A country walk and a cupcake - it doesn't get much better than that

There's a little secret brewing at the Tettenhall entrance to Smestow Valley.

Just behind the Majestic Wine Warehouse where you may have parked your car before doing the old railway walk, a stunning new cafe is taking shape which comes complete with the warmest welcome this side of Wolverhampton.

A stone's throw from the busy A41 traffic lights, it's a little oasis of calm called the Cupcake Lane cafe.

This brand new cafe opens on Sunday, September 21, (the same day as our own Make It or Bake It market by the way, which means you can make a whole day of it!) with a special party and BBQ, from 12pm-4pm.

"We are going to make red and cream cupcakes (matching much of the decor) to give away to our first 100 visitors on the day, as a big thank you to our first supporters," said Michelle Butler, one-half of Cupcake Lane.

The work that has already gone into the new building, on the council-owned former railway station building and latterly a park rangers office, is extraordinary.

Before it all began, the old station was falling into disrepair

There's a new cupcake cafe inside, with sheltered seating outside, and there's even a small playground for the very young.

It's all the brainchild of Cheslyn Hay friends Michelle Butler and Lorraine Lane, who have a special knack of making you more than welcome at Cupcake Lane.

Neither of the two ladies have a background in running a cafe, Michelle was a family support worker for Walsall Children's Services, and Loraine an advance nurse practitioner in the NHS, but their attention to detail is astonishing.

What they plan to offer at Cupcake Lane Cafe is impressive to say the least.

For individual visitors, there's cupcakes (of course) in as many shapes and sizes as you can imagine - with gluten free too - toasted teacakes, crumpets, crusty bread toast, and of course a nice cup of tea in bone china cups (or a milkshake if you prefer).

The cafe also plans to cater for children's cupcake decorating parties, from £20 per child for under-11's and £25 per head for over-11's, which you can book by emailing contact@cupcakelane.co.uk

The station tea room is also available as a private hire/meeting venue with a difference, for up to ten people with drinks, cakes, afternoon tea on vintage tea sets as part of the package.

Then there are the adult cupcake decorating parties, offering 12 freshly baked cakes to transport home, basic piping skills, use of cutters and moulds to create domed cupcakes with fondant decorations, buttercream and fondant to create beautiful flowers, hot and cold drinks and an apron to wear on the day, all for £35 per person.

All kinds of special items are available to buy at the cafe too, such as a cupcake bouquet from £15, gift wrapped to please!

Cupcake Lane Cafe can be found (and believe us, it's worth finding!) at Smestow Station Building, Meadow View Terrace, Tettenhall, WV6 8NX, and contacted via their new website or by calling 07976 7979 701.
