The little things that make a big difference

One of the Big Issue vendors I chat to is 'Smudge' who sells near to New Street Station in Birmingham.

He had the odd pair of socks off me and, sometimes a bar of chocolate.

One day he saw me coming and shouted: "Ian look here", and showed me a letter the Big Issue had received about him.

It was a lovely letter and he should be justly proud. I told him I would like to share the story with my blog readers and he said he would check with the lady who wrote the letter.

That lady emailed me to share the story and has given me permission to share it with you.

For me it demonstrated how we are all humans first and foremost. Get behind the uniform (in its loosest term) and see the person behind. It also shows that kindness comes in all forms and works both ways.

Here is the story in the lady's own words:

What a great story and please do say hello the next time you pass a Big Issue seller even if you don't want to buy the magazine. They will appreciate your time. You could even 'Support Your Local Vendor' here.
