Car smashes into front of house
Monday 8th February 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
A car smashed into a house in Birmingham in the early hours of today.
Police and fire crews were called to Moor End Lane, Erdington, after the Ford Mondeo careered into the house at 2am.
The driver ploughed through a neighbour’s front garden and into the wall of the Aujla family home on Moor End Lane before fleeing the scene on foot.
Firefighters and police attended the scene and a man was arrested a short time later.
Mother-of-two Rashpal Kaur Aujla, aged 43, said: “We were asleep at about 1.30am when I heard something that sounded like thunder.
“Then my son opened the door to the lounge and saw a car and headlights staring back at him.”
Rashpal’s eldest son, Andip Aujla, 20, was able to get a description of a man fleeing the area and called the police, who responded within five minutes.
Watch Commander Doug Holland from Erdington fire station, said: “I requested a council engineer to look at the safety of the building.”
