This year followed on from the success of the previous give away, which saw the Express & Star team up with HomeServe to dish out £30,000 across a range of voluntary groups.

Cash prizes, the number of entrants and the sheer amount of tokens collected by members of the public all increased as groups battled to win a share of £35,000 this time around.

Small Wonders won the largest slice of the pot, closely followed by Sandwell Flyers and 2014 winners Willenhall Trinity Bowls.

Other beneficiaries included a cricket club, a youth theatre and a church.

The size of the cash awarded is proportionate to the amount of tokens donated to each group by Express & Star readers.

During a presentation event for the top 20 winning groups at the Banks's Stadium's Savoy Lounge, Express & Star circulation manager Martin White took a moment to explain the reason for starting the Cash For Your Community project.

He said: "We want to try and make a difference.

"I think we have achieved that and hopefully we can do the same next year."
