A couple's car has been completely gutted by fire in what the owner believes is an arson attack.

The blue Chevrolet Spark was targeted just after 12am this morning while it was parked on the drive of a home in Trentham Avenue, Willenhall.

Tina Cole, 47, said she had just gone to bed when she heard the blaze on her driveway.

"I just heard the explosions, the room was lit up," she said.

"I looked out of the window and it was just a fireball.

"It set the engine on fire but thankfully the petrol tank didn't go up."

Mrs Cole believes the blaze was started deliberately but thinks her and her partner's home was simply targeted because it is slightly more isolated than their neighbour's properties, rather than it been a personal attack.

"It is heartbreaking," she added: "We have had a lot going on lately, we have had a death in the family and people have been ill.

"This is the last thing we needed."

A crew from Willenhall fire station attended at 12.23am and extinguished the flames in less than an hour leaving the scene around 1.15am.

They posted pictures on their Twitter feed of the blaze in full flow while the car was engulfed in flames.

Alison Newis, a spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire and Rescue, said: "We had a call to attend an incident at 12:23am. A car was alight on a driveway.

"The crew put the fire out, then left the occupants of the house with the police."

West Midlands Police are yet to confirm if it was an arson attack.
