After a life in the fast lane greyhounds make excellent pets

Here's a fact of life that you may not be aware of: greyhounds make wonderful pets.

Wolverhampton is lucky, right on its very doorstep, to have a branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust, one of 72 of its kind in the UK.

Managed by Alison Bandurak, and supported by her 'fantastic five' Kennel Team members, the branch re-homes hundreds of retired racing greyhounds every year.

The kennel itself is based in the countryside of Essington and anyone is welcome to come and view the hounds between 10am – 2pm weekdays, and 10am – 1pm weekends.

The branch is very lucky to have a merry band of over 100 volunteers who attend the kennel and help with daily duties and socialisation of the hounds, and also help out on road shows.

Wolverhampton Retired Greyhound Trust is a registered charity (no. 269668) and relies greatly on donations in order to keep the hounds in the manner to which they are accustomed.

As well as receiving lots of gifts of money they welcome old duvets, bedding, towels, food, tombola prizes, and bric-a-brac. Every little helps as it all goes towards paying for expensive vet bills, advertising, and much more.

Lots of hounds have been lucky enough to find homes over the years and one of the main reasons for this is the branch van and trailer. These vehicles have travelled miles to attend roadshows in order to meet the interested public in the hope of some of them going away and thinking of adopting one day.

There is also a fantastic website to browse through (www.rgtwolverhampton.co.uk) which also helps in the rehoming of the branch 'babies'.

If this article has caught your eye and you think you could offer a home to one of these beautiful unique hounds then please contact the kennels on 01922 412212 or email kennels@rgtwolverhampton.co.uk.
