Perton is set to have it's very own running club, the brainchild of PCP member, and Perton resident, Peter Smith-Round - so get your trainers at the ready!

It all started with Peter's original post: 'I'm starting a running club in Perton. Can you suggest a name please?! The one with the most likes wins!!! Go!!' And boy, did our members go for it! There were some brilliant suggestions, and lots of banter in between! These included Perton Plodders, Perton Panters, Kool Runnings, and several from one member who was clearly on a roll with a number of suggestions including Your Pace Or Mine, Run Like The Winded, The Young and The Breathless, Sweat, Regret and Oxygen Debt, and Keep Calm and Get A Cramp. However, the deserved winner with the most number of likes was Joan Burton's 'Perton Runways' – a fitting reminder of Perton's links with it's former runway.

If you know Perton, you'll know The Parkway – a perfect running route measuring 3.3km (or just over 2 miles in old money). This is a fantastic initiative for those who want to get fitter, with the added benefit of meeting fellow Pertonians to support and encourage you along the way.

Peter said: "There will be some that want to go further or faster, that's fine. There are also others that want to just go at a pace for recreation so that they can keep fit (for free) and sharpen up for Christmas and the new year."

Interested? 'Perton Runways' started last weekend with a Facebook Group created for those who are interested, so information about the dates and times of runs can be shared.

Today The Parkway...tomorrow the London Marathon? Who knows!
