was once home to a cannabis farm in a prestigious private neighbourhood has gone up for sale – at a cost of £1.95 million.

The six-bedroom property, which sits on Roman Road, Little Aston Park – an area dubbed Millionares Row – is currently listed on property website Quantrills, with the company dubbing it a 'magnificent family residence'.

However, in March 2010, it was a different story as more than 50 police officers smashed through its wrought iron gates before making their way across the sweeping drive to uncover a cannabis factory inside the property.

The spacious and modern kitchen

The house on the Staffordshire and Walsall border, given the title Tennal House, was secretly rigged up with a network of sophisticated equipment to produce hundreds of cannabis plants inside at least three rooms before police swooped.

During their search of the property police found enough plants to produce nine kilograms of high-strength cannabis and £35,000 in cash.

The illegal operation was kept hidden from neighbours with former England and Wolves manager Graham Taylor and double Laurence Olivier Award winning actor and Waking the Dead star Trevor Eve among those who lived in the area at the time.

But following tip-offs from members of the public, officers burst into the home near the Hardwick Road and Streetly Lane roundabout, before recovering hydroponics and electrical equipment and arrested three people.

The raid was carried out on the same day as seven other drugs busts were undertaken in the Caldmore and Park Hall areas of Walsall back in 2010.

The driveway leads up to the impressive home

In total more than 1,000 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £250,000 were recovered, alongside £50,000 in cash.

Former Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel and ex-Aston Villa defender Ugo Ehiogu are also among the former residents of Millionaires Row.

So is Gabby Agbonlahor. He sold his luxury Georgian-style home for a cool £3.1m.

It came with a large driveway, landscaped gardens and outdoor terrace.

Sweeping staircases featured inside the home alongside all the trappings of the millionaire footballer's lifestyle.

The house is now a far cry from its shady past after going through a refurbishment.

The entrance as featured in the sale brochure

In its listing on Quantrills, staff have written: "A truly outstanding superbly appointed stunning family residence set in landscaped grounds of one acre and occupying a prominent position at the gateway to Little Aston Park."

It adds: "One of the original Little Aston Park residences Tennal House has undergone an extensive yet sympathetic programme of refurbishment and remodelling, blending the many luxury modern living with the arts and crafts influences of the original design."

It contains a reception hall, six bedrooms, four en-suites, an orangery, a study, three garages and a summer house.

Inside, there are new internal doors and joinery, new hardwood double-glazed windows, a new gas fired central and heating system.

There is also underfloor heating to the ground floor and it has been re-plumbed.
