Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

So this blog was going to be about a different book, one of the best I've ever read actually. But then something happened. That something was me reading the new Harry Potter in a day. And it was something special.

Two massive fears hung over me before buying, and reading the story. The first was that I'd hear some kind of plot spoiler and the second that I'd read it and feel massively disappointed, and I am absolutely delighted to say that neither of those happened. So without any further ado, let's have a look at Harry Potter and The Cursed Child – this is going to be spoiler free, don't worry.

The story itself actually feels really free-flowing and totally unforced, which is obviously ace. I don't think it counts as a spoiler to say that although it is a Harry Potter book, he's not necessarily the main character here. The story is deeply rooted in him, but it revolves more around one of his sons, Albus Severus and the son of Draco Malfoy, Scorpius.

One of the elements which has made Harry Potter so successful is the relatable content, obviously we're not all wizards, but we've all had friendship struggles, love interests and strong family bonds. That relatable element is strong again here; a lot of the story revolves around family and parents quite often not understanding, or being able to relate to, their children.

Naturally that isn't all that's on offer here, this is a truly epic story, one which is comparable in size and scale as the original books. There are characters, locations and items that Potter fans know and probably never thought they would encounter in another, new story from J.K Rowling, but they are woven into this story in delightful detail and to excellent effect.

Some of the scenes are so big that they left me wondering exactly how they would be constructed and shown on stage, a particularly exciting prospect, now that I've read it I'm even more eager to see the play in person – if anyone is reading this who can send me free tickets; DO IT PLEASE.
