A person has died after being hit by a train in the Black Country.

Train services were cancelled or delayed while emergency services dealt with the incident at Stourbridge Junction.

The death of the person, whose age and gender is not yet known, is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Stourbridge Junction station at 11.11am this morning following reports a person had been struck by a train.

"Paramedics are also in attendance and sadly a person has been pronounced dead.

"Officers remain on scene and are working to identify the person and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

All train lines were back open by 12.30pm, but cancellations and disruptions were expected to continue until 5pm.

Replacement buses were put on for journeys to Worcester and Solihull, while passengers were able to use Chiltern Railways' services between Birmingham Moor Street and Solihull or Dorridge.

Tickets were also accepted on the West Midland Metro and National Express West Midlands buses.

The incident added to existing disruption between Stourbridge Junction and Birmingham Snow Hill caused by a signalling fault earlier in the morning.
