Motorists were being urged to avoid the area, with the A5 expected to remain closed in both directions at the A34 junction until 9.45pm.

The tanker was removed by crane at 6.30pm and the road was expected to have opened then, however emergency works needed to be carried to the safety barrier meaning the road will remain closed into the night.
